This really isn't anything "NEW". In my previous adult occupation I had the occasion to change tires for a lot of folks broken down along the highway. It is/was one of the services for which we were known. Even as early as the 80's and 90's I was increasingly running into adult college educated males who had absolutely no idea where or if they had a spare tire, much less how to begin changing a tire. Many of those young adults got their first lesson with me instructing and supervising.

My first tire change was in a shady neighborhood - I pulled in by a factory entrance and asked if it was okay if I changed it on the shoulder by the gate. Second flat I had my dad with me on a trip from the hospital to visit my mother after a quadruple bypass and it went flat on the highway and I got off at one of the worst exits in the city and didn't think my Airweight was enough firepower as I drove slowly on the flat until I saw a police station and pulled into the lot. A nice very burly black officer was getting off shift and helped put it on for me, which I don't think I could've done with the tiny lug wrench the factory put in with the jack. I bought a spare breaker bar and socket for this purpose, which also doubles as a club.

My son will demonstrate the proper procedure for changing a tire and the oil before his vehicle leaves the driveway. We're not having any of that bullshit at our house.
