I think that's the cheapest I've ever seen these with a mount. I have a 1-6x24 on an FAL. They are about perfect for a battle rifle in my opinion and look great. Full disclosure though, I don't like the reticle on these very much - but this is so dependent on personal taste I figure it's still worth posting. The reticle is a little busy for my tastes.

Hard to beat for 330. That scope would somehow trigger another build. How's the eye relief for a FAL to sit in front of the rear sight?

That's where I have mounted both LPVOs I have on FALs. And both my FAL test scopes now that I think about it. It works for me. I don't shoot prone much so maybe that's a factor. I think when shooting prone your eye is naturally lower than from a bench.

Next time I go out I'll fiddle around with this and see how natural it is. I never think about it.

Dunno. I bought a couple of decent scopes from a guy who used to hang around here and met him in Houston a few times back in the day when I lived there. We would have lunch on a meet up when I was buying. He was pretty sharp at it and taught me about eye relief. FAL's need scopes with the eye relief of dangerous game because of the fixed stock and limitation of keeping it low and in front of the irons. I have another ARMS #3 and would like to find a decent scope to try out some other FALs I recently bought. My A3 poodle shooters are already scoped.

I keep the bell in front of the rear sight so you don't beat the shite out of it opening and closing the action. Never had a problem. I should post a pic.

If the 1-8x24 Vortex had the simple reticle they put on their top end 1-8x24, I'd buy 3 of these.

good luck finding the AR-BDC3 reticle on Vortex website but I think this is it:

So it's busier than the EBR-8 reticle. I can't read all that shit. Especially when somebody is shooting at me.

I have 3 Vortex Strike Eagles ( 2 8x and 1 6x) and have both reticle types. I also prefer the simpler AR BDC2 reticle. However, I have yet to mount one on an FAL. Will get to it later this spring I hope.

Here is the 1-6x24 I have mounted on my most accurate Imbel/Imbel.

1684204832452.png

She has a long South African stock and a non-bipod cut hgs so she looks long. She is - I can barely reach the trigger shooting prone. The scope is just far enough forward so i can get the rear cover up by twisting it slightly.

Did a little testing. I can't shoot this prone. My neck just won't bend back far enough anymore. I recall the last time I tried, it was wasn't the trigger I couldn't reach, it was the handguards. The scope would be too high to get a comfortable eye box shooting prone. I might be able to use the peep prone but I think it would be uncomfortable.

My limitations prevent me doing a decent assessment of this set up shooting prone.

The CL of the scope is about 0.6 inch above the LOS for the peep sights. The rear bell is about 0.100 in off the picitinny rail. I use more of a jaw weld than a deep cheek weld shooting this off hand or sitting. I lean forward quite a bit. But this feels very natural to me. My eye naturally finds 3.5 inches from glass except when I shoot prone.

Good info here. I like the FAL's iron sights but I have to get my neck all kinds of goosed forward and cocked to the side to use them shooting standing; I think they must sit lower than most rifles do, they're not as intuitive or comfortable as AK or M16 pattern rifles for me but they are objectively better than the former. Do you use the DSA top rail?

I have every brand of top rail sold but that one is a DSA.

I have vortex and Primary Arms optics on my FAL's. It is tough getting the eye relief right so it's good both off hand and prone, but it's always a compromise.

A lot of guys poo poo these as cheap Chinese junk prone to failure . While they are a $300-400 optic, the one on my three gun/run n gun rifle has held up to some abuse and the BDC has allowed me to make consistent hits out to 500 m. It seems to hold zero well, but the 1/4 MOA adjustments can be a unreliable sometimes. A weak point is the throw lever, which breaks easily IMO.

I'm done with cheap optics, though. I'll pay for the better glass. Five times the cost, but way better performance. I've got enough cheap optics on rifles.

I have an early as in "saw it appear on their website and ordered immediately" thus had to wait a bit for it to filter down through distribution chain. At full power depth of field is a bit short but not as bad as a couple of my 1-10x LPVOs. Have shot the scope some but not a lot due to recent health "time out" but even a half dozen trips to the range with it was still not comfortable with the reticle. At 8x ts sharp as can be with good depth of field. Around the house for shooting squirrel, ground hogs and coyote have a dozen rifles out of varying top powers from 10x to 24x and 9 of ten when pick up or post making a kill shot when look at scope shot was taken at 6x.

Everything I am shooting at is usually moving so need some more with in field of view than zooming in to see their fur. On paper usually shoot at top of scopes power range. If had to go out the door into a fight with a rifle topped with one of my 1-6x Strike Eagles (bet I have six or eight) or the 1-8x with its odd reticle would pick up a older 1-6x. I can get on target faster and they just seem more "normal" when moving and firing.
