Totally random question, do you recall the very FIRST thing you ever cooked 100% on your own?

I have debating memories.

Either it was a Grilled Cheese, or Scrambled Eggs.

The only constant, it was definitely an 8" Ol' School Cast Iron skillet.

Still have it.

Any hoot.... for fun & circus, anyone else remember cooking their first meal, (including prep, set up, cooking ,clean up)

I think I was 8. I honestly cannot recall which came first, Scrambled eggs, or the Grilled cheese. But Holy shit was I proud of myself. Turned the stove off & cleaned everything up.

I'm admittedly fond of Nostalgia. Just a random thought. (y)

Pancakes.

My mom made us cook for her and my dad and each other Saturday mornings: both so she wasn't cooking 7 days a week / 3 meals per day AND so we would learn something.

I make some mean pancakes. You think it's easy, but for some reason I get told all the time that my pancakes are the "best pancakes I've ever had...".

Yup, but I only make them when you're really, really hungry.

Same or at least similar backstory.

But, my Pancakes are Epic, but my French Toast is on point.

And Cast iron is greatly underappreciated

I cut my own hair and wifey trims my neckline in back.
I am a former hippy of a sort, though.
Hair down to my ass around 1989...you know, peace, love and understanding.
I'm nearly bald now, lol.
I guess more of a "musician-type" ...

LMAO :ROFLMAO:

Just goof'n off, utilizing a canned reply.

But kudos on such a succinct & detailed rebuttal.

We both enjoy in depth humor (y)😁

Two cans of "this",,,,,,I ate all the beans, and Moose ate all the ham.

Heat source was C4 I believe, or maybe used alcohol out of my aid bag, and gauze, forget which, mess tin, added all the salt we had on us, crushed up some old cracker crumbs we had stored in a plastic bag, and Moose and I split the whole "fresh" crackers with cheese spread.

Delightful! :ROFLMAO:

Cereal.
Maybe toast.
I was 4 and recall mom chastised me because the bread was moldy and I had eaten it unknowingly.
Toasting probably killed mold...

Years back my sister sent a box of homemade cookies for my kid who was coming home on leave. They probably sat on the counter for a week or two before the kid came home. So my kid comes home during the day and I return from work that evening and the box is open and like half the cookies gone. My kid says "you gotta try these, they are great! so I grab a cookie and it is just covered in fine greenish blue fuzz. My kid turned a bit green but never got sick.....

As far as cooking all of us kids had a hand in meal prep from an early age, we were cooking at a fairly young age.

Ate a lot of cheese toast, grilled cheese, and scrambled eggs. Pancakes, etc. During the summer mom would stock up on frozen burger patties, and I would cook them on the natural gas grill we had on the patio. Lived off of baked steak fingers with 57 sauce. You can't find a steak finger worth eating these days

TV dinner, soup or caned chili. Never cooked much, mom would not allow me to "mess" her kitchen. Never did clean up or dishes or laundry. However, my dad learned me how to build the house and kitchen to cook in! Did have to learn to cook and clean between wives though!:)
