Soviet mining trucks in Sweden! The history of these mining trucks begins in 1962, when the state company Svensk Torvförädling AB (STF) purchased two MD-54-4 750 mm track mining trucks from the Kalininsky Excavator Factory. The mining trucks No1034 were sent to Vissmossen for mining operations, and No1033 to Rönneholms-mosse.
The weight of the mining trucks was over 10 tons, which was unusual for the Swedish mining industry.
For most mining operations, a 600 mm track was used, and the locomotives weighed only 1-3 tons.
Over time, the locomotives wore out significantly, and in 1988, it was decided to carry out a major overhaul. At the same time, the frames and bogies were preserved, and the remaining components and units were replaced. The locomotives received Volvo engines and hydraulic transmission boxes.
The superstructure was completely rebuilt with modern comfortable cabins and air conditioners.
Why did STF purchase equipment specifically from the USSR? At that time, the Swedish and Soviet mining industries were actively exchanging experience, so Soviet mining trucks were chosen for work in Sweden. Soviet technologies and equipment were exported and used in other countries, including Sweden, Finland, GDR, Poland, and Czechoslovakia. Later, some Soviet technical solutions and experience became the basis for the development of mining machinery in other countries, especially in Finland.
