So did the tree stand owner get the saw? Looks like a Stihl, everything I've bought for my home and for work that came from the Stihl dealer had the model and serial recorded, for the warranty. Might be able to find the amateur arborist.

The missing bark and fungus on the side of that trunk say that tree has been dead a while. I wouldn’t put a stand in a dead tree.

I think it’s bizarre that happened on public land. Like V Guy, I have destroyed dozens of tree stands and blinds illegally placed on our private property over the years. I even shit in a collapsible blind one time that somebody had set up in some volunteer junipers on our place. Left a big steaming pile inside in the middle of it, slashed it, collapsed it by cutting the fiber glass rods and then, pissed all over it. On one occasion, I actually caught them on the culvert by my front gate. Two guys standing around getting all kitted up making ready to head in. They gave me some bullshit story that I didn’t believe about being on the wrong place. Started out with they had permission from so and so and then, they changed their story about being in the wrong place which I didn’t believe. In 1998, dad and I decided to leave or 26 foot bumper hitch camper out there for a couple days after a hunt because we were going to return. I came back two days later and found two guys in my trailer. They had broken the lock and got in and gave me some bullshit story about so and so didn’t give them the key so they had to break in. They had no clue, I guess, that I was the owner. Tried to tell me they had permission. We don’t give permission so, I want you to just leave all your shit right here for the sheriff and I’ll have him collect up your personal items for return. They wanted to argue with me but, about that time Dad showed up and he was three shades past pissed. He stepped out with his 336 Marlin in his hand. I didn’t draw on them but, I was wearing a .45 on my hip with my thumb hooked on the belt next to it the whole time and they decided to agree about leaving their stuff behind for the sheriff to collect up. Called the sheriff (on dad’s bag phone ) and game warden also was notified. We pressed charges on those guys not only for trespassing but also breaking and entering and destruction of property for cutting a 4 strand drop gate. Wildlife and Parks revoked their hunting license privileges for 10 years and one of the two was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm. Fuck them. Every time I hear that stupid song from the 70s about sign, sign everywhere a sign, I just get pissed. Fuck them too. I pay the taxes and, upkeep and, what wasn’t inherited, I bought & paid for. That’s what gives me the right, stupid bastard’s and I’ll put up all the damn signs I want on our 460 acres to get it through the heads of any and all stupid bastards there might be.
