I've owned both PE90s and a rare 551 law enforcement trade in. I liked them but they weren't really any better than a Galil. The PE90 / 550 is the size and weight of a FAL or G3. The fact that once the rubber dust covers get chewed up and there's no real spares available always bothered me. $150 for a plastic magazine thats still in production is ridiculous. Will Swiss Arms Neuhausen even be around in 10 years? They don't really have any more military contracts for this rifle, and they seem unwilling to export large quantities of these"pistols" to the US.

I've been a Swiss made SIG fan for a long time. To me, the craftsmanship that goes into every single one is nothing short of astounding. I have a lot of firearms that I really enjoy but there is something special about a Swiss made one. It's like you're holding an heirloom Quality item. That alone is worth the price to me. My 551LB's are simply exquisite:

Well, almost.

My StG58 weighs 10 3/4 lbs. (just put it on the wife's food scale...).

My 550 is 4" shorter and 2 lbs. lighter (8 3/4 lbs.) than the FALs I've got.

Definitely the 550 is not short enough, light enough, or handy enough to take the place of the AR-15.

You must have the newer alloy lower on your 550 and the bipod installed on your STG58...my PE90 with the sheet metal lower was 9lbs dry and empty

I think it's a steel lower, but I'll admit I'm not positive.

Yes on StG bipod - good call.

I bought the 553P about 10 years ago. At the time, Sig had a $200 rebate on pistols and it qualified. It took 10 months to get the SBR stamp… but it was worth the wait.
You used to be able to get replacement rubber from Estes Adams years ago.
Up until a few years ago I would order magazines from the gun factory.

I just checked the gun factory site, looks like they carry those rubber pieces also. F356490C-249F-4C05-AD54-23E8C2C46967.png
