I’m currently building a new painting facility for Yanmar.
The addition is 150’ x 200’, it’s going to be their new powder coat paint facility for their equipment.
Today my guys poured 450 yards, about 20,000 ft.². It’s that time of the year where everybody’s trying to get stuff done before the weather really changes. We started pouring at 6:30 and got done around 2 o’clock. Most of it was already set up by 5:30.
The ironworkers have about half of the roof done and still have another couple weeks to go to finish it.
All the equipment is scheduled to come in around 1 December and be done by March 1. They want to be operational April 1.

April 1st Operational Date!?

That's a joke right????

April Fools!
That’s the same thing I said at the first meeting, they didn’t think it was very funNy…:ROFLMAO: not everyone appreciates my humor.
They will be operational April 1…
Their new partner (Japan) is pretty insistent on it.
Last month they wanted us to go ahead and build a 65,000 square-foot automated warehouse for them. We told them it was a little late in the year because things freeze up here…. We’re starting that next spring.

My father in law was a superintendent on dozens of bridge jobs. He built bridges in Missouri , Illinois, Florida and a few other states. He was on a PBS film about building bridges. Sadly he’s gone now. But I remember some of the stories he told about those bridge crews. Some pretty funny stuff. I also saw pictures of his crew walking across I beams 200 ft above the Missouri River. No fookin way I would have done that. I salute all you construction workers.

I've had the pleasure of hanging out with Fly a few times and I'm still not convinced he had a real job. He always says he has one, but he never seems to have to go work anywhere.

:ROFLMAO:

If I had Fly's compound I wouldn't go anywhere either. Guy has it figured out.

Nice bldg Dean. Build yuuu wonna dem !?

(That's Minnesotan for "why don't you build yourself one of those buildings?" You have to stress the you and exaggerate the ew part at a higher pitch.)

Being done by April 1 is completely doable, right from the beginning… I was just joking with them. These two facilities will bring 350 more full-time jobs to my hometown.
Caterpillar and Terex both have partnered with this company at one point, why their mergers fell through is beyond me.
The hardest group I have ever had to work for is the LDS church.

And here all this time, Mr Flypaper has been telling us his FALwood sales would finance his eventual retirement, but he actually has a real job with benefits?

Here's my shocked face: o_O

All kidding aside, it would seem you have an interesting and lucrative profession. (y)

If your work for them is the quality of your work for us, they are fortunate to have you on board. :)

Righteous, Fly.

My dad was a mason contractor, and I worked for him in the summer, weekends, winter break, etc... I got to play go-fer, doing all sorts of jobs. Learned to drive on those big RT forklifts. Anyway, it was eye-opening to see the bricklayers and laborers working, but also all the other trades and suppliers doing their part to make something out of nothing.

I might bitch and moan while getting a project done, but I can definitely feel accomplishment at having built something.

I really appreciate all the positive responses. I originally posted it to show how great a job my guys did on that concrete slab, it was one of our biggest pours.
I got to work this morning and everything was saw cut, they got done with everything by 9 o’clock….
So that was about 15 hours start to finish.
Here’s some pictures of the ironworkers. They build roof sections on the ground and then set them , it saves a lot of time.

Thr fun part is, the building that we’re adding onto is one that I worked on with the last construction company I was with back in the 90s..

I assume it's a bit more accurate than the randomly grabbed 2X4 I've always used in the past?
The big thing is wearing your guys down on big pours… Let the machine do the heavy work.
The finishers even it all out with their riding power trowel’s, you really have to know what you’re doing with them, I don’t. IMG_3364.png IMG_3367.png IMG_3368.png

Awesome Fly ,
I worked high rise construction in all five boroughs of NYC for 20 years and I’m out of it now for about 7 years. The largest pour I was on was 2,200 hundred yards (225 truck load’s)and it started at 8am and ran until 3 am the next morning. Don’t miss it but it was definitely amazing to start at street level and in a year or so be anywhere from 300 to 900 feet up. Only time I ever liked the toilet known as NYC. Awesome work brother and thank you for sharing.

Watched a large heavy industry facility go up from drilling anchors to the bedrock (300+ feet down) to installing the machinery inside and definitely got an understanding of what goes in to these modern marvels we call cities. People take so much for granted.

Just curious, what's the thickness of that slab you poured?

Just curious, guessing that slab is 18" thick?
6” with fiber mesh on this pour.
there is a 24” recessed floor area for the washbay that we poured to.
The rest of the area gets rebar, it’s the forklift area. I’ll post those up next week.
