I’m gonna say the simple fact of the matter is the TENON on the aftermarket front sight is just too short.

The Brownells staking tool was 100% useless in this attempt. The anvil of the staking tool was way too large for the little bit of available tenon, and the anvil would not fit into the small recess around the tenon. I did NOT want to hog-out a lot of metal on the slide just to get enough space to attempt a few wild visibility-obscured whacks at that itty-bitty tenon.

I resorted to using the automatic center punch to flare what little bit of “meat” the tenon offered. And the automatic punch actually worked very well for the small amount of metal I had to work with. I had good visibility to allow me to accurately place the tip of of the punch. I gave the tenon five good “snaps” with the punch until the available metal was as flared as could be achieved with what was there.

At least the sight did lie down securely flush with the top of the slide after hitting it with the automatic punch.

I never did manage to get the slide clamped in any vise or such for the coups de grace with the automatic center punch. I just free-handed the slide against the vise anvil while I wailed on the tenon with the automatic punch.

Yer killing me.

When that front sight decides to leave home, would you send the slide up here and let me dovetail it?

Send it with a tall Novak blank. I’ll finish the blade at max height so you’ll still be able shell Hanoi. Once in a proper dovetail, it will trouble you no more.

I’d like to try shooting this thing tomorrow.

If I’m reading the specs right, it’s one-hour drying (fixture???) time. Dafug won’t they just speak plain English?!!!

Its sure looking like it’s gonna come to that.

I appreciate the offer.

I’m laying poor odds that it’s gonna last much past the first primer.

Grace, pride, tell me what's your name?

Crippled will with tomorrow's pill
'Cause I feel no pain and I can't remember
Whose to blame

This is not my home
This is not my home
But the source was always known

My grain
I beg, you steal, do you show me your signs of a sin
Blistered and torn by the pure & reborn
But they're just like us and remember man
They cave in

This is not my home
This is not my home
But the source was always known
My grain

War stone, do you write your name in trust?
Word to the wise my instincts rise
All your heros are gone and the proud
Ones have turned to dust

You can kill my pride but my heads still
Flying!

My grain
My grain
My grain
