SCCY makes blades? Couldnt find them on their site...

SAC camper is my real daily, but if I had to pick only one:

Utility chosen over combat capability

I consider my "only one" a fixed blade, thick spine, heavier chopper and capable cutter, with a good belly curve for butchering and slicing.

Kabars, glock tool, m7.8.9, randall and the like are excellent for lighter carry, but limited to poke and slice, as they usually dont have the weight to chop.

That said, Nuther vote for esee 5. Heavy enough to really get work done, almost so heavy to not want to carry. A slim and light set of scales with swell ends for retention and a non-factory sheath helps reduce the bulk, making the load easier to justify carrying.

I carry a 10” meat cleaver and it chops through anything and the blood spattered leather sheath is a nice attention getter. Sends a little message too.

There’s some good blades that have been mentioned here.

my list would include the following:
Collins model 1250 bolo machete
Buck model 105
Buck model 107 scout
Camillus model 1011 (1014 if I had one)

The last 3 have served me well over the years. The Buck 107 Scout was what my dad carried every day for 40 plus years. If I had Busse like one of Andy‘s I would include it on the list too.

As civilization didn't completely fall apart during the COVID pandemic, I've been reflecting on just what is the most essential service that a fixed blade knife can render, and so I'm changing my election from the INCOLMA machete to the Mares Tris dive knife, due to its undeniable advantage in terms of convenience and ease of use by incorporating a bottle opener in the fixed blade. Beers on me!!

I carry a Spyderco Endura every day, carried it for a very long time now. It's been an excellent knife.

I believe my “what if...” knife would be my recently purchased L.T. Wright GNS. 4.5” drop point, saber ground blade in 01 steel with a natural Micarta handle. Spine on the knife has a pronounced edge for striking ferro rod.

I’ve got and carried, a buck 120, Randall #14, and an old gerber mkii, the least “useful” was the mkii. Seemed to serve a better purpose when is was in the Air Force; the other two are great out in the woods, but too big for “edc”. I like the look of these 5” bush craft knives. That Esee5 and the one that Qwkctrss made are darn near exactly what I’m looking for in my next fixed blade.

.....still too soon for me to post in this thread again..... :D
Naa, there has to be one or two (dozen) knives in your knife cabinet, you could tell us why one or the other were "almost the right knife, but not quite".

I almost bought a SYCKCO and found it would have been near exactly my ESEE5, different handle profile, same as my BK2.

The thing I like about the ASH1 is its blade's center tip profile and slightly higher saber grind. I need to find one with a flat grind on a .25-.27 " chunk of infi.

I should have mentioned the other day that flat ground .22s are, I was going to say common but it is the wrong word, “around” probably is closer. It’s is a fine size as well.

Was the SYKCO you looked at a Son of Dogfather ? Very close to the ESEE5 ! Also if you see a “TrASH1” they are a fine knife as well !!! ResC ASH1 in SR101 steel !
Yes, the Trash is a distraction for sure. Half the money of an ASH and a good solid grip. The one in the listing is a .27", so might be close to outweighting a pint can.
