Good move Gary, seeing lots of this behaviour on other forums and in about 90% of cases it is scamming.

Often refers to an old WTB post by the person being messaged along the lines of "Hey I saw you were wanting blue widget, my friend in Nebraska has a couple for sale, his name is Bob and his email is xxxxx@scamcentral.com, get in touch and tell him I sent you..."

Err, umm, you mean this hasn't BEEN the policy... all along? Seems we haven't had much of that obvious scamming... must be our respectable "front" and fearsome FALs... keep up the good werk!

Also, I think consistently spellin' Gunsmithin' with one-G scares off "those" people. :cautious:

Have had three or four people I didn't know solicit me when mentioned in threads was "considering" letting go of a certain rifle or rifles. Were not MP ads and after a couple emails/texts (they wanted to take it off board) just put them on ignore as felt fishy. Have regular members I recognize ask me if have item they may need and that usually works out, Even if it doesn't no scam was attempted. I have just stopped ignoring anyone who had less than two dozen posts and zero feedback. That makes it pretty simple.

I've found myself the target of just such scamming posts on another forum I'm on. Caught them both times. It was the same person, but with different names. Mark says kick out bums who only visit or use Market Place, but you should also include those who influence newbies to "start another rifle". Those are bums, too. And, people who don't ride motorcycles. Yeah...............bums.

Since I was just hacked I’d suggest very highly that everyone use pictures that show “proof of life” in sales adds and buyers should demand pictures of proof of life. Also if the seller seems pushy for you to get the payment sent within minutes it’s probably a scam.

Yup. A bunch of us have also turned on 2 step verification, too.
I nearly jumped on your scammer's sales ad, just knew it was too good to be true.

Ok so I’m new here
How do I know if my posts are meaningful?
I’m not selling anything but my dad moved to Nashville and took all the scotch
All I got left is some Jameson
Not sharing at all
I’d insert some smiley face thing here
I don’t know how yet
Excellent, looks like you are going to fit in well.

Do you know the rules for pictures? Mags must be inserted or you will get hazed. Bonus points for toes, rifles laying horizontally on concrete (OK, you can have a towel), adult beverage visible somewhere, tools on tool bench, touring motorcycle or similar in the background.

Immediately above where you post a reply to a topic there's a line with icons: Remove formatting, Bold, Italic, Underline, Strikethrough, Text color, Font family, Font size, Insert link, Insert image, SMILIEYS. Click on the smiley to insert a smiley.

If the address is in say Kiev Ukraine, it might be a big clue...

If new members who have no meaningful posts to the forums try to hit up members at random for sales, i will ban the new member.

Please “report” any such solicitation you may receive.
What about really old members who have no meaningful posts? I haven't logged on in years and my posts have always been quite unmeaningful.
