With Brazil going iron that new world currency , I don't see fal parts coming in. It seem we are stuck with dsa cast stuff. Any ideas what country might be sitting on a bunch of metric fals? Maybe someone with the tooling to make semi auto receivers? Any idea how to get ahold of they guys at imbel? I asked the consulate. I was shut down fast

I don't see any possibility that any place on this planet will be making semi-auto FAL uppers other than DSA. Even at current pricing for good receivers the cost of starting up a production line (VERY expensive to start up and a huge technical challenge) and importing them into the US there really isn't enough of a market to justify that. Add to that the fact that additional new supply would depress prices and there just isn't any good reason.

Maybe to get more people in to the fal life! I went backwards. I started with the ar like everyone else. Then moved to the ak. If I had moved to the fal I would have a bunch more recievers

ARs, like them or not, are a necessary part of life.
FAL, love them or FO, are truly the spice of life.
AKs, are COMBLOC POS sticks and suck ass.

My two cents

The US will not allow the importation of FAL receivers from overseas so no chance of IMBEL sending us any.

Today your choice is US made or bust.

AKs are great, ARs not so much. The AK Files is a whole other subject!

All that Brazil stuff is over. Barrels can't be imported anyway for a FAL. All the receivers and such came in years ago.
Barrels can be imported - they just can't be threaded - but there's really no need to.

I used to wonder why FN, IMBEL, FMAP or someone didn't make a "bolt operated sporting" rifle with a FAL receiver and as many standard FAL parts as possible. No gas system for semi-auto operation, just a "sight tower" on the barrel undrilled for gas hole; and some kind of straight stock w/o a pistol grip.

But we're all past that point now. I'm sure the AFT bois would make up some arbitrary rule to ban its import anyway.

Probably because nobody that made FALs for commercial export made that much money off of them. They were basically countries that had mil production already and made a commercial version. How many total did FN and Springfield sell would probably answer that question

I believe that's how IWI Galil ACE rifles and/or Tavors are imported, and 'converted' to semi-automatic here.

Only sporting semi auto receivers and rifles can be imported. What that means is that magwells can only be single stack mag wells. When AKs are imported the magwells are cut for single stack magazines and they are then opened up once they are here in the states, easy enough to do with a stamped receiver.

Someone would have to make a single stack FAL magazine and then a single stack FAL receiver that could be convertible once here.

Barrels yes and no.. Unthreaded AK barrels can be imported because there are approved sporting AKs that are importable. Those sporting AKs are imported with unthreaded barrels which are then threaded when they get here.

Even if you found unthreaded FAL barrels somewhere they would not qualify for importation because there are no importable sporting FALs

What about the century imbels ? Was that at a different time? Mr556 ar brought in as double stacks !
Those were pre receiver import ban. Even the PARS receivers that you can still buy were imported long ago and have been packed away in crates slowly being released when needed.

I got a Fal barrrel from New Zealand last year through a importer, it had to come separate from the EX1 kit.
Yeah, you can probably sneak something through as a one off. Never going to happen as a commercial mass import though.

Brother Xsefan: You have a better chance spending your time, energy and money trying to get FN AMERICA to crank out NEW FALs. Orrrrr, you could spend the same time, energy and money trying to win a few of those 10 digti Mega-Million and Powerball lottos and then build your own FAL factory(ies). Either way, you have the same chances of reviving manufacture of NEW FALs.

Hey! Good luck! I'll buy a few from ya'!

Yes AKs are great. ARs have much better precision with a scope and ergonomics than an AK with a scope. Just sayin. And yes. The AK Files are a whole other subject. :)
Every AK I’ve owned goes down the road. I can’t stand those things. To me they're unreliable, inaccurate, and poorly constructed pieces of SH!T.
I can’t make them work with me. Too small, I feel like a giant and AKs are built for midgets.
