My preferred work truck (1993 Dakota 4WD) is so rough looking bit 100% reliable have not locked the doors in years. Do lock toolbox, under front seat is locking "car safe", have police rifle lock behind seat for EDC rifle plus a "cable-cuff" lock bolted to passenger seat mounts can clamp around extra rifle or other objects. Windows are tinted so dark nobody can see in but even with four ham radio antennas nobody pays it any attention as reached point see almost as much primer and light rust as paint. Have resprayed areas as needed in past that are fading at different rates and its now about five shades of red where still red.

Would drive it across the country if needed and just carry tools to fix if anything broke but bet it would get me there and back as has many times before. The new truck is so nice and has so many options had camera system installed that integrates with three rear facing, one forward facing and two covering cab that are always recording. Has alarm and nobody is getting through windows easily with the 3M Ultra Prestige security film or doors with ballistic panels. Can't really access wires to yank loose from underside with front, transfer case, mid body, rear and differential skid plates that have bottom of truck slick as bottom of a boat. Worry about it locked with alarm set than the Dakota with doors unlocked.

In American cities during an apocalypse, the first store to be looted is the one with Nike shoes, followed by the one selling large screens. You know, a man's gotta eat.
Well in the event of a total breakdown, I hope the people inclined to steal Nike's and TV's focus all their attention there instead of where the good stuff is.
I wonder if those smash & grab gangs have tried that shit in the Korean neighborhoods?

About ten years ago wife was visiting a group of friends in Columbia SC who went to University of SC or were part of local music scene of which several became studio musicians, one a songwriter in Nashville with over a dozen top ten hits written, two working in Hollywood sound studios and such. All the musicians were planning to reunite the guys from the three local bands and one sound & light company from the late 70s/early 80s in area called "Little Five Points".

There are several people from the group of friends who still live in Columbia area and suggested taking reunion out of Columbia or at least the Five Points area for sure. Said it was overrun by gangs and every traffic light had spotters who looked first for cops and second victims. If car had a couple or two, purses visible on seats, late model vehicle and appeared to be out for a evening of fun they called ahead and next light someone would step in crosswalk then two others broke out windows on each side of vehicle. They would demand all purses, wallets, watches and jewelry and phones telling occupants if did not leave immediately or tried calling police would be shot at next intersection or two.

Wife had spent her time at USC walking Five Points day and night especially weekends going from bar to bar listening to music. Asked a local friend to drive her through. He had another guy and wife wanting to see so he agreed. Refused to drive his new SUV saying luxury cars and SUVs were most likely to be car jacked especially if doors unlocked and perps could open and snatch occupants out quickly. Has a older Ford Bronko with roll bars, brush guard, winch bumpers front and back plus tall tires and motor with lots of torque. She wore her favorite covert armor, loaned spare covert to other female and plate carrier to one of the guys. Wife said they put hard top on, all had handguns in hand and as described every intersection had a group of gang bangers trying to peer through tinted windows.

They made one trip through main road and was exactly as described. He said as went through most likely intersections to be shot and expect for armed muggers to be at every ATM so when someone stopped to get cash if looked like a victim odds are would be robbed. I remember a Files member being held up in this area and complied as muggers had the drop and drawing from the drop is what you try to avoid if just handing wallet over appeased perps. Few can draw from the drop against two perps with guns in hand.

She said even with all four occupants having CCWs, never unlocking doors, ability to push forwards or rearward in most blocking efforts, all with hands on pistols plus three of four in armor it was scary and didn't see a single cop in that area. Monday my new truck goes into dealership for only push bar/brush guard found to fit that is not totally tacky, made from milspec armored tube and plate. Not cheap but made from AR 250 steel and does not block any of the forward cameras, collision avoidance sensors, lane departure sensors but will delay airbag deployment which I like as will be only truck I don't remove them. Also installing an AR 250 round bar in receiver to protect rear bumper and all sensors and cameras in it unless take a strong hit. Found Chevy approved steel running boards with 5" wide step that reach from wheel to wheel. They are adding ballistic seat covers with molle on backs that cost over $350 per seat and ballistic rated window film and barriers inside of doors.

My apologies and empathy: folks often mistake the shit-hole of New York City with the entirety of New York State.

"Defund the Police", she simpered.
"Oh noes! The Morlocks are real!" she shrieked.

SAN FRANCISCO—On Wednesday, San Francisco Mayor London Breed made a fiery speech in response to recent increases in thefts and drug sales and use in the city, particularly in the Tenderloin, a notoriously gritty stretch residents say has had similar issues for decades.

“It’s time that the reign of criminals who are destroying our city, it is time for it to come to an end,” Breed said, arguably sounding more like a police union boss than a Democratic politician in a progressive stronghold. “It comes to an end when we take the steps to be more aggressive with law enforcement. More aggressive with the changes in our policies. And less tolerant of all the bullshit that has destroyed our city.”

The tough talk represented a stark reversal for Breed, who, shortly after the murder of George Floyd last year, stripped $120 million from the San Francisco Police Department to fund initiatives aimed at improving the lives of Black residents. In the days since, her statements have drawn praise from some residents and business owners in the Tenderloin who say they sympathize with justice reform but that longstanding problems have gotten out of control as crime numbers shoot up nationwide.

Know Beaufort well. Where in Spartanburg? Had full ride scholarship to Wofford but when went for recruitment/orientation no girls so opted for Berry in NE GA as close to Chattanooga & N Alabama rock climbing, TAG area caving plus 35,000 acre campus at time, understand they sold some off but remain largest campus in nation. Was dressing to go bow hunting on campus one morning running late and saw buck out window of dorm room. Shot it through window on front lawn of Dana dorm building just as head RA stepped out front door. Second trip to Dean's office my first quarter.

In post op in Atlanta, wife insisted surrender my truck keys though carried pistol in wearing covert body armor. She left truck to use restroom and locked both sets of keys in truck. AAA showed while I was in operatory, went to wrong parking deck but could not call with her as phone locked in truck as well. Told her never get out of truck in ATL without purse as where keeps her carry pistol and phone but ignored the rules and they won't release me till she gets truck open. Now waiting for AAA to dispatch second time. She was arguing with me about keys when left for preop so folded but will never do that again.

In Beverly Hills, even the purchase of a firearm comes with certain…expectations. The city’s only gun store, Beverly Hills Guns, is a “concierge service” by appointment only, for a largely affluent clientele. And business is booming.

Since opening in July 2020, the store has seen upscale residents from Santa Monica to the Hollywood Hills increasingly in a panic following several high-profile smash-and-grab and violent home invasion robberies. The apparent siege has brought in a daily stream of anxious business owners and prominent actors, real estate moguls and film execs, says owner Russell Stuart. Most are arming themselves for the first time.

“This morning I sold six shotguns in about an hour to people that say, ‘I want a home defense shotgun,’” says Stuart, whose store is discreetly located in a Beverly Hills office building, with no sign on the doors, down the hall from a diamond dealer. “Everyone has a general sense of constant fear, which is very sad. We’re used to this being like Mayberry.”

That fear has the wealthiest of local gentry contemplating every more elaborate security measures: armored luxury cars, safe rooms and bullet-proof glass in their homes. One client asked about creating the “Tony Stark-level” security of a half-dozen automated drones to hover over his house, says Stuart, whose gun store is part of his larger security company, Force Protective Agency. “If you want the Gucci package, it’s going to cost money.”

More than a dozen Los Angeles gangs are targeting some of the city's wealthiest residents in a new and aggressive manner, sending out crews in multiple cars to find, follow and rob people driving high-end vehicles or wearing expensive jewelry, according to police.

In many cases, they're making off with designer handbags, diamond-studded watches and other items worth tens of thousands of dollars — if not more — and then peddling them to black-market buyers who are willing to turn a blind eye to the underlying violence, police said.

Set myself up a new "battle belt" today. Has a Safariland holster for my 40 Smith SIG, knife and multitool on strong side. Center of back is one of the newish "mini" IFAKs that has the essentials for a gunshot or other large wound and nothing else. Weak side it has a single AR mag and three spare mags for my SIG. It has two drop leg panels (one each side that can drop of in seconds if don't want) and each drop leg panel holds four AR mags. Pulled the internal padding and replaced with three NIJ 2 liners that overlap my covert armor giving more protection across stomach and upper hips. The drop leg panels have room for a 6"x6" NIJ 2 panel in them without adding bulk or stiffness. Can grab the belt and click three buckles and have increased my armor coverage and am minimally kitted up when grab rifle from behind seat. If pull on hard armor they do not interfere with each other and still have ability to bend t the waist. Got the basic idea from this guys kit.

Modified the new battle belt today. Added Fastex buckles to the belt and drop leg panels so can run without the spare AR Mags and if feel the need can just snap them on. Moved my IFAK from dead center to left of center where drop bag was and moved drop bag to dead center. Now can reach the drop with either hand if need to get rid of something but not throw away. Added a radio pouch that holds very small radio with PTT with microphone can snake out of pouch, clip to anything then slip earpiece in ear. Still holds three spare pistol mags and one AR mag. Liner belt is load bearing rated so if had to use for emergency vertical use won't be a comfortable as a harness with leg loops but buckle and attachment point won't fail. Swapped the Safariland holster for a Ghost IDPA holster and it's a grab snap and go.

Work days I wear a SIG 2022 double stack 40 Smith strong side with two spare mags weak side. Had never considered a SA/DA polymer frame pistol as a EDC carry but my work is crawling under trucks, climbing ladders, rolling around in floor, crawlspaces, etc and had recently married up another nice 1911 when had to crawl under a truck in gravel lot to pull and cut a ton of grass and kudzu that was wrapped around driveshaft, front CV axles and suspension. Saw the 2022s in SIG dealers case on special, $275 for pistol with two spare mags and an "accessory kit".that contained a SIG level 3 paddle style retention holster, SIG two magazine paddle style mag pouch and third magazine. Bought one, blew a 250 round value pack of ammo through it and drove back to LGS buying a second same day. Before end of week added a third Tacops (talk sights and threaded for suppressor) then inside of month found a used, purchased one in 9mm and another in 357 SIG and now own four in 40, three in 9mm and two in 357 SIG as was finding lightly used for under $250 with four or five mags, Tacops models, etc. But $275 out the door with black stainless slide riding in steel rails on polymer frames make them perfect "rough service" pistols. Most have gone back to SIG custom shop for short reset trigger conversion, trigger jobs and other features.

Now have two battle belts set up in different ways all with SIG 2022s plus several overt armor LBEs. Having the belt laying close with most of what a person could need short of a rifle can slip out my paddle rig, don belt and be fairly well.equipped with essentials Liking the setups.

So these high-end retail stores.....I'm assuming that, generally, they are insured for things like theft. When these organized gangs bust in and loot the, would the store get the price tag value of the stuff stolen,or the actual cost, what they bought the stuff-cost? Stuff like jewelry is insanely skewed in what it sells for vs. what it is really worth.

I think those towns should tackle this wave of robberies by increasing the minimum value of the crime before it becomes a jail-able offense to $100K. And then tell the news companies any crime below that can't be reported. How else will those thieves enterprising individuals fighting Jan 6 white supremacy be able to get the Cadillacs they deserve?

Had to leave the house for the third time in three weeks going to ATL doctor for wife. As usual broke foot and all loaded her wheelchair put rifles in both slots of rack under back seat and ballistic briefcase. Secret Service/FBI issue briefcase carries SIG 2022 "SIG Pro" Tacops with tritium tall sights and Osprey 9 suppressor mounted, dozen spare mags for the SIG neatly in mag pockets, pair of electronic hear through muffs and four spare mags for the SBRs in exterior Velcro flap pocket. Truck (all trucks) always has oversize IFAK with everything in U.S.G.i issue plus extra tourniquets, chest seals, blood clot and two artery clamps.

Usually add a six magazine bandoleer of M855a1 one side and 69 grain SMKs other side and two rifle rated plate carriers along with my "dope kit". The kit has a Vortex laser rangefinder, annenometer on little tripod and spare smartphone with Strelock Pro with rifles/ammo combination of day already selected in drop down menu. One of the SBRs has a 12.5" Krieger single point cut rifled barrel that shoots sub MOA with scope but carries a 2 MOA dot SIG Romeo 5 with 3x swing up magnifier in case a long shot is critical. Will usually add my medium medical kit also in case come across a car accident and first able person on scene. Because of broken foot left out these pieces of kit assuming average trip to ATL doc.

Dressed in Short Bark Industries PUGs which have the largest trauma pads of any Tier 1 PUG and put two sets of pads in "pockets" instead of one. Covers Superior, Inferior and Deep Femorial arteries plus hip joint to NIJ 2 when layer two pads then crotch, groin and butt with blast/shrapnel (U.S. issue hand grenade) rated antimicrobial Kevlar. Totally unnoticeable under Levi's but huge level of extra protection. Wore Safariland Zero G covert NIJ 3a kit with 8"×10" special threat plate as base armor and wife wore her "dress" NIJ 2 high waste kit with pink inner liner, silky white outer cover with white lace trim that looks like camisole instead of armor.

Pistol today was SIG 1911 Target from SIG Custom Shop with tritium front sight, ambi safety, magwell funnel, 11° target crown, 3.25 pound trigger, etc (2022 in briefcase visited SIG Custom Shop as do most of my SIG carries) in Bianchi #5 "jackslide" with thumb break strap. Also on belt were three spare ten round mags in Ghost IDPA magnetic mag holders, compact tactical light and small/medium Leatherman tool. Had two eight round mags in left rear pocket, "Swiss Army" executive knife in front left pocket then truck keys and USB drive with all my medical records in right pocket. Loose dress overshirt in subdued leaf pattern to cover EDC kit, oversize Corcoran Jump Boots to support swollen foot and my cain to hobble on.

In doctors office all was smooth till assistant came to tell doctor had upset patient in reception saying "lost" their pain meds and needed two week script to get through. He said no time to waste, tell patient no doctors available and if didn't leave to call ambulance and cops. Lost, stolen, dog ate them and died is now a common thing in doctors offices for seekers who overtook their meds. Asked doc if wanted me to go sit in waiting room for a few minutes and he said please. Hit waiting room from back and sat in corner just before assistant and two other employees came in. Told patient doctor was not available and all they could do was call for an ambulance or book an appointment next week so he decided to leave.

Been weeks without a single trip to grocery store and wife wanted five items on way home. Jumped off big road hitting Costco not finding any, Sam's Club had three (parked in handicap parking and used a handicap cart) but her most wanted item still not found. Same exit has a Walmart (Costco, Sam's Club and Walmart all within 1.5 miles of exit/entrance ramp so stop most trips back from ATL) so she said stop at Walmart to try for two items not found. Told her didn't have a step left in me and going home. She got a bit demanding saying she would use my cain and hobble to handicap carts herself. Plan was to drop her right at door so only twenty feet from carts.

As approached entrance cop car pulled in stopping at front door so went to handicap spot and told her would have to walk must be a shoplifter. Suddenly another cop car sped in and stopped at other entrance jumping out in a hurry. Told wife that even if foot didn't hurt I would rethink going in now. Advised leaving but she had heels dug in saying wearing armor and had her Walther PK380 in purse as two more cars arrived. She got feet on pavement and about to close door when fourth cop car parked on sidewalk and rushed in door she was pointed toward. Told her she was now making a low odds move as four cops arriving in 90 seconds was odd and when gunfire starts to get flat on floor behind cover and she started hobbling away.

At this point she was in defiance mode wanting her vegi burgers and frozen cherries to spite me as I had resisted stopping at Walmart from initial mention. She was limping on cane at turtles pace as another marked patrol car along with two black unmarked SUVs all with blues flashing swooped in and men running in both doors before she was halfway to sidewalk. She did a 180° turn began shuffling double speed back to the truck, got in and said "LEAVE NOW!!!" As navigating back to main road, more cops inbound she looked at me saying "laying in the nasty floor of Walmart with bullets flying doesn't seem like something I want to do today".

Have no idea what was going down as my handheld scanner keep in her truck will listen to every frequency from low band through 1.5 GHz but it won't decode APCO 25 unless tether to laptop with some software downloaded off a Russian server. Wife does not grocery shop without me often anymore but was going to "prove" she could, cops or not till the entire force began coming in code three like swarming hornets and all she wanted was gone. The day don't do my full load out with rifle rated overt armor, enough spare ammo and "emergency" medical kit was one day out of 100 things got odd twice and that Walmart parking lot could have gone to crap in a hurry.

Told her have seen cops at Walmarts dozens if not hundreds of times in my life. Cop car at one door is common, two not uncommon but when third and fourth arrives its freaking time to leave not hobble toward door. Said "there's a Walmart two exits up if want to stop" and got the "your going to wake up with a fork stabbed in your eye" look and shut my mouth. With the rash of shootings of late so close to an election I tend to think conspiracy so dang if want to go in anywhere cops are arriving faster than I can count.

FBI warns Asian business owners in New Jersey of ‘sophisticated criminal enterprises' targeting them (yahoo.com)

There have been an increasing number of reports from Asian business owners over the past three years who have been targeted by “sophisticated criminal enterprises,” according to Supervisory Special Agent Mike Ratta of the FBI field office in Newark. Ratta pointed out that numerous criminal groups are monitoring Asian American businesses to note their opening and closing routines.

Asians used to be the ones that everyone left alone. It was an unwritten rule that you didn't bother them.
By the same token, they never really bothered anyone else (unless provoked, such as the Rodney King riots) and just kept to themselves.
Times change, I guess. A target of opportunity is a target of opportunity.

Have "friend" whose wife manages a popular national chain restaurant popular with middle class steak and seafood with drinks crowd. Says his wife walks out back door most nights with well into five figures cash she drives to bank night deposit. Asked him why didn't find her a new job or he didn't sit in parking lot while she locked back door and follow her to bank?

He seemed to think idea she was at risk walking out every night by herself with bag of cash was unwarranted. Assumed a chain like that would have a safe with drop slot emptied once or twice a day by armored car service. He thought that was even more odd as would cost.money and her bonus was directly linked to her franchises profits.

Back in days I used a debit card, cut that up over thirty years ago, was at my banks ATM and saw bag looking like about to fall out of night deposit after midnight on a Saturday night. Walked over to shove it in and because night deposit (before bank opened Saturdays so wasnt emptied from close Friday till opened Monday) was so full could not get it to go in. Went to try pulling out to get better angle and was another bag hung not dropping into box so pulled it out too. Tried to get either of the bags to go in and drop to secured part and would not go.

Monday was in parking lot when they unlocked (had learned a few years earlier trying to speak with employee between their parking lot and back door before opening was highly frowned upon) door walked both bags in and gave to manager telling him what happened. He said drop box had been malfunctioning for almost two weeks and Diebold had not repaired it yet. When open it has "blind tray" drop bag in then when close contents are supposed to drop down chute into secure safe. Said bags were not dropping out of tray into chute and found bags either in tray or poking out every Monday morning past two weekends.

He acted like no big deal but having counted both bags I would have considered a big deal. Stunned when first bag hung it's owner didn't remove but second bag left 1/3 poking out of slot that person must not have cared. Manager said if anything went missing would have person on video. I thought next bag see drive away, put on mask and walk up if was short on cash if had criminal tendencies but can't go out like that.

During period bank lobby locked due to covid and all transactions were at window drove up to make deposit for business, pay credit card statement and deposit in personal with a cash back for some pocket money. Both lines were wrapped around building with single teller so soon as got my three envelopes back dropped in console and left. Was typical scoot through before closed on Friday so when got to work, opened envelope to discover got $500 more back than requested had to wait till Monday.

Entered branch and asked assistant manager if drive through drawer balanced out Friday. She went wide eyed and asked how I knew and said got wrong amount back in cash back transaction. She asked me how much error and said would not say, tell me how far drawer was off and if was amount I suspected would tell her. Friends wife senior teller other branch and if drawer is off a dollar teller, senior teller and a manager stayed till igured out mistake. His wife had stayed late as midnight trying to balance a drawer, and if didn't figure it out was a form required that made everyone look bad.

She finally said it was off $500 and I handed her the $500 and she said were so busy Friday with single teller working two lanes they had no idea where it went but knew who got shorted as had gone into main branch which is open till noon on Saturdays. Amazes me how so casual folks can be. I only got $100 back and maybe first time drove off without counting cash but had been in line fifteen minutes and wanted gone. If done $500 or more would not have driven away without counting and now check every envelope even if just supposed to be a receipt.
