Interesting plot twists.

Up to 10 people entered a Home Depot store in California on Friday night and left with a range of stolen tools, according to police officials.
The incident took place at approximately 8 p.m. local time in Lakewood, Los Angeles Sheriff's Department Deputy Miguel Meza told CNN. Lakewood is a city in Los Angeles County. The thieves made off with hammers, sledgehammers, crowbars and other tools. After grabbing the items, they ran out of the store and got into a getaway car parked outside, Meza said.

No one was injured and no weapons were drawn during the incident that occurred shortly after 8 p.m. in the city, approximately 15 miles south of Minneapolis, police say.

All that stuff Huey wrote about 5 points in Columbia, South Carolina is fake news. I have lived 5 blocks from 5 points since 1994. Yes , there is more crime there now than in the late 80’s -early 90’s , but it’s nothing like he described.
I do not know of a car jacking ever occuring there.
My birthday is in August. My wife and I walked down to 5 points and had a delicious meal at Saluda’s https://www.saludas.com/ . Afterwards, we walked to a pinball bar and played some pinball . We ran into a friend from school and his wife and friends. They were visiting from Florence, SC .
I went to a drive up atm in 5 points last week and got 500 clams out. Nobody jacked me . I was dividing my 1972 Triumph TR6 with the top down. I would have been an easy target. I wasn’t worried though. Why, BECAUSE IT NEVER HAPPENS down there.
Oh , and just to clarify, little 5 points is in Atlanta, I believe. The 5 points in Columbia is just 5 points.

But...but...but...defunding the police was going to create an equitable utopia wherein black, white, and brown could all live in harmony? Nobody said anything about theft rings or organized bands of hoodlums!
That is what liberal utopia looks like
Meh, they aren't stealing anything truly useful nor anything I would want, nor from any store I would ever shop at. Not sure I've ever been in a gun store where damn near every employee isn't armed, and I'd guess half the shoppers were armed as well. Not a wise move. Waiting on scared soccer moms for now...
I am waiting for CA, NJ, Chicago, and NYC pass an edict that gunshop employees are not allowed to carry guns.
These are NIJ 3a rated and fit between door skins and interior door panels so will be unseen.
View attachment 162444
How are these inserted in the door? I guess the openings once you take the inside panel are massive

Wife grew up in area and went to USC and said she was surprised when she was told this ten years ago and why she wanted to see for herself. Said they drove through about 9:00 pm on a Saturday night and groups of people wearing hoodies and gang colors were on every street corner. Her local friend gave her the information of rampant crime in the area lives about twenty minutes away from this area but has proved unreliable since he remarried about that time. In fact after forty years of friendship his wife is so jalous he can't even call or email us anymore as she does not belive male and female can have a plutonic friendship.. We discussed this once several years ago when a Files member got robbed at an ATM which some articles were linked that seems to support this thus I took it as true.

If I am wrong that is a good thing as wife wants to revisit a lot of places around Columbia we have avoided. With headlines like this if not local you have to listen to locals and your the first to tell me it is a safe area at night, especially weekends. We have been told by relatives that still live in Columbia if not familiar with the lay of the land not to go out after dark unless you ask about areas and Five Points is one they warn us about. Here in Mayberry we have seen a huge crime spike in past 30 years but most people who are not lifetime locals do not know what it used to be like. Can remember when a murder was like a once every couple years event and now weekly. I don't live there so if you say its safe then keep right on enjoying.

Okay Huey . Your right . We're all going to die if we go to 5 Points. i might want to reconsider my daily trips down there. Thanks for the heads up!
Apparently you did not comprehend my last post. We have friends and family tell us its unsafe then when try to verify their opinions the press agrees thus not being a local is the information I had to base opinion on along with a Files member being robbed at ATM in that area in old thread. If your local, go daily and say its safe then I have new information to consider. Notice one of the links I posted said it gets "rowdy after dark" but overall is not bad.

Whenever we go back to Columbia SC there are always quite a few places wife wants to visit such as Graves of parent's, grand parents and great grand parents along with wandering areas she spent her college years. Some we have avoided as told/read unsafe and like Atlanta or even here in Mayberry we have stopped going places reputed as being dangerous unless we absolutely have to. I changed my rout to work a decade ago that avoided majority of traffic and is ten minutes faster on an eight mile drive due to public/low income housing areas being taken over by Hispanic gangs but if have job in those areas head on in but avoid just to save a few minutes drive time.

If its safe to go some of the places wife remembers fondly but avoid as have been mislead about threat levels want to know.. Wife was born in Columbia, majority of relatives live in Columbia and went to school at USC before moving to Georgia. Her and a college friend who lives in Michigan were heading to Five Points about a decade ago when friend living twenty minutes away said unsafe then armed/armored up and drove through giving them a scare which relatives agreed that two lone females shouldn't go to Five Points. Next trip I will take her wherever she wants to visit if know its relatively safe.

Plot Twist

SANTA ANA (CBSLA) – A Costa Mesa woman was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of theft from multiple high-end retail stores in Southern California. A California Highway Patrol report indicated that [Ekatarina] Zharkova, 38-years-old, was surveilled by a recently implemented task force that was in place to help prevent the new string of “smash and grab robberies.” They witnessed her stealing from numerous stores, including Nordstrom Rack.

Scratch one female Fagen and another gang sprouts up like a weed.

A gang of masked goons smashed up and robbed a San Jose jewelry store Thursday afternoon, the latest smash-and-grab raid to hit a business in California. Four suspects entered the Quick Service Jewelry Design in the Eastridge Mall and used hammers to bash display cases before fleeing with jewels, according to police. The thieves eluded authorities, and the incident did not cause any injuries, cops said.

Sounds like she was arrested for shoplifting while white.
I'd say the CHP did the smart tactic of leaning on one or more Morlocks and then targeting their leadership.

LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Police Department announced Thursday more than a dozen arrests after a series of smash-and-grab thefts across the city in recent weeks where nearly $340,000 worth of merchandise was stolen Fourteen people were arrested in connection with 11 brazen robberies between Nov. 18 and 28, and all are out of custody, police Chief Michel Moore said. Most bailed out or met no-bail criteria, and one is a juvenile, he said.

Don't have Facetime. Nor do I have WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, or any app that does such unless it's a factory installed app that cannot delete from phone or tablet. I trust you but not app developers. Turning the camera on with my phone takes an act of congress. Have it set up where have to enter four digit PIN to turn it own so anyone with a little knowledge and some paid snooping apps can't bring my cameras phone and microphone to life without me even knowing.

WhatsApp was developed by guy who promised & was proven had no spyware, didn't track you, steal your contact list, save every phone call you made or access to your text message box and web surfing history. I used it for a couple years with no security issues. Developer sold the app when it became the "go-to" for reasonably secure encrypted video chat, text, etc. Less than 24 hours after Mark Zuckerberg bought WhatsApp my version wanted to update. I refused and unlike past where it kept working app refused to continue till accepted new EULA and ran update. Deleted from phone and wiped it with bleach then did web search to discover Zuckerberg's purchase and had most of the spyware in first update most Facebook related apps have. All the apps with free games see advertised on television... How can someone develop a powerful game, market on national television and give away for free? Most free apps have megaloads of spyware, track everything you do and sell your information to anyone that pays.

Even worse is many hackers learn how to access the back doors to data these apps install when accept terms of use and install. Knew lots of people using WhatsApp that said they did update kept using and were soon having different data breaches including credit card data swiped. That app had a half dozen patches in first few weeks to close all the security holes hackers found in a 24 hour rush job to turn a secure app into spyware app. I learned a lot from Kevin Mitnick and cohorts back when Usenet was popular and before it was spammed into oblivion with porn. Always kept a desktop and now a laptop with zero personal information. My clean laptop has never even logged into this group or any group I post to. When alt.2600 was the hot ticket on Usenet spent a lot of time learning, now its a Facebook group and great place to get hacked.

Have an app pay a monthly subscription that allows me to do a background check on anyone using "free public domain" data. Another accesses all public records, news media articles, public records and buys information from companies with relationships to spyware app developers. At my church and most churches I train or advise on security have a rule all people who want to work with children or security team have to sign off on a full background check done by the local sheriff's department. My background check apps often find things the sheriff's department misses as finds reports of arrests where charges were dropped and the LEO records seem to only find conviction records not arrest records where charges were dropped.

When have a congregation member who seems suspect can ask around till get their name and approximate home location, type name in app and it pulls their exact address, phone numbers, list of relatives and friends. Also if any relatives or friends have arrest records or bad credit it will highlight them. Enter name, he/she and/or one or more known associates have arrest records that involve sex predator charges or kiddie porn and then dig deeper and assign a team member to watch person like hawk. Have caught and had over ten people arrested in churches I work, some that were considered cornerstones of children's ministry.

Had guy at one church I do training, assessment and advise on as need basis flop the LEO background check but wife didn't before I was advising them. She was allowed in child ministry before I was helping with agreement her husband could not enter childrens area. This information is considered private between workers, applicants that fail and church membership is not told if someone has a criminal record. Many people with criminal records are fine folk but I never trust a person with sex predator charges. Entered all kids workers names in my app during my first assessment to ensure they had not missed anything and saw where woman in teen ministry husband & two of their "known associates" had sex convictions or charges filed in past. Began digging, asking questions to discover wife had reputation for working with teen girls and always willing to watch peoples daughters as free babysitter.

Used another paid app that monitors all peer to peer Bluetooth and Wifi traffic to find him communicating with teen girls during church services using Bluetooth connections instead of standard phone text and some traffic was explicit. Turned out wife was scouting talent for her husband then getting them to their house being the nice lady in Sunday School always willing to watch kids free. Put a team member watching him who caught him in car during service with minor teen female then full story came out wife had introduced them and several other girls admitted to being involved with them.

Don't have many free apps as most have spyware but have a suite of paid apps that are designed for snooping and it's amazing how easily I can get in peoples phones. One app allows me access to any device with open Bluetooth set up for swapping information from phone to phone. Have caught people using it to send porn to each other in church which puts them on my watch list. Caught a group of teen boys using phones to "up skirt" girls and women in church then send pics to each other. In two decades of this only had one pastor bold enough to tell congregation what was/had gone down and ask them to watch how dress or at least be watching for phones on backpacks in floor or people in crowded areas using selfie sticks to up skirt them and wives to watch their husbands phones if constantly tapping on it in church.

Knowing how easy it is to access information gathered by app vendors, directly get in someone's phone if leave Bluetooth connection open or eve's drop on info being sent peer to peer have an app constantly sweeping my own phone or tablet while using them to keep any church I help secure but not allow someone into mine when open the Bluetooh and WiFi. As an FYI can access some free apps if phone has Bluetooth on, turn on camera through a couple video chat apps and see/hear anything the phone can if want. In many cases if done in very methodical method am not breaking any laws because owner of phone gave app permission for this to be done when agreed to EULA by not just the app developers. My close friends and I still encrypt majority of emails and texts, except for mundane work related texts most of my friends install Threema (only $3.99 per month) so we can text and not overly worry about who has access to our text messages.

Have friends that do all sorts of odd things with (all legal) especially testing secure communications. have a few friends which we all keep a computer connected to internet 24/7/365 which we have written agreements that hacking these machines by the others is with permission. The game is to hack these machines and more security violations a person gets adds points. have been playing the game for over twenty years and if don't have written permission it is a felony to hack. We operate under the same rules as I.T. security consultants playing our game and its amazing how even protecting our systems against the others how often one finds a hole before the others have run the patch for it.

Have run a laptop in truck running a program called Network Stumbler since the 19990s. it logs every WiFi system it sees, names it, marks its location using GPS and everytime I drive around its logging and each WiFi connection it will refine based on if picked up from multiple streets if say take a turn around a block and it takes multiple bearings and can often map a WiFi routers location to within a few feet. About twenty years ago noticed a open WiFi connection that happened to be a dentist my wife worked for who was cheap and did all his own I.T. and had issues with MAC addresses and securing machines in each room so was running in the wide open. We also rode bicycles together and one afternoon asked him if had time for me to drop by. This was pre smart phones and the height of the PDA days. Few people had a PDA as capable as mine as theyran Palm devices like they love their I-Phones today but I was using a Handspring with interchangeable GPS, cell phone, WiFi and other snap in accessory modules. Sitting in his office asked permission to access his system with my PDA. he thought I was joking till pulled up my dental records with a PDA. He asked me if I could secure his system and basically would not let me leave till all computers were locked up.

If want to video chat with me will have to get a subscription for Wire Platform ($5.99 per month if remember correct) as my preferred app and what I recommend to all my churches to pay for on security teams phones. That allows team members to swap photos or video of a person they have odd feeling about then get feedback from team. Usually half the team will respond that dude is worthy of 99.9% trust but on occasion nobody has ever sen that person or someone says he is a known neer-do-well. Secure Private messenger is just as strong and free but again I do not trust free stuff. I always suspect that free has a hidden agenda and back doors. Feel if paying for a service with great reputation odds are they can make enough money off subscriptions to pay the bills without data mining. Wife grumbles at times about my monthly app costs but when I type in random names and she sees background on people she has known for years or show her how I can turn on cameras using free app back doors.

Will be in Columbia Friday and Saturday as several friends of wife (Rob Crosby, T-Bird Tolego, Smoker & the Sumpter SC/USC 70s guys) playing a big gig on Main St. They try to do an annual reunion from all the guys coming home from Nashville, Austin, west coast and more that their music scattered them all over the country. Any locals would likely enjoy the show, Rob has three top 10 hits and has written dozens of #1 and top 10 hits for other musicians.

Will be mostly 70s cover music mixed with originals. Will be the heavily armed freak with back to the corner & wife will be the cute lady backstage or on soundboard. Been three years since the original "Brother Band" has played the annual reunion gig in Columbia. Not looking overly forward to going out in public but it will make the wife happy and know what they say about happy wives. Even booked a room at Hampton Inn so able to visit and maybe walk the Five Points area. Please don't sneak up behind me and say "Boo!" it won't bode well.

Dealership finally got bulk of "dealer options" factory would not install along with some aftermarket options. Hopefully only have one more trip back to replace one incorrect part and the aftermarket front end push bar/brush guard that is made of milspec AR steel armor tube and plate. Mounts to frame and tow hook locations for full support them adds tow hooks on bar so don't loose that ability. Really like the ballistic cloth seat covers that fit almost snug as seat upholstery has full coverage molle on rear which have over a dozen molle accessory pouches on already and front seat covers have a pocket that holds a soft body armor panel and was able to put a NIJ 3a medium width extra long torso panel in each protects from my shoulder tips to waist if bullet gets through rear of cab. Has to defeat bed which has ballistic rated Paxcon sprayed the instead of bed liner polymer, toolbox with 1/4" AR 400 plate bolted inside rear taking up almost zero space and 3M blast rated ballistic window film on all windows plus likely will cut a piece of ballistic polycarbonate to up protection from rearward shots when figure out how to mount without messing up my interior trim.

They found a.pair of NIJ 3a ballistic door panels from their police vehicle options that fit in my doors so fairly well wrapped with steel and ballistic options including ballistic blast rated film on inside of front windshield. Got my electronic gun lock installed behind between front & rear seats which holds most long guns currently holding a 5.56 AR 15 with 13.5" White Oak barrel and Noveske Flaming Pig flash can pinned to make 16.15". Went to finally put my big home pack in as didn't want it in truck during two multinight trips back to dealer.

Soon as my front and rear AR steel push bars arrive and are installed. My side steps replaced with correct length (shipped 64" instead of 84" and tech installed without thought) as want wheel to wheel step plus body protection as paid big for 500 pound rated step and rock crawling rated underside protection. Once get the right steps, front and rear milspec armor steel push bars plus figure out some extra ballistic protection for rear windshield and two small side windows behind door glass will have a full on urban assault vehicle.

Colorado's option with 308 hp V6 as biggest engine choice but was able to order the 355 hp model that's put in Camaros. When arrived dealer added cold air box and.factory CAT Back exhaust from GM performance then dyno tuned truck, has 375 hp to rear wheels and estimated 400 hp at flywheel with ability to turn up but don't want to start breaking drivetrain. They changed the top speed limiting in computer from 135 mph to 142 mph and I have ability to turn that up with plug in tuner keeping in console along with changing shift points to suit me in the eight speed transmission.

While all the work was being done took my "bug home" daypack out as has spare 5.56 ammo, extra communication equipment, Taurus heavy barrel 22 Mag with red dot plus a brick of Hornady polymer tip 22 Mag ammo. 500 rounds of 22 Mag is lots of firepower to weigjt ratio. Wife has been decluttering house and spent over an hour looking for my bug home bag. Have no idea where she put it so threw another together to use till find the proper one but not too worried as will have to remove again when rest of body protection parts arrive but feel pretty good. Added my box back to toolbox with two woodland camo radar dispersion nets to conceal truck if need to drive off into trees or heavy brush and hide. Will start installing permanent ham radios tomorrow and pull the temporary radio. Am real close to an average.looking truck that is not anything close to average for driving around in the land of "Gucci".

In San Fran, the upper crust (and anyone who wants their car trunk to be intact) is leaving the trunks of cars unlocked/open to keep the trunk/lock from being smashed open according to the crime report I heard a day or two ago. Well, I guess if you want it, work for it, vote for it, support it you will get it. Just make sure it is what you want first!
