Time for me to channel Black Blade for a little minute.

Earth is at risk of catastrophic collapse 'as early as 2025' (msn.com)

Story by Katherine Fidler and Danny Halpin <- these names sound like they belong to the hapless pretty-people Gen-Z moronic investigators that get eaten by Aliens in the first 20 minutes of the movie. That's when I start cheering for the off-world visitors, knowwhatImean?

Professor Ditlevsen said a collapse in the Amoc has not happened for at least 12,000 years and the only available records for finding out what happened then are in ice core samples taken from glaciers. These suggest that when the AMOC did collapse, it caused the average temperature around the North Atlantic to plummet by as much as 15C within a decade.

Translation - he doesn't know shit.
Anyone remember the 70s, when we were going to have a

GLOBAL ICE AGE!?

Asked if human-produced greenhouse gases were weakening the Amoc, Prof Ditlevsen said: ‘It is very unlikely that we’d see changes not seen for 12,000 years just by chance.

“Doublethink means the power of holding two contradictory beliefs in one's mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them.”
― George Orwell, 1984

‘We’re pretty sure that the perturbation we are doing with the emissions of greenhouse gasses is the single most important cause.’

Professor Penny Holliday, head of marine physics and ocean circulation at the National Oceanography Centre in Southampton, described the Amoc’s collapse as a ‘high impact, low likelihood scenario’ and that decades worth of observations would be needed to identify a tipping point.

If playing Army for too long taught me anything, it's that you can excrete total nonsense but make it more believable with maps. Because maps are cool.

Red are DNC weather efforts that morph into Blue (GOP) weather efforts.

I'm conflicted - this garbage is entertaining to dissect, but these people need to be Fargo woodchippered.

Its always fun when the "warm surface current" passes under the "cold saline deep current".
Isn't that where rogue waves are born?

Apparently the good Professor has never heard of cycles, and the other schmuck who thinks we can come to conclusions about a 12,000 year cycle with decades of observation is, a schmuck.

Here she is, pondering about pandering.
Again, how significant is one vowel.

And, just because I'm an asshole.......
and every thread needs drift.

Look, we are Pacifically talking about the Atlantic Current and how it might stop Atlanticing here, take your pro-POC propaganda elsewhere, comrade.

That current has been running AMOC for millennia and it's time for it to be rained in.

Edit to add: It's for the children.

Lead author Professor Peter Ditlevsen, of the University of Copenhagen, said he was ‘pretty alarmed’ by the results, but [back peddling begins] that there is still a wide degree of uncertainty of when a collapse would occur and how fast its consequences would take hold. [back peddling ends]

I got the sense that Ditlevsen was channeling a scientician, as interviewed here - the only reason his name being in the article is to add some fake legitimacy to what's otherwise alarmist fluffing.

Did they not make a disaster movie about this around 15 years ago?????
Yes, and it took less than an hour for the whole Northern Hemisphere to be under 40 feet of snow, one of the supporting actors to fall to his death, and the survivors to seek asylum in Mexico.
I ain't looking forward to that shit.

Well, it gave me a semi, so he's pretty good at it.
