Gotta love dog threads! I miss mine dearly.
You do know, you can never replace your dog, but there are other great dogs out there, that just want a chance to show us how much they can love. Only you know the answer for you, but that's been working for me and a whole slew of good dogs over the years.

I agree 100%, my ex kept my two. Years later with life in a better place now I would love to have another pup or two. Sadly the new wife is seriously allergic.

Thankfully all the neighborhood dogs seem to know I keep a box of treats behind the door. They get a snack and I get to pet them for a moment when they are out on a walk. Win win.

Molly our 16yo Chiweenie rescue passed a week ago, she was the best little girl and will be greatly missed

Our condolences. Our chiweenie, Peanut, passed on a few years ago. He was my cast iron, bullet proof dog, well, until the day he wasn't. Sigh.

While this is a great photo I believe it conveys the wrong message. And whilst I realize I am mostly preaching to the choir here this is for those just viewing the thread ocassionally and not the regulars.
Many people don't realize the commitment any pet requires. Some require more than others and while not top of the maintenance list a dog dooes require a fair amount (plus$$).
So don't get a pet because of some heart-pulling picture, get a pet only if you have the capabilities/resources/desire/stamina/etc.

Here's one of my friend's nwew pups. She went from Pyrs (still has four) to two Bernese to keep the thread going. Hard to get good photos as they won't stay still as pups are wont to do.

We put cat-dog down this morning. She was a Maine Coon cat, once 18lbs, that my wife had for 15 years. Cat-dog, as I called her, thought she was a Lab. About as dumb and dedicated as one too. Despite the massive claws and paws, she was a gentle giant. Never climbed on the table or counters either. Just always had to sit on everyone. Not a dog, but she acted like one and was treated like one.

It’s a tough loss. She was ready when we took her to the vet. She knew. She’d had enough. Sad saying goodbye.

I’ve been involved in rescue for as long as I can remember. I can’t count the number of times I’ve went to homes, ranging from big houses on the lake to shacks in the woods, picking up a puppy that was got on impulse.
You are correct.
I’ve got 8 sitting on the couch with me right now that people surrendered. IMG_0719.jpeg
