Hi Guys,

I am a bit new here, but just wanted to ask a general question for you Woo owners. I just got a DR200 recently and I am having a local machinist/gunsmith make a DR200 1x7 16inch barrel out of a blank. Would anyone else have interest in this? I will post pics and progress as it get done. Just wondering if there is a market for that.

Thanks,

Dale

I'm sure cost will determine interest. If that is reasonable I would think a lot of people would / should be hot for one.
I'd be interested in knowing how it goes.

Looking back thru older posts there has definitely been interest in a faster twist barrel option for DR-200 owners. Something in the 1 in 8" range would be perfect.
I'd certainly be interested if the quality of the barrel blank was above average.
I wouldn't if we're talking about Bear Creek Arsenal/Radical Firearms level barrels.
Please keep us apprised on your progress.

Will be dropping it off today and I will discuss on what and where he sources his blanks. I know for his own stuff he uses shilen match, but yeah I dont think I need or want that for the woo. I did also ask him to look at possibly making a solid machined charging handle, as i have seen some people requesting that as well.

Thanks,

Dale

Build is coming along. I will post some pics soon. New Barrels will have to reuse Original Barrel extension, due the extension being proprietary and is actually longer than an AR15 Barrel extension. I am building mine with a 16inch 1x7, however Can probably do a 18inch if you want the original length.

Just how bad are the Bear Creek barrels?
Not good at all.
No sense wasting all this time and effort when the barrel is most likely going to be sub par.
For an undertaking like this I want a barrel from a manufacturer with a solid reputation since this isn't the sort of project that typically offers a money back guarantee for a barrel that won't group.
Shilen is very good...Green Mountain is average.
I'd prefer Ballistic Advantage or Faxon but I understand the need to keep price down on a specialty build such as this that most likely won't be used in a precision shooting situation.

Okay so another update. Previously we had thought you would have to use original Barrel extension since Daewoo's is a bit different. However with some additional machining modification to normal AR barrel extension we are able to get it rotate fully and lockup as original. So barrels will be complete drop in, cept for gas block holes will not be predrilled do to every gun not being 100% the same. Here are some pics of AR barrel extension in the woo.

That looks great!
Really good news to hear that the original barrel extension can stay on the factory 1/12" barrel. Easy to return it back to stock if one wanted to.
This is turning into a pretty cool project.
Anyone know what the gas block hole diameter is on a factory barrel?
Be nice to drill it a bit smaller for those of us running suppressors on these new barrels.

FYI hole in OG barrel pin gauges at .101 And the gas port hole in the gas block is .139

Thanks for the useful information!
Went straight into my Daewoo Info folder.
A .101 factory gas hole on an 18" barrel with lots of dwell time...no wonder Daewoo's throw brass into low earth orbit.

Some more progress. Pictures of the custom AR barrel extensions. First run of barrels will be a limited 10 barrel run chambered in 556. However we are toying with the idea of other calibers... anyone interested in a 300 blackout??

They look fantastic!
I'm interested in a 14" barrel, threaded 1/2x28, 1 in 7" twist, with factory contour and finish.
My 16" is good...I figure an e-filed SBR 14" will be that much better.

Icer when we are ready to go production on the barrels, I will post(I will take my build to the range shooting to make sure they are proper). Hit me up if your serious about a 14inch, I am pretty sure we can do that. Still not sure on pricing but will have something soon.

Once everything gets sorted out just get me the details on the barrel and if they match what I'm looking for I'll send the cash. :D
I want to do another cut down DR-200 and this barrel sounds like it checks all the boxes.

Now I'm confused. I thought that the earlier picture showed that you were turning the collar off the AR-15 barrel extension and a new collar was being formed on the barrel blank itself to get to the proper length. But now, the new picture shows that you're making barrel extensions of the correct length. Are they being machined from scratch, or? Beautiful work.

cheers,
v
