I don’t think China is bluffing and it’s not looking good over there.

Does anyone think China could survive cutting trade with the United States?

I feel like it may happen but I don’t know.

I love how that ABC article states that Japan is the least known military powerhouse.

apparently they don’t teach WW2 in schools anymore

Yes. They will force their people to live on one bowl of rice and a sardine per day and they will get on with dominating Asia and the Pacific.

meanwhile, people in the U.S. will cry about no Tik-Tok while our economy grinds to a halt.

Japan has internal politics to contend with, and their past history,,,but they have always appeared clear eyed to the world around them.
Norks and China, even South Korea are not, and will never be friends with Japan, too much water went under those bridges,,,so, they quietly have prepared a military, that can be rapidly expanded, and with full capabilities to contend with their threats in the area.

Taiwan, and Japan,,,,,I will never believe, they have not stockpiled a few large firecrackers,,,,,,,,quietly, and ready for use.

Like Israel, they won't ever admit it,,,,,,but,,,,they are not stupid peoples...

China has a huge problem, similar to what Japan had.

Most of the supplies needed to keep the country running need to arrive by sea.

While powerful, China's Navy is not strong enough to achieve naval supremacy - which is needed to ensure that there are no blockades.

No expert here. I know that China is supposed to have lots of new military toys and LOTS of people to feed the meat grinder but have they had any serious applications of their military since the Korean War? Seems to me to be one thing running around doing impressive military exercises but quite another to try that with a capable opposing force. Would think they would make a formidable defensive force but could they project that force anywhere?

I don't know what to think. This way, that way, right, wrong, best, worst. Anything is possible and we won't know until the last round is fired or the last dollar transferred.
Personally I believe China could defeat the US by simply calling in all the money borrowed and squandered by the US and US businesses. "Oh, you can't pay? Now we own you."

That would mean the USA's world wide credit rating would be shit and things would get very, very hard for millions of spoiled Americans who are used to shit costing a fraction of the price it otherwise would if we had to make it in the US. And that covers just about anything that doesn't grow here in the continental US.

That sir is entirely true,,but it saddens me to say this,,,,J is right on this one,,,,,,33 trillion,,,and I've seen ests its actually around 100 trillion, is never going to be repaid by the USA.

The whole worlds current monetary policy, is a giant ponzi scam.

And, as goes the USA, so goes the world.

One day,,,,its all going into default.......Everyone, worldwide.

The paper issued,,,is actually worthless.
Not backed by anything.

Have to slightly disagree. Found a box of stuff from '94 Bought from Walmart and with prices on them. Mostly US made and when I applied inflation, it still came out cheaper than what things are going for now. How about that made in USA and cheaper. Chinese stuff has been inflated in price slowly and surely over the decades. I mean look at harbor freight nowadays, they stick a new tag on their stuff, improve the finish and jack up the price a lot making the buyer think, " Oh they must have improved the quality of this stuff."

You are right. I often ask what the purpose of the illusion is.
One of my favorite radio talking heads says the US needs to tell China we are knocking off a few zeros off the debt number over covid, we've paid it already. He also says Chinese should be banned from owning property and businesses in the US, period. And I fully agree.

The people keeping the illusion alive, are the very same ones, that will be hanged when it all falls apart, and they know it.

Ask yourself,,,what would you do, if sitting around your camp site, and one of these people wondered in, hungry, cold, looking for a handout,,,and you recognized him or her from TV?

Today,,,,,,they can buy and sell, with millions upon millions of dollars people still take for goods and services.

When that all goes away,,,they simply become the grease ball that caused people to be sitting around a campfire, worried about their next meal, after loosing everything they ever worked for.

There is a reason, dictators flee with suitcases of cash when it all falls apart,,,,,if they don't, they get hung.

I also heard that the real reason that Russia & China feel threatened enough to invade these different countries is because that natural resources are becoming so scarce that it will be slim to non much sooner than our governments are telling us.

I am curious, given their lack of citizens’ access to arms, how proficient their infantry might be.

A lot of US military are country boys who grew up around arms. Our spec ops train heavily, the only contingent the rivals the average competitive shooter in proficiency.

Wonder what skills Japanese maintain or how quickly they can develop them.

Japan pretty much follows along the US military training programs on about everything, same type training, delivered in same manner and fashion.

I pushed troops for nearly a year, ugh, and we took people that never held a firearm and got them qualified in fairly quick fashion.
We also trained non gun people in theater, in super fast order, and they did OK.
Firearms simply are not that complicated to learn to use, maintain in a military situations.

A day or two of training, then OJT for the finer points, about all it takes for most people.

Punching paper in high level competitions, is difficult to learn to do well, shooting people, not so hard in my experiences.

Firearms training pretty simple,,,,,learning to set a proper ambush, far more difficult, as well as the hundreds of other things one needs to learn.

Japanese society has been effeminized and has collective guilt from WWII, no doubt imposed by the US occupiers. Their constitution prohibits war/army for example. They have been shielded by the US occupation like Europe has.
Their technological prowess is not bulletproof - for example look at the failure of Mitsubishi SpaceJet. (HondaJet has been a success though). Japan reminds me a lot of the UK, how the government meddles in big companies' projects, which are not defense related.
However we know their societal proclivities make their people good soldiers,
inclined to order and discipline.

I find Japan very culturally interesting and respect it, but like Germany it would have to change to become the former military power it once was.

The way I see it, this thing goes sideways.

But probably not.

Just turn your head 90 degrees, and it will look just straight as normal.

My field of fucks is pretty much barren of any interest in hitting either- even if theys giving it away no matter how it’s slanted.

Well...there is the thing called the pacific so ...'come and take it' could be a bit tough... just a thought.
