My retired hunting & fishing buddy bought one early this year. He has no phone or computer tech skills, so I had to set it up for him and used my own email to make the account. It is fun to see, so the wife bought me the same camera for my birthday which I finally got around to setting up today. Now there are two cams on the same account, so both he & I can see the photos on both of our phones from both cams. It is select-able to view "Johns cam" or Mikes cam" or "both". Pretty dang cool!

How much? Does it alert you that it's been activated? I'd like to put one on my driveway in case someone pushes my gate open and comes in. The opener is not really all that much to defeat.

Grandson has one going here now at a feeding spot in the woods. Takes very good pictures and video. He sends me some of the good ones.

I'm considering getting a couple myself for security purposes.

I think he paid about $100 a piece and he would get six free photos a week… something like that, or he could buy packages for unlimited with more detail.

We use them to watch over some of our remote facilities that have been pilfered for copper and solar equipment. Three arrests have been effected so far.

Price of trail-cam data plans

Mine is a Spypoint brand.
  • 100 pics per are month free
  • 250/mo is $4
  • 1000/mo is $7
  • Unlimited pics is $10/mo
I chose 1,000/mo and see how many I get and how I like it for a couple of months. Adjust as needed.

You can save a buck or two per month by paying it as an annual fee rather than monthly, but I really don't need six months of discs, planters, sprayers, waving corn in a windy day, combines, and trucks showing up on my phone all summer. YMMV.

Interesting trivia but it makes sense......

Yesterday I got a photo from John's cam of him and a friend riding back to his stand on his SxS. Last night I had a couple pics of a racoon and this morning a small buck on my cam. Just now I saw a notification of a new pic from John's cam on my phone, but when I looked, there was no new photo and none of the others from yesterday or this morning. At first I thought something was wrong with my app set-up, then it dawned on me what happened and I called John for verification.

Since we are both on the same account, if either of us deletes a photo, it deletes it from the account, regardless of which camera took the pic. Photos that don't amount to anything (e.g. a raccoon or a scrub buck) John deletes. Not a big deal to me, but it can cause confusion obviously.

Real time?
"Almost" in real time. Now that I have had it a bit and hunting season has started, I have noticed that when deer walk in front of the camera, it takes a couple or three minutes before my phone notification comes in. This is when I am sitting in the stand and watched it all happen live myself.

FWIW, mine is a Spypoint Link-Micro-5-LTE-V and I have 100% full cell signal at the deer stand. My phone is ATT but I have no idea what network the camera uses. We have good Verizon and T-Mobile cell service here also though.

Copy. I'm looking for a security like camera. Deer can't get in the yard so not really worried about that. Nor am I really wanting a surveillance type camera. But think this may be something of use if I'm away and someone comes up the driveway with the gate closed or climbs over the fence. Not wanting something that it's sending pics of squirrels rampaging with the small dogs chasing them

If you are mounting it on or near the house anyway, it has an on/off switch. Can it maybe be enabled/disabled from the app also but I have not looked for that function. It gets 100 pics per month free so for your purpose you can probably get by without a monthly bill if you are can remember to turn it /on/off. Billing rates for this one in post 10 above.

On my side of my deer stand I had some saplings of some sort of tree, about a dozen, 6 to 15 foot tall, that still had small green leaves. They really blocked the view that direction. Today just after lunch I went back out to there with a chainsaw and fixed that problem. While I was down there, I had a "brilliant idea" to give my buddy sharing the cell cam account a photo of a "big buck" on my camera. :)
