Carhartt recommendation

I will be receiving a Carhart jacket and trousers combination, at no cost to me, I’m not quite sure what to get. Western Oklahoma is not very cold, but it can be kind of wet, so I don’t want that thick, heavy cotton duck stuff, so what would be a good combination to wear out here it’s nice and soft, but still water proof? None of that orange or yellow stuff either. Just something good at moderate cold temperatures will keep me dry & looking presentable. Getting some gloves too. Best recommendations?

I was given a nice pair of insulated overalls for Christmas a few years ago......stiff as board even after several washing and drying cycles......but they're warm when out driving on the tractor in winter.

My wife and I both use Storm Defender jackets when it is cold and wet. It's a little too warm for Summer or warm days in Fall or Spring, but great when it's cool out. For colder weather, an extra layer or two underneath is good. I wear a black one which goes with everything and my wife's is a purplish color. I also have the matching pants, but they do need suspenders to stay up.

For gloves, I'm pretty happy with the Pipeline gloves that come with an inner liner glove that can be used by themselves on milder days.

The lighter weight Rain Defender series jackets and pants are better in warmer weather but are not quite as storm resistant.

That "thick cotton duck" gets softer and more comfortable with some wear and washing. I personally prefer bib type insulated overalls with a jacket. Can take off the jacket and the straps carry the weight of the pants.

The duck is also the last product (apart from some socks and beanies) that are still made in the US.

You sure about that? I quit the brand entirely in mid 90s when it all went to Mexico. I doubt they're even made there anymore.

For the buy American only folks, some styles of Carhart are made offshore. Many of their shirts/flannels are from trade partner nations.

Yes, you posted while I was typing. Read the fine print as they say on their website when you make your order. Mexico, Vietnam, Indonesia are often what you find on the labels. Supposedly though, they are made to Carhartts manufacturing requirements so, there is that. Some of the pocket knives I buy are made in Taiwan though marked China. People want to confuse them with the commies but, not so. Some of those knives are actually very good quality. Just like the products that Carhartt has made offshore.

I go really far out of my way to buy from made in USA or as close to it (Mexico / Canada) if I can’t find it. I often buy used just because it was made in USA. Wore Carhartts coats for decades in construction as they were perfect for oregons climate. Had to wear a rain coat to keep dry as it rains heavy in the west. Still have a couple of coats and sweat shirts like new in the closet...just in case.

I wore carhart riggins for years and years but changed to KEY riggins a few decades ago

Love the riggins as they last a long long time and when not in shorts that's all I wear. Just change suspenders to my newest pair each time I have to wear my sundays best

Still have some carhart - but they succumbed to the woke nonsense in 2022 - that was it! Filson, or any waxed cotton, Iron cloth, Oilskin etc...... Or some Dickies equivalent to the carharts and wax 'em!

My comment... Lycra. This sounds stupid but panty hose over double sets of micro fiber underwear. Then loose poly cotten blend 70.30 and then a waterproof shield. I used to hunt ducks in the down south Texas waters. Knee waterproof boots are a must and yke sure you have bands to keep the water our. Good Luck... Honestly... the suffering is the journey.

I have a bunch of olf Carhartt I got years ago and still use. Bib overalls, insulated pants, zippered heavy hooded jacket, and a non hooded jacket.
Allofitis old as dirt, and in the winter is all I wear.
IExcept for a couple dark brown items, it’s all that tan color like I’m wearing in my avatar, and is the toughest, warmest, most comfortable outdoor clothing I own. Period.
But it’s all stuffi bought years back before all the idiocy started. I’m not sure I’d buy new anymore. This woke shit is just too much.

I had two jackets - one with hood, one without. The hood has elastic cuffs, the other not. Loved the hood when it was windy cold. Weak point on the snap cuff one was the cuffs, they wore out first. But I wore it for 10 years so maybe I'm not being fair.
