I have a SUIT sight related query.
I have exhaustively searched the internet without result.

I have a sight that appears to be an L2A2 SUIT sight.
The only differences are:
No Trilux unit on top
Fitting for a side mounted device that MAY be a Trilux unit but is missing.

Covered with repro label.
Mounts to FAL top cover with a slightly different bracket without “serpentine “ spring.

What I found so far:
It is not a SUSAT sight
It is not a Soviet IP29
It is too well made to be a repro or Airsoft I think.
Optics are clear with correct pointer .
It appears to be a “mirror image “ of a SUIT sight in construction.
It has no serial number.
The top cover (dust cover) on which the sight base mounts does not have the
2 tabs inside the rear end which matches the cutouts in the L1A1 receiver.
The FAL does not have these receiver cuts or tabs.

Best guess so far is that it is a prototype that had a side mounted trilux unit
or some kind of Israeli variant with the same modification.
It has a WD “Broad Arrow” on sight and mount but this could be faked.

Can anyone help ?
I have sent enquiries to the Royal Armouries collection which mentions in passing an “experimental”
SUIT sight but no photo. Also to Fort Halstead in Kent, Which carried out research and development on military equipment. No response yet.

Can anyone help ?

Many thanks.
Steve

Member Skiprat is a forum expert on SUIT sights.
Also member brownknees has a lot of knowledge on SUITs.

You might want to contact one of them.

Hi Arby.
I have tried to start a conversation with user SKIPRAT . I await an answer.

I have tried to start a conversation with user BROWNKNEES but the Forum
software says “OOPS you can’t start a conversation with Brownknees”.
I don’t know why. Maybe a block ?

Thanks for your help.

the top cover mount is also "cobbled" together Metric top cover , early (or IWS) bridge , later "T" bracket ,, I believe both the mount and sight were made by an ex British Armourer that is no longer with us ,

Thanks Skiprat . The bad news I dreaded. Caveat Emptor I suppose but since the dealer swore it was a SUIT sight it’s going back !
I didn’t see past the downward sight element at first , then things started to smell fishy !
Thanks for your help .
I’m going to put the money towards a Genuine SUIT sight.

This gun dealer wouldn’t have been Anthony Buckland ?

Cheers

Hi Skiprat. Thanks for the offer of a SUIT sight.
Where are you based ?
What sort of condition are the optics ?
(Us Brits used to give them a right bashing)
How much do you want for it ?
Any photos ?

Thanks for the help in ID ing this scope.

There is a British guy on ebay still selling these but doesn’t call it a SUIT sight now.

All the best.

Sorry to hear about the crap you've been through.

I have two Brits and I only need one. I you decide to look for another, let me know.
Thanks Mhobtr.
I don’t know if you will be allowed to ship military gear to the U.K. from the U.S.

ITAR and all that . Think optics might be OK.
Got a price and some photos ?
Thanks

He did a nice line in dummy FAL gas pistons and cylinders in aluminium and plastic.
His Wife was lovely. I spoke to her as she was closing down his business.

Once again, thanks for your help.
Cheers

Didn't notice your location so we wouldn't be able to make a deal. Looks like these are getting harder to find, I would probably ask $1200 for the one I would sell.

Thanks for coming back Mhobtr.

It probably wouldn’t make it past U.S. Customs.
Good luck selling it.
I’ll probably find one in the U.K.
Regards
Steve
