Axe throwing

Does anyone throw either at home or at an axe throwing venue? My Wife and her shop went the other day for team building and since I was free I tagged along to watch, they got to throw for an hour plus an introduction class on how to throw.
They had a blast and now that we are retired we are going to start doing it ourselves either at home or at a venue not to far from our new house in SV.

My wife is an experienced axe thrower.

The house she grew up in had a log section (cookie) on a wooden stand in the back yard for practice.

She was taught by a bunch of French & Indian War reenactors at rendezvous when my inlaws dragged her along as a kid.

She basically grew up in a canvas tent, camping with her folks, every weekend.

Her daddy was a founding member of the Jackson County Anti Horse and Mule Thief Association.
He turned 88 last week and still going strong.

When i fought heavy combat in the SCA i fiight with axe & mace. I can hurl an axe with lethal force and accuracy. Been a thrown weapons / Siege weapons fighter for over 30 years.

My kid has gotten pretty good at this, tween the 2 of us I've had to rebuild our target several times now. Not the most efficient method of making kindling but it's more fun the most..

Yes, at home and years of living history events, mostly 1700's era. My wife and I both throw, tomahawks more than knives. I've been working on knives a bit more recently. Hawk and knife is always a competition category at the rendezvous.

Track of the Wolf has lots of throwing axes to choose from. 2Hawks makes nice ones, a bit more pricey, but very nice!
I recently bought a Flying Fox from Council Tools too. It's a great camp axe, but was actually designed by them for the new axe league competitions.
It's great fun, hope you and your wife enjoy it.

Did it once. Once you learn the distance and rotations it really just becomes like throwing darts. We only did it at one distance and as soon as you get the hang of it, you almost never miss sticking it. It then just comes down to how accurate you can get. I assume if the distance changed it would take a similar amount of time to figure it out again.

It was kinda fun.

I can recall in single digit years watching "Daniel Boone" on TV.

I can recall getting Dad's ax out and trying to throw it at a tree with no success.

I can recall getting a VERY negative reaction from Dad about his broken ax handle.

Apparently ax-throwing is not in my skill-set. Yall have fun.

My old time sport was what is depicted in the picture behind you. Commercially with a crew and farm flocking for about 20 years. But I too have also thrown hawks and knives. It is fun.

We have been throwing hand axes (hatchets) it for 15 years or so now. We have gotten pretty good at "upcycling" structural lumber leftovers into targets. Its a fun backyard activity as long as you have a good surface behind it to catch stray throws.

Did it a few weeks ago here in MT. We were out of town for our son's basketball tournament and all of us parents ended up in a bar one evening that featured axe throwing. Beer and axes. What could go wrong?

My first throw stuck in the bullseye, and as Tak said, once you get the distance dialed in, it's pretty easy. We all had a blast!

I used to throw bo-shuriken. We made them out of big nails. Still have them but just want to hold hands with gurls now and not throw anything.

We did axe/hatchet throwing with the church youth and scout groups. I built some targets last summer out of 30" pine slices with lashed tripod stands. Tried an assortment of different readily available hatchets. The $7.99 Harbor freight ones held up as well as any and threw well. Fiskars were a lot easier for smaller kids to use but cost 4 times more. One of the older boys could make a full size 3.5 pound axe stick reliably.

Once the kids figured out the distance/rotation thing, most could stick them consistently.
