Local shop has a 30-06 ADL with pressed basketweave stock. Metal is speckled and rough (some Hoppes and bronze wool would go far), bore is probably just dirty, possibly rusty, stock is chipped and scratched. It's adorned with some manner of $25 junk scope and equally inadequate mounts. Tag says $500 but will take $475. Am I out of touch to think this is a $400 rifle? To me it looks like a LA receiver, bolt, trigger.

Yup, I got the 2 piece chicken tenders kid's meal in town and in was $7.50.
$12 for a Whopper, fries and a drink today.

Kind of shady neighborhood, although that BK does at least have a serve-yourself ketchup pump in the dining area. That's usually a good sign. But offset by a black-and-white printout taped to the main entrance door. The sign depicted some indigenous populant standing at the counter. Caption on sign read: "Call POLICE immediately if you see this man."

The signage on the door affirmed my belief that I was not being overly cautious that I armed-up before entering. Buck 110 in left pocket. Model 442 in right pocket. Meat cleaver in back pocket. Extra handguns and long guns and a machete in the car. Sun was still up, and was dinner time. So some families in the joint, and a few weirdos on the wi-fi. I lived.

If someone offered me an orphaned 700 for a bit high price, I might have bought it.

Dude here you get a mini whopper fries and drink for $6.00. That shit is garbage but will feed you. I normally just get the double cheese burger for about $3.25 and it fills me up although it digests like I ate cardboard soaked in cheese and grease

Everything's gotten stupid expensive; especially guns. I went to a gun show a few months ago and guy wanted $800 for a sporterized Winchester Garand with a scope mount welded onto the receiver. Same table has non-German Mausers for $700-$900.

Everything was expensive, even the junk. It was amazing.

You say that like its a bad thing.

I'll ponder it while I'm having my morning glory tomorrow. Usually I just hum a few bars of "Deuce"

Wife is gone for the next couple of weeks. I've cooked almost 2 lbs of bacon the last couple of nights for sammiches. Need to finish the strawberry cheesecake before I get into the chocolate ice cream.

Pizza pretzel for $1.80 and frozen yogurt for $1 at Sam's.

I only stop at fast food joints if I am on the road, really hungry, and nothing else is available. And never at McDonald's.

The Ruger with the skeleton stock is fetching silly prices.

Normal gun shop Remington pre Bankruptcy stuff is pricey, they act like old Remmy and Marlin are PreWar Colts.

Oh wait I’m not thinking right, it’s inflation, the guns aren’t expensive it’s just our dollar isn’t worth anything.

Buy a Howa instead OR
just the barreled action from Brownells, unless it’s gotta be a Rem700.

Used deals can still be found, I just bought a Nosler 48 Professional from a Chain store consignment rack.
20 inch PacNor
Rifle Basix trigger
.308
Kevlar Aluminum blabla stock
seems pretty bombproof.

When I was paying for it a guy was bringing in a Tikka T3 and asking shop to buy it.
.300 WM tho..

This shop is high desert at the south end of a mountain highway into prime hunting..
And Jeff Coopers old stomping grounds.
A lot of rifle shooters.

Have it all taken down now. Somehow removed weaver bases and the iron sights without stripping a screw. Metal is "charactered" but I'll strip and slow rust blue it so I'm not concerned for that.

Well, this old girl cleaned up better than I'd have thought. Oiled bronze wool did wonders on the barrel exterior rust. The bluing is light but kept oiled it'll be absolutely OK as-is.

The receiver, on the other hand, looks almost very good. The interior surfaces look hardly used. Exterior is actually very nice for a near 50-yr old hunting rifle.

Dragged a LOT of copper out of the bore but its shiny.

I'm more than pleased with this rifle now that I've detail-cleaned. 1693695465649-2130858307.jpg
