Finally today after getting ahead of all the other truck and irrigation projects, I got to drag project Detroit/Kenworth out of the tractor shed and make some headway on making it run again. Got valves, injectors, jakes and governor linkage set, maybe tommorow I can take it for a cruise.

.....was he herding turtles with that stick ?
We had quite the discussion about that, he demanded to know what my machine settings and technique were. I told him to go get some junk pipe and practice on that and come back in 20 plus years. In the meantime I'll just fix it the first time.
My settings and technique are variable depending on the job, I can change my weld pattern 5 time in 1 inch of weld. It's all about experience.

I thought somebody had to use rebar 'cause they ran out of rods.
Somewhere in the You tube universe is a video of an outfit (probably chinese) using a semi automated process with 3/4" coated rods at 1500 amps to weld heavy plate. Seems counter-intuitive to me after seeing a multi wire (5/64") submerged arc head welding plate without stopping at 1800.

When I was just out of high school a buddy's family had a Super 1048 with a blown engine... We dropped a 390 4barrel in it. That puppy could move out. I think they went to an NP 5 speed too.

It’s plenty fast enough with 40 year old tires and drum brakes. It has driven through barn a few times. I have been told it will run 50 flat out, I believe him. I have never been brave enough to get it out of third. He as two one has a 390 out of a pickup with a 4 barrel.
