DSArms out of receivers and no ETA on return ...FML

This is the word from Mike at DSA today-

Receivers... should have another batch by the end of September. The secondaries and heat treat lag time kills us on these.

Both receivers and barrels though will be a continuous production item as long as the demand exists."
Thank you sir for that, just got a pile of cash from college graduation so I figure getting my FAL finished would be nice. The joys of college graduation as an adult with no student loans is I can afford a nice gift for myself now

I received my kit yesterday, ordered last Wednesday.

-All parts are present and accounted for
-Wood is in good shape with no visible cracks or large gouges

Really pleased with the kit and shipping from PSA. The only issue was a little rust on one of the handguard panels, hit it with steel wool and hoping that a little blasting in the cabinet will clean most of it up with very little pitting.

Glad I was able to jump on one of these and that I received it in the condition and completeness I did.

Worth the gamble ladies & gents!

Now the wait for a receiver and barrrel begins.

Question about Proof Marks:

If FN built the initial Izzy's; did they stamp them with Hebrew Proofs or just FN ?

My second kit has several Hebrew stamps but the Bolt has the FN Arrow and the Trigger has an FN 3 sided box/number stamp.

Who stamped what....did FN make any Izzy's purely with FN Proofs, or mix & match ?

I think that Israel sourced a lot of parts from FN, I don’t think they made everything in house.

Towards the end, Israel produced everything except the receivers

My kit arrived today. It's dirty, but it's going to clean up nice. The bolt looked unfired. Stock is dirty but I can tell it's going to clean up exceptionally well. The handguards are worn, but that's indicative of the carried a lot but not used much theme.

Now to toss it in the closet with my Cuban kit to await a receiver. Couldn't be happier with what PSA sent, and I was expecting the worst.

My 3rd kit came with two right side handguards, but the rest looked good. Kit 4 will be here on friday.

Ordered a 3rd kit. Crazy seeing as how I’ve never shot a FAL nor have any experience with them, but the price is just great. I don’t know if I should just keep the two I have and hold onto this one, making that 3 FAL’s or part it or sell it outright? Got my eye on having an underfolder AK to match my Fixed stock Yugo...decisions...

I'm thinking these are a decent store of value other than gold and silver. Stock market/ casino will still give better returns though......in theory/ history has shown.

I received a second Izzy kit from Palmetto today. A quick inventory shows all parts included as described.

Both of my kits have just the right balance of character in terms of cosmetic wear and tear and serviceability. Not much wear and tear on moving parts, no rust, and appropriate dents, dings, and scratches.

Unboxing FAL kits is always a treat!

I wouldn't put forty cents into this artificially inflated market and certainly wouldn't help support a casino, but yeah, these kits are like money in the bank(or better). Just opened my #3 and #4 and they're both excellent. Just like #1 and #2. All of my lowers look like they have a deep, dark blue/black under the grime with no wear at all. They look better than anything I see in this thread. All four stock sets are near perfect,.....handguard #3 has a small pinky finger sized gouge but I hate new looking wood on surplus anyway. Absolutely no cracks or gouges or deep scratches otherwise. Kit #4 finally gave me something to gripe about. The hinge washer looks like it was once soldered to something,....two small blobs of material squished flat 180 degrees opposed. Still just barely fits in the pin depression and it's hidden so I'm not sending the kit back(kidding). To offset the defaced washer they included a second combo device so I guess that's a win.

My only complaint is that all four kits are WAY better than I expected or even hoped for, but they're all exactly the same. I was kinda hoping for some crap along with a special rare piece or two,.....willing to roll the dice for some variability,....but nope. Just four perfectly buildable kits all the same. No A lowers or B stocks or open-eared gas blocks. Poor poor pitiful me.

I know it. I was hoping for one type A with a double marked lower at least. 5 of them are the later ones with combo devices and really nice original finish on them. They have horizontal take down levers and no dents in the recoil plates. One is older with serial numbered lower and vertical take down lever with no combo device. Overall very happy with my kit’s.

Got my third (3rd) Kit in yesterday....and two (2) more on the way.

What a disappointment, what a piece of shite !!!

The packing box had 3 big holes in it and the Joint Pin Washer was in the bottom of the box.
The mating half was missing, so I assume it's in the back of a UPS truck, somewhere between Austin, Tx and S. Carolina (?).
While there were no visible cracks in the HG's; they have deep gouges as does the Butt Stock.
I will say the Smalls were all in decent shape.
The biggest problem and reason for my request to return for credit, is the Pivot Screw Bracket on the Lower looked like someone had taken a 5 lb Lump Hammer to it...bent beyond belief (see pics in link).

I called PSA & explained the problem.
I must say, they were very gracious about it and accepted my request to return the Kit.
Since they do not offer 'replacements', they give you credit on your CC account.
As such, I have to re-order on-line for a replacement...they told me they still had plenty of Kits in stock.

Hopefully the 2 Kits I have coming in and the replacement I have ordered, will fair a little better ???
Graham.

My pivot bracket looked the same (not quite as bent) on my 2nd kit and I bent it back with a crescent and pliers..hopefully it functions. I am getting a 3rd kit tomorrow..hopefully it doesn’t come like that either..

ImageHello guys, this is my first time building an FAL, does anyone know if there is like an online class or book showing how to assemble the Israeli FAL? Im looking to get into building them just don't know where to start. My parts kit came a few days ago and I am having difficulty posting a picture of them on this website. Any advice is welcome. Thanks for your time!

Go to the ARS web site, Arizona Response System, Mark has a how to, books and CD.

Me, I just shove all the parts in a large box, send them to him, and a while later, a nice rifle appears here at the house.

I looked on his website and only found an article on how to assemble the gas block. I really want to learn how to build this thing, but sending it to ARS is my last resort option. Anyone have other suggestions?

I guess I missed it on there, aprreciate it. I will most likely buy this when the DSA barrel and reciever come back in stock. This guide will work for the Israeli FAL too right?

Its really detailed, I have it, actually used it to put a lower together, and had zero idea beforehand what I was doing, and it worked when I tested it.

What he said !!
Amazing how that works !!

However, I am thinking about building my own....I see no reason not to, I have all the required tools, plus some.
My issue has been my health etc; I couldn't get to my Vice in the garage, or spend much time out there.
Aside from my little work bench in the house, I have limited space, which my wife graciously allowed me to have.
In order to hide all my (parts) boxes, she even went to the trouble of finding an old Chest of Drawers....with 3 large drawers.
It's 40" x 18" with ample drawer space for Barrels, Receivers, Furniture & Mics; parts etc:

Suddenly 'The Penny Dropped', why not put a Vice inside the house and bolt it to the top of the chest of drawers.
Being an old piece of furniture, it's made from 'real' wood, not chip board crap or MDF and has a solid top. The top is also screwed down to another board below, which in total is almost 2" thick.

My garage vice is a bit of a cheapo, 4" cast iron from Home Cheapo IIRC:

I'm looking at this one from Home Cheapo....$150 for a 4" Drop Forged Steel.
Darn good price for Forged !!

I suppose it might be possible with enough weight in the chest, but I'm not seeing that work unless bolted to the floor. YMMV.

YEs, pretty much all FALs and L1A1s will assemble the same. Most of the differences between metric FALs are simply cosmetic.
