The optic of using them now is not worth it - especially considering all the other high-tech options that exist 60 years later.

I'm convinced that the biggest weapon being used, and which we don't see at all, is the DATA-HARVEST weapon.
The nerds have to be jerking themselves raw over the torrent of data files that are being generated behind all these events.
What they do with it will be even less conspicuous, but still probably highly effective.
