YOU MUST REGISTER A NEW ACCOUNT

Post by Jen »

No user accounts have been transferred from the old sites. You MUST register a new account

1. Please use your original board username
2. Please use a different password than you originally had - We were hacked, and while we don't believe the databases were compromised, why take that chance?
3. If another member just happens to have your username on the other board - Add and AK or FAL in front of your username so we all know which user you are.
4. This is TEMPORARY - We are working to get the site back up, but since this is a significant outage, I am taking this opportunity to upgrade the servers and the board software.

Oops.... Too late Jen... I created this account before you made this thread, so I'm not using my original screen name. Sorry...

Yea, I also read this after I re registered. But I had been asking to change my name for YEARS being it was the name of my now defunct business and a painful reminder of how bad I am at being my own boss. Cool boss, just really low productivity.

Will this registration work when the regular site is stood back up? Are we going to have to register again?

so will our contributor status prevail or was that lost too ?
if lost, you will have many angry members Jen

a suggestion
dont try to "improve" the configuration of your sites
every time some one does that boards implode

most recent example was what Frank did to Subguns
before that the reboot of Strumgeweher
I can give at least a dozen more examples

in not one case has a massive change resulted in increased traffic

No status will be lost (Jen makes regular backups of the board)

If you guys would read her megathread here, all will be explained.

Will peoples signature pictures still be there when the new forums is up & running? Not overly important, just curious is all.

Your account (and its settings) should be the way you left it.

(Depending on the path Jen takes)

If you were previously registered before the crash then you should still be registered.

Well.. we can keep the old software and just get hacked again... not really an option imho.

The board software may change, but the goal is to keepbas much of everything as we had previously. The biggest hurdle isn't contributor status but the trader feedback system ratings. Still researching if/how we can retain what's there. Everything else is fairly easy to migrate to a new version or new software.

Just archive the old site, including user-ratings, to read-only.

Let users post a hotlink in their signature line on the new board to their old user-feedback page if they care about such things.
Further, if the user keeps the same user-name in the new board, even a slow-learner can look at the archived board to study old feedback ratings. If they really care about such things.

That is an option on the table, but I would prefer to be able to migrate it all, or at least the +/0/- portion. Again, there are multiple ways to approach this.

Please don't let the new software be PHPBB...

 it won't be, this was just the quickest option to put a temporary forum up until I can get the backups pulled and start migrating things.

That's 2 firsts in a 24-hour period, then. Good job using punctuation and proper spelling.

The computer is better with a working spell check.

I can finally stream movies and stuff.
The big TV I bought now has more than The Rifleman rerun's.

But seriously I get internet get the computer booted up and no AK files. I was like WTF for two days.
