Who's Seen the Comet?

Post by K. Funk »

I was out tonight, pretty clear. Visible to the naked eye below the big dipper in the northwest sky.

I saw it last night but it is right on the edge of the sun's reminants plus some clouds passing thru. If I wasn't looking for it I wouldn't have noticed the tail.

Saw it the last two nights, pretty visible with the naked eye but nicer view with binocs once you find it. Tonight was a little hazy with some high level clouds so last night was better.

Too much light pollution where I am, despite being rural. We're gonna drive away from town this weekend and try to get a view. All I have are some nice Nikon binocs and a mediocre 5" Meade reflector.

There's a few but haven't seen any of them. If you have a DSLR or good at film there are battery operated sky trackers that you line up with Polaris then your camera always stays on the rotation of the earth so the stars don't move in the cameras view. Sky-Watcher makes a $300+ with different options. I found a basic one for $100. Biggest problem is clouds here. At night the heat going away lets the clouds drift over the ridge even if it was a clear day.

There's plenty of info online chasing photos of objects. Cameras these days let you get pictures of stuff you wouldn't believe with only a camera. Even in cities with lots of lights the filters available if picking the right ones pull out lots of sky objects. Then there is the clouds can ruin nights of taking pictures like you wouldn't believe till trying. On a phone Sky Guide gives good ideas on where things are.

I understand its yellow white tail triggered antifa and blm zealots so they took it down out of the sky with their sincere prayers to the demonic realm.

But for those who missed it at Stonehenge here's a staggering view: https://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap200714.html

Otherwise I've seen it around the house during cleaning sessions!
