Probably couldn't drive tack up Musk's ass with a sledge hammer right now.

Fixing to dump the trunk. Live coverage also on C-Span.
Re: Dragon capsule return
The Science Channel has pre-empted my usual Sunday of How It's Made for this. While I'm all about advancing space travel, I don't know that this event is worth losing How It's Made playing in the background as I putz around my house.

Re: Dragon capsule return
2020 has been a shitstorm, but the USA has gotten back to going to space and returning with our own hardware. Hell Yeah.
Re: Dragon capsule return
The Karen announcer is annoying.
Re: Dragon capsule return
If you haven't seen every episode of how its made by now.......
Further, its far more important than a re-run.

Doubtful. Takes thousands of people to design and build the dang thing. Elon just happened to be the top dog of the company. Doubt he turned the first bolt or wrote the first line of code for it. My hats off to the thousands that we will prolly never know the names of.Glockster1 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2020 12:01 amMmmm thanks to Elon Musk right?Battlewagon wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2020 6:51 pm2020 has been a shitstorm, but the USA has gotten back to going to space and returning with our own hardware. I can agree with that. Have no problem with it either. I am glad to see us as a country back in space game and also happy that private enterprise is in the game to the extent it is. I doubt the .Gov has given up the driver seat though. I would like to see that change sometime.Glockster1 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2020 12:14 amOkay then, I'll put it like this so it's easier for you to accept-Battlewagon wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2020 12:12 amDoubtful. Re: Dragon capsule return
Well, NASA has been doing it way longer for sure and with a decent track record by the numbers. I would imagine the "Gov." is sort of happy that someone else is taking the majority of responsibility now.
Free enterprise as you say. So is this all a boon for capitalism, or socialism? Private money and resources going for the greater good?
Who defunded NASA and the space programs anyway?
The US was the tops in the space race. Should never fall behind IMO. But we did. We fell behind in inventions and manufacturing, technology and other things.
Chalk it up to selfish and greedy politicians selling out our nation while drawing a paycheck from the federal government.

You are preaching to the choir Glockster. Nevertheless, still glad to see us back in orbit.
Re: Dragon capsule return
Steve Jobs didn't know much about computer hardware, but drove Apple to where it is today.
Musk may not be a hands-on engineer or physicist, but he knows how to choose good people and guide them to success.

You guys really do believe this nonsense don't you? Elon Musk, NASA, CGI images. That's cute an all, but wake the fuck up!
Re: Dragon capsule return
It's crazy I live right around the corner from SpaceX.
Thinking about applying there.

Re: Dragon capsule return
I remember the first mission of the space shuttle. I think the crew was John Crippen and Bob Young.
We had to relearn how to do the capsule thing, although the Russians do it routinely. It's kind of a reminder of the passage of time and that there's nothing new but what is forgotten. We had a space station in the 1970s and sent people back and forth.
