My youngest son bought this probably 15 years ago because it was cheap, but never really had an interest in it. Now he needs room in his gun safe.
I don't know enough about Mosins to even say who made it or the model, let alone describe it properly or know what to ask for it. It has the bayonet and cleaning rod. Beyond that, I am lost.
Any advice on what it is, what it is worth, and what details or photos I need to properly make a WTS ad or go to Gonebroker would be much appreciated.
M44.... cool gun and I bought 2 from J&G or similar 5+ years ago... I think I bought them for $200 each sold them for 350 each right before the election...
I mention that to give you a little insight into how much Mosin's have gone up in price. Check gunjoker to get an idea... I sold off my m44's, mosin and a couple k in spam cans right after the 16 election to get a grail rifle.
It's a fun boomstick and causes flinches all around at outdoor ranges... Here in NC the market is retard saturated and I've pretty much given up trying to sell stuff locally.. time wasters and people wanting to get stuff for nuttin... put it online and it sells for 2x what they are willing to pay.
I'm no expert on Mosins, like the SKS which plant it was made in, markings etc matter but M44's were often rebuilds off of regular mosins, cut down etc.
Someone will chime in and give more detailed info but my advice would be to put it on gunjoker w/ a couple more pics and let the buyers figure it out...
Pretty good looking m44 from r guns
Hows the rifling? the crown?
Seems to not have been molested, no pitting no frosting, keep it that way, no refinishing, no mods just keep it og.
I say if everything is solid 375-425?

I have owned 2X 1943 Izhevsk M91/30's. One I bought 9 years ago for $150 and sat on it for a while and flipped it for $400 like a year and a half ago. The other one I bought last month in a local pawn shop. Again a 1943 Izhevsk and again for $150 (which was a screaming deal for the same price I paid 8 years ago). I again flipped it for $400 to a local guy. GunJoker prices for that particular year/model are between $350 - $500 which is downright nutty, IMO.
The carbines w/the folding bayo like you got there I think go for more on average.
You have to GB it if you want to get rid of it like others have said. I have 4 left, all bought from the former SOG. Most I paid was 119 I believe. Maybe a little more for one of the high end models I got. I can’t believe what they are going for now when you find them at the regular establishments. My advice would be to hold on to it unless he is really strapped for cash. It’s a great piece of history and he may just have an interest in 5 years.
I know one thing about mosins, they kick like hell with that metal buttplate. I got a polish one from the early 50’s that’s straight from the factory (well about 10 rounds through it).
If your not starving or hurting for hospital money or something there’s no way I would get rid of it.
I know SOG sent me several free when I was ordering all the surplus stuff back in the 80's .. They were selling for maybe $20.00/$30.00 each .. I gave all mine away and let someone else clean the stupid things ..
15 years ago that thing was a $49 rifle at BIG 5 sporting goods.
In today's market that is a $350 to $550 rifle.
Gunbroker it.
I was unemployed,
Had no money or squeaking by 17 years ago when they were this cheap at Military Surplus Guns In Dallas.... Hindsight 20/20, shoulda bought the whole barrel of them in the store...
Got mine for 125 ea 10 years ago at cabelas....

Me personally... I'd sell it and buy gold/silver. or canned goods and ammo...
We are in what is known as a Transitory Period... never before have the "poors' been collectors of things of value. Sure stamps, coins or other inexpensive industrial items... still playing by the rules of the last 50 years?
With the race to Equality... take a look around and ask how many SE Asians or Africans are collecting expensive items of little practical/industrial use?
Never bought the carbine but it was on my list for a long time. You know how it goes, just a few more things to take care of and this is next. Never happened.
I've poked a lot of fun at you AK guys during our forced "vacation" together, and most have poked back in a fun way. Not all, but most.
(Ya'll have some real "doozies over there, but so do we on the other side).
I really do appreciate the info on the boy's Mosin from you guys. The "com block" stuff is just not in my interests and at least not prevalent on the FAL side, but hey if it is a gun and you guys like it, good on ya!
I'd say $350-$400. It's a M 44 carbine made in 1944. That one is in great shape so it should sell quick. Before you sell it shoot it at night and watch the orange pumpkin come out of the muzzle.
Yes, it's a 1944 Izhevsk M44. No, M44s were NEVER made from cut down 91/30s as previously stated.
That's a nice example of the most common year.
M91/30 were cut down into m91/59 though, which are essentially an m44 with no bayonet asy(same as the m38) They even left the longer rear sight on the m91/59.
I pieced 4 back together for about $50 each years back when a guy gave me 4 barreled receiver's free when I bought some other stuff on GB .
Today a all original numbers matching one is bringing good money .
