I could have written this post myself. My mom is literally unrecognizeable from the person she was 10 years ago. Bitter and spitting venom constantly about southerners, Christians and other white people. Some of it is age as she will be 70 this year but this kind of anger is not good for her or me.

Damn I’m lucky relative to some of you all. My parents were never politically vocal as a kid and now as an adult I’d say they lean conservative and more than anything they’re realists and see shit for what it is.

A few years back when I met my son in laws mother at a restaurant for the first time right before the wedding to my daughter, she lives in Connecticut ( need I say more ).

I knew where this was going when she asked what I do for hobbies to which I said ( I play with assault rifles that make liberals cry ). She looked at me like I was the lowest form of life on earth and hasn't spoken to me since.

I've been converting her son to a shooter and gun owner since then.

My folks are the opposites of many of yours. My folks are old school conservative. Quiet about it but don't put up with anything. My aunt loves to go to liberal cities, wreak havoc and have half the place rioting for their liberal ideal then leave. She gets entire restaurants into giant political arguments. She makes me look pretty quiet. My sister finally got off her liberal kick and is now turning into a gun toting redneck nicely. She said no guns around, for, etc with her kid so I got him a belt fed need gun for his 5th birthday. He strafes the dog in the hallway. He now has his own little 22 a few years later.

I’ve got a couple of examples. A good friend of mine who’ve I’ve been friends with for 40 years has worked his way up to president of a large local trade union. I’ve hunted and target shot with him, fished, rode Harleys and partied hard back in the day. But he is so anti Republican I can’t hardly stand to be around him any more. He’s drank the Union kool aid for so long, he’s beyond help.
I also live in an area with a large Irish Catholic population. They are die hard dems. My insurance agent is among them. I was talking to him in early March right before the WuFlu hit and all he kept talking about was Trump cut this and he screwed over this. They really believe their party is still run by JFK and it’s being dissed by the R’s.
There is no changing their views.

You should point out to them that JFK was further to the right than Reagan. What a difference fewer than 20 years can make.

The sad thing is most people never really paid attention to politics, now there is no sport, no bars etc... people just watch the news channels. Then because they've got a low political awareness quotient, they digest all the don lemon stuff, madcow shit and don't even see an alternative - idiots that sit at home in a state of living fear, and will likely live to regret it all!

I have a couple family members - who were adopted by the wealthiest blue blood progressives in the family - with whom the rest of the family has severed or dramatically scaled back contact with. Considering the household they grew up in and the opportunities they've been afforded in life, the rest of us have had our fill of the constant refrain of "BLM is the way! Fuck white people! All white people are racist! Fuck Drumpf! etc.".

Personally, they're riding too high a horse to disrespect the rest of us like that, particularly since a few, like me, had to earn what we have the hard way.

Both my parents hate commie asshole libtards along with myself and my brother.... however I have a half sister skoo teacher in Palm Springs, CA who is a full blown tard of the highest order. Her husband is an insufferable tard himself... having lapped up every ounce of the CA culture. My brother's son also turned into a tight pants full blown tard.
