Question WTK: Any FALFILES Hams using ECHOLINK?

Hi All;
Seems like a neat idea to be connected to the files & be able to talk to FalFile hams at just about the same time.
They ask for a callsign validation which takes but a few minutes.
I suspect that using broadband or DSL is in order though?
http://www.echolink.org/
Its a freebie which is good.
I used it for a while & it works good, has conference also & yak anywhere around the world for Bubkis(free)

I have it installed, but rarely use it. For one thing, my kids love to yank the microphone out of the computer, and I can never find it.

Mainly used it for the Monday evening survival forum net.

I think echolink gives you demo
I once thought as does Fastback65 does.
If its not real, its not real ham operation but it does serve a purpose in many regards, even if to only help pass the "dulldrums" during low activity down cycles
Even if its just used by local club members on conference set-up when not all members have a radio/antenna, vhf or otherwise

Perhaps we could start a FAL-Net?

Essentially, Echolink is a Voice over internet prototcol, that allows a Ham operator to "link" to a repeater or node anywhere in the world through the internet. You use your sound card a and a mic to "qso" with other hams. We had a local ham move to Bloomfield NM recently and he still checks in on a local net through Echolink. More info here.

Correct, or you can just talk with hams, both(or more than 2) being on a computer, no linking or repeaters involved at all.
I had it running in the background once & got a call from a fellow who went & became an Australian ham, someone I knew from Long Island.
He seen my call-sign listed & gave me a "shout", talked for an enjoyable 2 hours without static, hi!
7trees,
Rich WA2RQY
PS- I am not an expert so I might be off a bit in my explanation
