What!?!? WTF, falfiles.com blocked from Gov't PC but not porn?

I have been able to surf the files and stay sane at work since my new assignment for the past months. Certainly checked out the more scandalous sites on the company PC but the fal files are a no go site now This is outrageous. I have tried for the past week to access the site. Other gun forums work though. Some other scandalous sites don't work as well.

A word of waening. If the company you work for has the ability to block sites, then they can also pull up records of every page you visit either by username or IP.

The blocking hardware we use is an Iprism. You can generate reports such as web sites by catagory, top ten, highest bandwidth user, sort by username etc etc. Its pretty impressive.

Didn't you know that firearms are evil?

Nothing wrong with a little T&A though, as long as it's not kiddie-porn or something immoral like democrats and republicans having sex.

Unless you are gay, you shouldn't have anything against seeing naked women.

Funny how they ban falfiles, but arfcom remains unblocked.

It makes no sense at all. They also block everything from photobucket.com, which really sucks.

loneeagle308,
I'm a peon for the large, overly-bloated bureaucracy that has offices in nearly every county in the country. We have gotten several interesting emails on use of government computers. We are prohibitted from the following types of websites: chat rooms, gambling, auctions, pornography, seditious and rebellious (this is especially funny because anyone who works for the government wants to rebel against the assinine things they are continually doing) and of course, weapons. Appearently a guy looking at firearms or knives is as bad as getting onto My Space and hunting little girls.
We also got an email passed on (DABTL will LOVE this) from the regional offices saying that executive branch employees are considered employees of the president, whomever is in the office, and thus, even though we may not agree with funding or policy, we are "highly discouraged" from speaking out against this as it may be taken that we are speaking in an official capacity. I am thinking that this seems to say we need to tout the party line "or else". WTF, are we in Russia? Is this China? Last time I checked, this was the USA, and we had that little thing called the First Amendment (funny a conservative hiding behind the First Amendment!)

government doesn't mind you looking at boobies.

they do mind you looking at something you may use against them.

i have the same problem. Navy computer network blocks; falfiles, 1911forum, and several others. But as mentioned arf.com works and american backyard and such still work. Also mentioned is the fact that you CAN look at T&A sites though if caught can be court martialed for disobeying a direct and lawful order. It is an indication of how deep into the pit of democratic socialism this country has gone. I personaly wish for the days before lincoln whe these states of america were a constitutional republic.

Had to install a new (different) hard drive and in doing a search for the file I got a new site also named FAL File powered by Vbulleten, I registered and made a couple posts but no replies to date, it appears to be a exact copy of this site.

I go to the borderline porn sites when bored. Looking for something to buy for my wife is my story and I'm sticking to it. Just recently it stopped working for me, FALFILES.

Oh, almost forgot. NMCI (Navy/Marine Corps Intranet) even blocks swissrifles.com.

It seems that a recurring theme is that they will block all of the relatively tame gun websites, but allow the raunchier sites through their firewall.

As far as porn goes, all one has to do is to use the Google image search. Not that I would do that..

What is funny about our work computers is that many times I have attempted to access Federal sites, and I get a security warning or flat out rejection. Yet a friend went to www.whitehouse.com, which was a porn site at the time. Well he got out of there ASAP, and was worried he would get into trouble. But I was denied access to the US Army Corps of Engineers website because it was not an authorized website.

I was able to access arfcom and falfiles overseas for a while until they installed new firewalls, until I tried www.jobrelatedstuff.com.

Unfortunately, for me anything gun related is logged as "Mature, Online Sales" or "Mature, Chat" if I click on it at work. That's OK, nothing I wouldn't look at in front of the commander, or my mom. That ROT keeps me safe. One day I'm thinking of clicking on the CMP website (also "Mature, Online Sales") a hundred times to see what the tech folks do.

To get the backdoor for the falfiles using www.l1a1.com, on a gov. computer you need to use the address for the actual forums and then replace falfiles with l1a1.

Instead of http://www.falfiles.com/forums/index.php?s=

use http://www.l1a1.com/forums/index.php?s= Hopefully this will work for you.

if you just type www.l1a1.com it will take you to the front page of the falfiles that will be blocked by the filter.

Also, most of the Army systems vary by installation, some places I can get onto the files some I havent, but now I know about the backdoor shouldnt be as much of a problem.

They block these sites to cut down on bandwidth usage, but not the porn sites because most people wont go to these on their computers so the bandwidth usage is not that much on them and you can get charged by going to them. You cant get charged by going to the falfiles or ebay since they are not offensive or explicit, but too many people go to them and hog up the bandwidth that is supposed to be used for official business. On one installation I was on, they blocked ebay, until they found out the CG was a big ebay adict, needless to say it was quitely taken off of the restricted site filter.

Not to be a nag, but just a taxpayer... err, umm, aren't you supposed to be doing some NAVY/Defense of the US and its interests/etc. kind of work?

When you think about it, why would any IMPORTANT .gov entitiy even be on the internet, and not a leased private net? The only advantage of the internet is it's low-cost, and since when does .gov care about that? They must WANT you to surf the 'net, as a way to psychologically PROFILE YOU... just a thought. Just because you don't wear a TFH, doesn't mean your computer doesn't need one.

ahhh, I spend 12 hours a day on the internet. I do that 5am-5pm and off 2 days then. 5pm-5am and 4 days off. It gets boring but someone needs to do it. In the end I spend less time commuting, when I get off there is no traffic jams and I go to work roughly 11 days a month. I use the internet to stay sane. I still want my falfiles so I spend time with family and not addicted to surfing the files!

Try this: I found that if I add the site I want to visit to my "Favorites" list and then navigate to it from there, my companies' internet blocking software (WebSense) can't prevent me from viewing it. However, if I type the URL in the address field, it is blocked.

Obviously, if a site is already blocked for you this probably won't be of much help.

I'd be curious if this works to get past other internet blocking applicatons, as well.

The L1a1.com/forums link didn't work.

Bummer.
