Browning Buckmark recoil spring help

I was putting back together my buckmark that got sonic cleaned and didn't have time to put back together in February. I always struggle with the slide. I watched vids, all using post 2001 examples. But the springs they use look like theres barely any tension as the buffer sits easily on the tip after spring is on the recoil rod. My spring that I replaced is like 2-3 inches longer and impossible to get tensioned on the rod before sliding in to the slide.

So what I did was cut the spring excess and it fit ok. But does anyone know what the spring length is and maybe brownells sent me the wrong replacement spring? I hate 22's for all have some pain in the ass reassembly with the slide.

Did the c clip get misplaced? It retains the recoil spring, making it easier for reassembly.

Wow maybe. Didn't see it in the instructions I read and watched though for post 2001 models.

The first time I took my Buckmark apart, the c clip was missing. I took the rod with me to the hardware store, and found a c clip to fit. I bought a couple extra.

I just do not clean the 22s much unless the action is sluggish. 1-2 years they get cleaned.

Yep, the C clip retains the loaded spring for removal and installation. Part number 43 in the pic:
