Received my IMBEL from Randy Kline (UPDATE: RANGE REPORT)

After 6 months I finally received my Imbel build from Randy Kline at Superior Arms & Machine.

He stripped the entire rifle of it's old finish, parkerized all the metal parts, and re-built it with a bipod-cut barrel I provided him. I can tell he paid attention to all the little parts he worked on.

It was worth the wait, and given his busy schedule Randy would give me an update on my build every time I sent an email.

Randy told me it's quite the shooter before he shipped it out. I'm going to put 300 rounds of Malaysian L2A2 through it this weekend. Excited

Parts list:

21" Imbel Bipod-cut barrel w/ chrome-lined bore & chamber
Imbel GL Receiver
Imbel parts kit w/ matching # bolt & carrier
Ironwood Designs G1 Type-C walnut stock

Wow! Nice looking stick. Congratulations, and thanks for taking time to put up the photos.

The rifle already has it, but for some reason the pictures give me a woody!

Well built, Randy does nice work.

Thanks for sharing.

Enjoy!

Nice....

Randy does great work and he is real gentleman. He built and refinished an FAL using a matching StG58 parts kit and a Coonan type 1 receiver for me a few years back. The build turned out absolutely beautiful, so much so that the rifle has been sitting in my safe ever since.

I need to get some good pics and post them here some time soon.

Nice work.

I'm glad to have seen this. Randy has made himself rather scarce around the forums for quite some time and I had began to wonder if he was ok. It's good to see he's still at it. He's done some nice work for me in the past as well as many, many others.

Very nice rifle!
Randy is the man, and has built three rifles for me and half of another one. I'm also glad to see he's still turning them out.

And from the "way back" files, here's Randy his own badself, on the left, when I picked up my first rifle way back in 2002.

Did you guys stink? Or did the camera guy think a telephoto shot would be ideal? Lol

That's the epitome of FAL: not too long, not too short, not too low, not too tall, not too plain, not too funky.

I only wish the U.S. parts used were Belgian.

Went out with my Imbel by Sledgehammer (Randy). Laid prone and used my Caldwell shooting rest. Had my zeroing target at 100m down range. You can see my initial shot groups on the lower right but after some adjustment to elevation I was able to get all my shots within that 6" shoot-n-c. I was shooting 1979 surplus Malaysian L2A2 146gr ball at 1 shot per second.

I unloaded 364 rounds of L2A2 today. No issues with the rifle, although 4 of 8 of my surplus FN/Israeli from J&C Sales did have feeding issues. I'll need to break them down and inspect them to see what's up.

Also had gongs at 100m and 200m. Irons made it too easy.

Most of this 1979 lot Malaysian ball was already corroded but the rifle ate through it all. All 364 rounds of it, the FAL's pencil barrel got a little smoky and hot.

Quick successive follow-up shots at 100 meters at this 6" shoot-n-c. The lower right groupings were prior to adjusting elevation. Decent for 40 year old surplus ammo.

Some of the other toys I brought out. From shooting targets at 70m to 1000m in one afternoon of shooting.

Great looking rifle, and nice collection of other toys too. Looks like you came over to the dry side to test it?
You might want to consider joining us for the Washington spring shoot. (when we pick a date)

It's a Bergara HMR in 6.5 Creedmoor. Installed a KRG Bravo chassis, and various other bits here and there. The scope is a Viper PST II 5-25x50 FFP. I use it for shooting 800 to 1000+ yard targets only.

Looks and shoots like an Argentine barrel, never seen an Imbel with the step down before the combo device. Nice looking and shooting stick.

That step down on IMBELs may be a feature exclusive to bi pod cut barrels. That is just a guess on my part.
