It was indeed. To walk into a pawn shop and go OK I wasn't expecting one of these but I will take it home.

How well does the dust cover mate up to the receiver on the left front side? I've not physically held a MAK since the eary 2000's. I was recently looking at some newer made AK type rifles (non chinese) that had a pretty good gap on the left side near the front of the receiver (dust cover wise).

It mates up just fine and is pretty tight.

Very nice looking MAK-90 in the photo. It looks identical to the one I have including the wooden furniture. I found mine at a LGS with six Chinese steel 30 round magazines for the sum of $500 plus tax about 20 years ago.

And so it goes.

Both looking real good! Buddy has one that he's bringing to show me on Saturday, think it has the thumbhole stock. He's wanting to sell it to fund an underfolder version.

MAK 90's are great rifles. They were/are economical, efficient and combat reliable. They are one of my favorite AK variants.

Bought my MAK 90 new in the early 1990's (<$200), still original, great AK, IMO...

Very nice Carlos, I just bought the spiker assembly 3 weeks ago from 2ndamendmentAK47andSKSparts.com for $200. It looks well made, did you swap it out yourself? I'm thinking about sending it to Gunplumer to have done. Probably gonna buy some Ironwood furniture too for it, the MAK I'm un-banning still has the thumbhole stock.

Thanks.

I got my bayonet kit from polytechparts.com years ago and did the work myself. Pretty straight forward replacement. Mine also had the thumbhole stock originally, which was the first thing to go. I got the stock and handguards from a private seller and the grip came from - I believe - Apex.

At one point I had the Chinese clamp-on bayonet - which I should have saved - but I sold that after I got the press-on spiker. This is the only pic I have with the clamp-on spiker installed.

Found one at a LGS two days. Perfect condition, barely used if at all. They had it marked at $575 and I offered $500. The offer was accepted and they even threw in an extra mag and hard case.

Some very nice rifles there, guys. Much as I likes me FAL and ARs, the AK has a strong hold on my heart for scrapping inside 300 yards... Like a good mule, an AK will work and work...
My MAK is milled and was debanned years ago and I love it... My only beef is the 30-rounders (along with the weight of the milled recvr) are weighty and sort of get in the way. Some 20 rounders would be good but seem to be unavailable (hint, hint)... With my ARs and FAL, I don't really have a use for the AK but but but I feel nekkid without one....
BTW glad to be back after my self-imposed exile... In spite of the "2004" join date I was posting in this forum in the 1990's.. the Yeats poem in my signature I added in 2000 as a reminder of what the 20th century became...

Back at the 1st of June I took my MAK to a machine gun shoot and spent around 400 rounds and it was flawless and really smooth.
I have a Yugo M70 milled AK too and its not near as smooth as the MAK.

And I thought I was the only person who remembers Roses Gun Department. They had great color sale papers each week that featured nice mil-surps. I think I remember seeing $49.95 SKS rifles and $99.95 MAK90 sporters (thumbhole stocks). Those were the dayz.
