Coronavirus could cost Trump the election, Goldman Sachs warns

I read this earlier and it makes sense in a way. If Coronavirus catches on here enough that it disrupts the economy, that could theoretically blow back on POTUS (who has been front-and-center to take credit for the booming economy) at a time when he's running for reelection.

CNN: Coronavirus could cost Trump the election, Goldman Sachs warns

Thoughts?

I was less than impressed with the press conference yesterday.

True that more people are killed by the "normal flu" every year, but this is not a normal flu.

I think he has underestimated how many people are getting sick, and for how long they are staying sick and how contagious it is.

Which will easily affect the economy.

The press conference yesterday seemed like he was just blowing it off altogether.

Time will tell, but if there is a major outbreak within the US (which I fully expect soon), he's going to have more than just egg on his face if it hits the fan like it is in other countries.

We are losing the battle to the Chinese and their supporters. SunSzu or whatever is working like a perfect storm. Give away 60,000 factories that includes your healthcare manufacturing, science and technology to communist for Christ sake and then wonder how we can lose.

Everything you need to run the economy or protect from a virus is out of the country on purpose, they win without a fight. Trump can't do much and the economy can crash. If he survives politically then America will bring it's jobs home and rebuild. If he doesn't survive then the swamp sells what's left to China.

I've been saying for years, China didn't loan us 20 trillion dollars out of the goodness of it's heart, and you better believe they asked for collateral.

What do you reckon that collateral is?

That alone will make the economy take a big hit, highlight the lack of a national healthcare system (who exactly pays for all that ICU care, drug cocktails etc?? It would bankrupt most families) and provide a great opportunity for the MSM to snipe at Trump no matter how good or bad he manages the federal response.

I see the MSM sniping at Trump's CV response has already started.

China has been reducing it's holding of US debt and is now something like 1.2 trillion, not 20 trillion.

I remember chastising folks about buy cheap ChinesE shit and they confronted me with it didn't matter. 60,000 factories sent over there with our jobs, to the fking communist. Now the supply train that powers the economy gets broken and our economy can tank big time. The list of products just from Procter and gamble is huge that the supply is broken.

Capitalism requires product, Americans fked themselves by putting communist in the supply lines. Who knows how this plays out but it could crash the world...what will rebuild after the crash?

Goldman Sachs has monetized everyone in America in terms of Future Worth/Present Value of a Dollar, via their consumer goods consumption paradigm.

Rely upon them to make the right choice.

Bloomberg is buying the election so he can sell America to the Chinese, he is a good capitalist. Buy low from the democrat's and sell high to China.

I wonder which candidate will be first to contract the Corona virus.

If this were Russia, we'd already have the answer.

Considering how stupid most of the electorate is, nothing is off the table. But, it's being hyped by the MSM to get the results they are looking for. The dimwits wouldn't love for the economy to tank. Their lust for power has no bounds even if the people suffer.

China has the flu and can't make products for the American market equals strike one

Strike two our market fell 6,000 points in just a couple of days

Strike three will be quarantine of any city and it will stop commerce

This game is over and a new game starts.

Ummmmm..... the Sandinistas overthrew the rotted govt, held off Ronnie's terrorists, are now the sole leading party and hold the reins of power in Nicaragua.

Maybe that isn't the best name for Sander's supporters.

Yeah,

Current estimates if it hits the US full bore will be an additional 1 million deaths in a year. That's about a 33% increase in the number of annual deaths.

It is within the commander-in-chief's ability, that if the shit gets deep enough,he could impose martial law and postpone the election indefinitely, until he deems the situation safe enough for people to go to polls. This situation is likely to get extreme.Very likely. Wait until congress and senate members start keeling over from it. And federal judges. The fact Trump kept his cool and did not go "postal" for the last three years tells me he can handle and manage high degrees of stress. Most other presidents would have crumbled.

Well the highest death rates are going to be oldsters that have diabetes, respiratory/heart disease, compromised immune systems, and are smokers and boozers.....and shitty healthcare.

Which is a lot of America.

Most of the homeless are much younger but of course have gobs of health problems themselves.

If it morphs into a widespread epidemic the entire economy will take a big hit.
Schools, businesses any large gathering closed for months.

Then of course is the problem that so many americans are 1 paycheck from being insolvent and homeless.
Who is going to support them when the office, factory, store transportation is closed for months?

The FED better get to printing.

East coast and West coast, which is a good thing. The real question is will dem voters expose themselves to potential illness just to support those jackasses that are running. I'll bet most patriotic supporters of this country would risk corona to try to stay the course with Trump.

Capitalism requires product? For one, quit using that term. And then, WTF does that mean?

What we want, unless we are stupid, are free markets. Free of government intervention. And that means no corporate bailouts or protection.

That means no subsidizing Walmart employees with tax credits and WIC.

It doesn't mean open boarder labor markets because the overhead to sustain a healthy, well educated, industrious populace requires investment in the community from where the workers are harvested.

Their is nothing wrong with being harvested as a worker, as long as the transaction is freely engaged.

The key to this whole economic-political-military enterprise is to ask: did the participants have a choice, or were they coerced by the threat of deadly force? It is pretty obvious which side of that equation free markets exist, and they thrive.

Dude, ya I like that, Dude, I was reading another thread about your medical problems from ice fishing. If I was you I would worry about being half dead and not able to feel it. That blockage breaks loose and hits your brain or sticks in your heart then there is a good chance it's over for you.

Let that soak in before we try explaining capitalism.

Regular flu is thought to decrease in warmer weather, generally, because people get more sunlight and the amount of vitamin D produced is increased. Also, less confinement, more space between people, and maybe increases in UV-C radiation from the sun destroys viruses, when exposed.

From today's Moon of Alabama.

Trump's reelection chances are sinking as Covid-19 cases rise. The incompetence of his administration will come under new light. The stock markets will continue to tumble and erase the economic gains Trump had claimed. Bernie Sanders' chances of winning, if he survives the pandemic, will increase as his prime campaign promise -Medicare for all- will become even more acceptable when the problems with the current U.S. healthcare system come under new public scrutiny.

Wishful thinking.

Infectious-disease expert Anthony Fauci, who has been one of the federal government's main spokespeople on the timeline for developing a vaccine, said Friday that it could take "up to two years" for a vaccine to be market-ready, according to Rep. Jan Schakowsky, Dem of Illinois. Notably, that's a longer timeline than the 1 year to 18 months that Fauci and HHS Secretary Alex Azar shared earlier in the week.

Watch the Southern Hemisphere, if they start to have sustained transmission during their summer consider that worse case, if it is put off until their fall/winter season then we will have time, and we can then make estimates on impact based off of reported morbidity/mortality data from reliable first world sources. All viruses mutate, this thing could turn verulant. We have health care system based on a business model, not one based on defense, our tipping point could happen, it wouldn't take much

Who do you think would survive an infection, Trump or Bernie? You can't elect a deadman. Bernie is dead like fried chicken no matter what, Trump maybe.

Lets give this a couple months and see who's standing in the end. I'm predicting that the Corona Virus ain't shit. It's another variation of the Flu, the Big Money players tank the market blame the Virus, and the mainstream media are making it out to be the next Black Plague. A coordinated effort to drive the market even further down. Ever notice that Every election cycle there is a new "outbreak". A couple years back there was ebola, then there was zika, then there was ebola again, then there was MERS, the there was SARS, and Avian Flu, and Swine Flu. It's horseshit.

I believe Trump uses it to work the Fed to ease lending rates again, and thus the market recovers. That is when you'll see the Corona Virus suddenly disappear, and then all we're left with is more "Orange Man Bad" from the left.

"Now, let's go to the Wayback Machine. In April of 2009, the H1N1 became a pandemic.

But it wasn't until six months later, October, that then-President Obama declared a public health emergency on what was already a pandemic. By that time, the disease had infected millions of Americans and more than 1,000 people had died in the U.S.

CNN reported at the time:

Since the H1N1 flu pandemic began in April, millions of people in the United States have been infected, at least 20,000 have been hospitalized and more than 1,000 have died, said Dr. Thomas Frieden, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. [emphasis added] Furthermore, the CDC's Frieden fretted at the time that efforts to create a vaccine had stumbled:"
