Given where we are today, the original question sounds like an attempt by a mortuary to build a client list...

Old timers still here

After a long hiatus with no home internet (AT&T, don't ask) I'm still here. Old enough to remember buying a 1964 unissued L1A1 kit back in late 1993.

I'm not sure, but I think it has to do with drooling, flatulence and incontinence. But I'm only guessing, as the OP never defined the term.

This thread is where I get bitter about my original username getting fubared and getting zero help from Jen to fix it. Had to re-join in 2006, was originally a 2001 or so member.

Long enough to have bought some cheap kits, and affordable .308, missed the super cheap .308 though....

Hmmm, I came back to post pics of a T-48 I seen at a gun show and realized I dont have a web pic hosting place to post them so epic fail and ended up on this thread.

If we can round up Barley Pop and Dirt Farmer we could make up a softball team.

For the real old timers NT...

What about Ol Dirty?
Or the who can build the cheapest FAL with Harlens NGL Imbels and SA kits with baby poop on the furniture thread. I think it was down to like $350 at some point maybe less.

Still checking in now and then. The FAL holds a special place in my heart, not merely as a gun but from the memories researching, shooting and building them.

ETA - How do I have a lower number than WEG?

ETA 2 - And one more. Tried to get into AK files, but apparently I forgot my password and the password reset doesnt work. Advice?

Still around. Did everything in life backwards and am riding herd on wee offspring at the half century mark. When I should be at the range I'm at Disney or some such.

I remember trading an Izhevsk M44, a Terni M38, an CZ Vz24, and a MAS 36/51 for my first CAI Hesse receiver FAL.

And yet no mention of the original “blue board”...

My cheapest was under 300.

$89 two for the price Tapco Imbel with free pistol grips thrown in. Had the common muzzle bulge so shortened barrel and recrowned muzzle with no muzzle device to clean up damage

On sale NGL Imbel receiver for $168 from Harlan, I think.

Century HTS for $18 plus lots of work.

US magazine follower and base plate for about 15 bucks if I remember correctly.

Painted it battleship grey using left over ICI chemical resistant machine paint that wore like iron and I wish was still available.

Darn nice FAL, shot very well

Built the second one for about the same price.

Was on the old Blue Board until it disappeared. Flame wars were epic back then. Threads didn't descend into chaos back then, they started that way.

Signed up here after rediscovering the Files and lurking a bit.

Can’t remember when exactly. Lived through a golden age. Amazing group of members, even the ones with a bit of a screw loose

Good times for sure.

I first came here around 1997. Im not even sure if there was a forum at that time. I know AR15 was just a couple technical pages back then with no forum. Vollmers Paintball and Machinegun board was about the most trafficked board until it went offline and was replaced by the old Subguns forum. I think my original handle here in 1997 was 0331. I lost that in a board update and came back as Marte and lost that in another update so now I am "Marte." I still have my old VHS Mark T. Graham Gunplumber instructional video gathering dust in my shop and the Excellent condition Austrian STG 58 kit and Imbel Type 3 receiver I built with it's guidance sitting in the safe. I remember buying a complete refinished Israeli FALO HB Congo kit on this board from Hesse for $200 and building that up on a nice DSA Type 1.

I started following this board in 2001 or 2002 but didn't join for a long time. Thanks to you old timers, I still have two virgin PAC GL receivers and two cherry StG-58 kits aging gracefully. I can't be sure but I think the StG kits were handpicked $189 each from FAC in Fridley, MN. The PAC GLs were $229 ea (?) also from FAC. I bought 6 receivers that day in 2003 (?). I built 4 of them with your help. I'm still sitting on 2 or 3 k of Port and SA milsurp acquired for less than $0.25/round.

I come to the site just about every day. I can't imagine being without it. This place rocks. Thanks fellas.
