Like the R type selector ? Right now that is looking like a flop. BTW what I was asking is what are people willing to pay for a set?

Someone from England was selling origional sets for about $160.
$50 to $70 would be easier to swallow.

hmm

I bought mines from Marstar in Canada for 10 bucks. It was months and nothing arrived.

I called and they sent another one, this time that arrived....a couple of days later the first one arrived.

I called them about it and they said keep it, we got thousands of them here....no worries, thanks for being honest.

I have a Hysnthe site that is all original on my British kit.

Sorry for the slight hijacking......

Rudolf, where did you find it on Marstars site? I looked and didn't find them.

Okay, back to the original thread....

Mountainman: I would be interested in two sets for my L1A1's. Keep me in mind if you make them.

Thanx

I reactivated my front site...

Its worth it but my kit that I got back in the early 90's for 100 bucks already had it.

I would love to have an original later issue front sight that I could re-animate, but I'm not paying $100 for one.

What I would love to see is a Hythe-style aperture assembly that is compatible with metric bases and has the sight height appropriate for use with closed gas-block front sights. I really like the concept.

Anything ever come of this? I could use a set on my 1959 BSA L1A1; would prefer both ends but at the very least, a rear sight that doesn't double as a basketball hoop would make aiming it easier...

I'd be happy with a smaller front sight blade, and standard rear sight with a smaller aperture like my AR-15.

I'd be interested if the front was included also.

with tritium.

I love mines on my current UE setup. It came that way but the front was dead.

I had it reanimated and it was worth it.

All my rifles wore them. I hated the tritium front sight though, just too bulky for the type of shooting I generally did.

I did see another of the packaged conversion kits among my junk somewhere. I don't actually recall how many of them I had and it seems one bubbles to the surface every few years...

Is Numrich still a reliable source for the Hythe rear sight slide? How much are folks willing to pay for the leaves? What's a reasonable price? I see at least 3 hrs a set making these.

Id be interested as well.

I wonder if one could use a 3D printer to make a casting mold? I have a friend who has one, but not sure about the molding process. Seems if it could be done, it would be way cheaper and just require more finish machining if anything.

by the time you make a mold then make a bunch of wax forms and then comes the fun part, make the tree dip it in slurry then pack it in sand then to the oven to hatrden the slurry/mold and evac the wax. finally cast the parts and then pray that when you break the mold its all good. You need a quantity of like 500 pcs, so say at least 300 sold. Machining in the quantities I sell just depend on my mood and immediate financial situation.

I thought for large quantities you made a mould that would not be destroyed like some steel alloy or ceramics, while sand was used in low production as it sounds like lots of things can go wrong.

Saw a guy on youtube making an intake runner using lost wax (actually a 3D print which was them melted away by the pouring Aluminum). And a friend did make his own cylinder head the same way. In both cases one-offs or low scale.

Doing that in large scale sure sounds scary.

Are you casting steel or pot metal. For pot metal all you need is a die cast set up like you said steel mold. If you want to cast metal you need a wax tree of parts dipped first in ceramic slurry for fine detail and then sand for strength and added refractory benefit.

Was poking around online tonight and found this...

https://www.spikestactical.com/colle...ro-rear-sight/

Wonder if it would work with one of these...

https://www.dsarms.com/p-16063-dsa-f...ger-frame.aspx

Thinking too
tall. Time to find my calipers.

***Yeah, way too tall. Standard AR flip rear is about 1.5” from the rail. 416 style are about 1.1”. Measured the L1A1 on the 200 yd setting and it is 3/4” even off the ramp, which I figure is about where the ramp height from DSA would sit. Still, it has me thinking about other rail backups.

Bro I can keep the price point to under $160. I was thinking $70 for the two blade detents, springs and rivet you provide your own sight base and slider ( around $45 at ernst).

At that price would be in for probably two sets minimum.
