The front sight protector on Amazon is not the same type as the one in the manual. The Amazon example completely covers the front sight post making it kind of hard to aim the rifle using the front post. The example in the manual does not. I think the Amazon example was used for rifle drill to keep the front end from snagging on webbing, etc. Although, if you were really dying to get a brush deflector on your rifle that lets you aim using the front post, you could always cut open the front sight box on the Amazon example.

The original 'Vine Guards' are very scarce, I have only ever seen one and that was on a rifle at Lithgow SAF. The purpose of these was to stop vines and foliage in the Jungles of Malaya and Borneo catching between the Gas Plug and the Barrel. They came to be known as a 'Deflector'.

A new model (on sale at Amazon) was developed but for a totally different reason, these were used to stop the clothing on the guard party uniforms from snagging on the foresight protectors, hence the reason the cover encloses the foresight protectors.
