Ted...!!!!!!!!

As for "football" one would need to better define that. And no it isn't considered that. Most certainly that title god to lawn bowls.

Actually that title should go to off-road motorcycle racing, not some stupid one-ball sport

I assume you mean football soccer. Not American football. It’s not it’s just soccer has the most fans around the world.
The best team sport is Rugby. Hands down. I wish it was more popular in United States.

I remember one from years ago: "It takes leather balls to play Rugby"

I had a son play rugby during his last year in high school. I used to sweat out each game, thinking about how much I had paid for his braces a year before.

I used to think the same thing when my daughters played soccer (football)...

And, rugby is certainly worse from that perspective...

Whether its jocks playing football, or American football - watching overpaid twots earn obscene amounts of money while the obese cheer them on is certainly not my bag. Though football is closer to athleticism than American football - Cricket is far more enjoyable and a greater past time other than Amateur Rugby, or coarse fishing. Football, soccer to the heathen - is played by more people, and the World Cup truly is - the game of Rounders(baseball), has more of an international following - and could be perhaps worthy of a World series, than the rather parochial game that does. Professional sports, are just a distraction - people like to be distracted by the inane!

Having played football and rugby in England, WFL and NFL American football here in the states, and watched 'Australian Rules' football (Footy) in Australia, I have to vote for Australian Rules football first and English football (soccer) is second best.

The numbers do speak for themselves. As a world sport Football is the best, the most popular and played sport - all the rest are just local anomalies.

The world of personal performance in sports is an amazing thing.
Even communists like to compete.

Only greenies hate sports, as toxic masculinity and harmful to the environment

Team sports require highly skilled individuals to succeed, and politics is usually not part of the equation. Yeah that lesbian on the US Womens soccer team refuses to meet with Trump. She is an asshole; she claims that Trump is Christopher Columbus.

Stars abound in any organized sport.

I love NFL football for its brutality and finesse.

Ice Hockey has its stars, as does MLB baseball, top Level soccer, Basketball and auto racing. I lovem all.

Inspiring us little people who may have participated in some sport is part of why we watch. It is good for kids to emulate and to play as teenagers.

Life out of the pro leagues is full of things like shooting sports, horses, racing of all sorts and are the frosting on the cake of life.

I once questioned a guy about WTF he was quitting Trap Shooting after years. I now understand that each sport mostly has a built in time limit I have quit a few myself.

Funny story.

The wife came home one Saturday to find me downstairs in my lair cleaning weapons and there was women's tennis on the TV.

She stood there looking back and forth a few times and asked "Are you watching women's tennis?"

"No, just listening to it."

Football used to be okay to watch when they let them play. Now, too many stupid rules and too many penalties and you can't hit anybody half the time.

Plus most of the time is spent standing around. Or standing around. Or standing around more. And so many commercials.

Ice Hockey is about all I can stand to watch anymore, which is high paced and lots of constant action. True Team sport, too.

Autoracing is also okay, the kind with lots of turns not just that NASCAR go in circles stuff.

Women's tennis? Hmm...I don't think the gal below is actually a professional....professional tennis player, that is:

The main issue with football/soccer in the US is they made it a sport for rich families with lots of free time or hired aid . The cost of the gear an American kid is required to wear could feed and entire Brazilian middle school team for a month. I know someone who bought the top of the line Toyota SUV to take his daughter's team to the weekly events.

People outside the US play it because it requires as little equipment as basketball here. Contrary to US soccer regulations, 2 people is enough to play a game: mark the goals with sticks, rifles with bayonets, or even chained zombies and you are on. The ball is whatever you can find that will kinda roll without breaking your toes.

IMHO, the US soccer regulations by committee scam (only word I can use) make becoming a F1 driver easy and cheap by comparison. If those guys run any scientific research we would still be in caves wearing only deer ticks and an occasional loin cloth.

Here's why what some derisively call "commie kickball" is actually more capitalistic than the big four US pro sports:

Soccer is a technically and tactically difficult game. Never in the history of the world has someone "found" some giant athlete in, say, Africa, and brought them to England or Germany or Italy to play soccer the way it happens in the U.S. where people find an athlete to play basketball or Helmet Football (tm), for a few years and then turned them into a professional. The game is too hard.

This is because in all the other sports you can use your hands to manage the ball while you run, feint, push, etc., which makes it pretty easy to learn to do. Soccer, meanwhile, requires a person to do those things (push, run, fake, feint, etc.) with the feet AND bring the ball with you - with your feet.

I imagine that this is like watching golf if you don't play golf: you can't appreciate how hard that is to do 'on-demand' if you've never done it. So a lot of Americans don't give a damn about soccer. Oh well.

Beyond this, the American sports system sucks: how about a system where sucky teams get rewarded with the best draft pick. Has anyone here ever watched baseball in July? Unless you're within 5 games, it is boring and stupid - which everyone knows. Hey - NBA Playoffs!! Everyone gets to participate! NFL: suck teams losing games for draft picks, and no matter how bad the Browns are, they get to stay in.

Meanwhile, if you can't hack it in soccer, they kick you out of the league - to a lower league, and let a new team come up and give it a go. Every game counts - and in a way that people in the United States don't understand. You're in last place at the end of the season in the U.S.? Who cares about your last five games - and *maybe* it would be great if you managed to lose them all. You're in last place in England with five games to go? You are hunting and fighting and dying to win a couple of games so your team doesn't go down - and you don't lose your job.

And then there's the actual sports themselves: Helmet Football is hurting kids' brains, and soccer (and tennis) have been proven to be two team sports that actually *increase* participants' IQ - due to the complex problem-solving that goes on. Helmet football coaches give every person an assignment for each and every play - AND the game stops to make sure that everyone *knows* what their assignment is.

Helmet football is a dying game - and for good reasons. Anyone noticed the NFL making advertisements aimed at minority moms "gathering the family"? They know they're losing the battle - and so do the marketing people.

Here's what end of the season looks like for the teams that are fighting from a lower league to get "promoted" into the "Big Leagues" looks like...

In the past, there have been soccer players used as kickers in the NFL.

I don't know if soccer players would be good defensive backs. They would have to be fast enough to cover receivers while running backwards and sideways, and still tough enough to bust up the blocking and hit running backs head on.

Soccer / Futbol = fun to play, boring as fug to watch. Too slow, low scoring, low action. I played a few years as a kid. Lots of fun. Can't stand to watch it.

The only team sport I really enjoy watching is Hockey, which while having similarities to soccer/futbol, actually has action, scoring, and speed that doesn't put you to sleep and has games that are not usually 1 to 0 for the score. And, like you mentioned, simply being bigger and stronger doesn't mean you will dominate...there Skill and strategy and teamwork required to be great.

I see it as a waste of time to watch the ball sports. I like the shooting sports but won't watch them unless I shoot in the match. I get no enjoyment watching others play games, if I can't play then why watch it.

I enjoy watching professional baseball at the playoff level. Regular season, mid-summer games are not for me though. But, in the playoffs and especially the World Series, I like watching the games and seeing how the managers develop their strategy. Baseball is a game of many facets and it's fun to see all of them in play. Baseball also has a rich history with many interesting personalities and characters. Recently, I saw a claim made that it's beginning may have been as early as 1750 and get this, it might have originated in Great Britain. Oh yeah? Well, where the British Babe Ruth, or Ted Williams?

To play Football all you need is a ball. Rich or poor can play - American football you need pads and a helmet, otherwise its Rugby. All these games were encouraged so the masses would not overthrow the tyrannical rulers - distractions.
