2019 North Texas Shoot

2019 WINTER NORTH TEXAS FAL GET-TOGETHER:
Saturday, November 23th.

Due to some unforeseen circumstances I have had to wait until now to post a date. I know it’s a short notice but I hope everyone can make it.

The location will be the same as before, about 20 miles south of Dallas. This is an all-day event so you can stay as long as you like. All board members are welcome to come and you can bring a few friends along. This is a fun shoot, not a competition. It’s really just a get-together with a lot of gunfire.

All you guys that have been to my shoots know how things work, but for anyone that hasn’t been and wants’ to come here is what you need to know. You are responsible for you own food, drinks (no alcohol drinks while shooting is going on), guns and ammo. The majority of the guys will let you shoot their guns if you have the ammo. Tannerite and Title II guns are permitted if you have them. Safety is everyone’s responsibility since there is not a designated range officer.

The only way to get in will be at designated times. I will be at the gate at 8am, 10:30am, and 1pm. If you need to leave you can go out at those times. Also later in the day if you need to leave you can follow behind a member that is leaving. I’ll also go up and let multiple people out.

Since the shoot is held on private property, you will have to PM me for directions. This is a private shoot and I don’t broadcast the location to the general public.

If you have any questions you can PM me or post it here and it will get it answered.

James

I can't make it back on that date. It's KY deer season and I've missed all of October out of town

Be safe. Have fun. I will think of you all and look forward to another time

PS - Remember to stop shooting after your first hit on the 500 yard gong

Here is some advice on James' 500 yard gong in case you forgot. You, Moose, and at least a couple others witnessed this in 2017, so this is a reminder.

If you lean across that sandbag and estimate the hold-over and windage to that 500 yard gong, then actually hit it with the first shot, STOP!

Don't feel confident. Just flip on the safety and say "that's the way you do it boys", then walk away.

DO NOT throw the other 19 rounds in the mag randomly down range without touching the gong again.

That is a bad showing actually and I "know a guy" who did just that

The one I was shooting on the bank was a compressed gas cylinder out about 400 yds. 8" wide x 48" tall. It was a blast dinging it on consecutive shots. I ain't doing it with irons. I need about 10lbs more of tannerite

James, do you know how often Randy is at the shop in Jacksonville? I have a couple little projects to discuss with him and didn't know when he was there. Thanks for any info!

This years shooting rules have been relaxed almost back to pre game warden problems so that should make things more fun. I also will be putting up 7 to 10 steel swinging plates at various distances, maybe a few more if I can get them built in time. Will also have many 8" steel plates for pistol shooters.

I'll bring my grill if anyone what to cook something. I'll bring extra burgers and hot-dogs so i'll feed any of you guys that may be homeless but have guns and ammo.

For the out-of-towners that plan on coming up Friday night there are several newer hotels in Desoto located right on I35.

Anybody go questions let me know.

Randy is kind of the mystery man right now. I don't think I've seen him in at least 6 months. Been to the shop 4-5 times this year, always on Saturday, and he only came in one of those times. Of course he works Saturday at the SO and I think his days off are Tuesday and Wednesday so you might find there on one of those days.

I seem to recall a guy who did something suspiciously like as you described. No names will be thrown around though

That thing makes a very satisfying CLANG when hit by 590 grains of .45 caliber lead from my Sharps. I might need to bring that old pig back out and play a bit more. It's alot like serious work to run that bloody thing.

Ugh! Spent today loading some black powder Sharps rounds. 590 grains of shoulder bruising goodness.

We’ll get Rufe on the good guy side of this thing, I hope.

I ain't got nothing exotic to shoot. I picked up a 44 mag Golden Boy which was fun and then got a Blackhawk to compliment it with. So probably just bring them and a FAL and a couple pistols.

So this year, I'm gonna take pity on the white boys. We got us a freeze dryer so I'm going to make up a batch of mild green chile stew and freeze dry it to bring. And then I'm going to bring a batch of freeze dried "burn your ass" green chile that you can add as much as you want to "tickle your innards" to your taste.

So I'll bring that stuff freeze dried and reconstitute it in a pot with beef broth and water and heat it up.

That freeze dryer is pretty cool.

I didn't think it was too spicy. The only time I really got something that was blasting ass hot was in Thailand. Was at a resort and missed out on the free breakfast but they said they had some lunch that the folks who worked there were going to eat. Man that shit was snot slinging hot.

I saw a poster once that listed chile peppers from mild to hot. Hottest was some small little pepper (ghost pepper?), least hot was something like a bell pepper. There were about 40 different peppers listed. New Mexico chiles were in the middle of the list. I'm bringing some chile called AZ-88 which is middle hot here in NM. The hot stuff is called "lumbre" IIRC. I don't eat that stuff cause I like my asshole too much.

I hope to be there. Last time was a blast but cold.
I'll bring a BGS and some ammo and a Belgian hi power.

You bunch of TX fuggers are tempting me greatly.

When I was there for that shoot in 2017, I flew into Dallas, rented a car, and stayed at a Hampton Inn at Waxahachie.

Are there any better options if I get a wild hair to go again ????

A lot of us stay at the Holiday Inn in Desoto. Cracker Barrel next door for early breakfast and then convoy to lease for gate opening.

Buddy, that stew of yours with the Africa’s antelope or whatever you used was the best I’ve ever had. Ever. I seem to recall having seconds and possibly thirds.
But I’ll bring some hooch to help ease it all down.

This White Boy can handle it. I think

Hey Mike, hopefully if you do make it you feel a lot better than last time.

As Matt said HI is next to CB and that's always nice but there are a couple of more name brand hotels south within 1 mile. If you look on line the city is Desoto.
