By official accounts, the pig contagion wreaking havoc across Eastern Asia has virtually skipped over North Korea, with a single outbreak reported there in May. But wayward feral pigs have stoked concern that Kim Jong Un’s reclusive state is hiding an African swine fever disaster.

Five wild boars were found dead in or near border areas separating the two countries this month before being tested positive for the viral hemorrhagic disease, officials in South Korea said. The finding reflects the freedom with which animals roam the 4-kilometer (2.5 mile) wide buffer zone that divides the nations and creates an involuntary park and refuge for fauna.

Well, the Chinese have been buying a lot of African real state, and sending their worst to work there. Talked to a Nigerian (just a commoner, not nobility ) who said his brother rented an apartment to a couple of Chinese... just to find 15 living in it, shitting in the living room a few meters from where they were cooking chickens. Really classy folks. He kicked them out and they were pissed about that, as in police and the firm got involved.

Vietnamese seem to hate them worse than the vietcongs ever hated Americans... or French.

When wife wrecked in January flipping a Dodge diesel 4x4 end over end, cutting down a utility pole and then pulling up over 100 feet of fence as rolled four times first person on seen was an out of state paramedic who called me and said she needed life flight to major hospital. I called local State Patrol Post and was patched through to the officer on scene and requested life flight to NE GA Med Center or Grady in Atlanta. Locals carried her to local hospital that didn't even have an MRI machine where doctor dosed her to lethal limit with morphine and released her with orders to follow up with primary care in two to three days. They called me every 15 to 20 minutes asking when I was going to be there. Hospital was over an ninety minutes away from home when didn't have ice on roads.

Got her from waiting room as said could not leave her in patient room might need. What they wanted was her gone due to head injury. Drove her home fast as possible, put her through shower and did triage. Soon as had her clean and dressed called local 911 which recognized issues were bad immediately and had her in NE GA Med Center in under ten minutes. Fifteen minutes after she went into a coma and then Code 4 where took five minutes to get her breathing and heart beat reestablished and she remained in coma another half hour. I knew something was wrong driving her home but when they took me to a room away from waiting area but not to her and had three chaplains talking with me was preparing myself for a doctor to tell me she didn't make it. Had severe brain injury and was in ICU for five days then moved to Level 2 trauma unit.

In two months it will be a year from accident and she still has some issues with blood not prepared out or cranial cavity causing pressure and constant headaches. They found 13 broken bones in hospital then specialists found five more after release plus lots of torn connective tissue. If not for me ignoring the doctor at first hospital and calling 911 after doing an examination once got all the mud off her (they didn't even wash her face at first hospital) based on my 30+ year expired EMT course and Wilderness First Responders certification realized she was hurt bad and had severe head injury. All the local EMTs had to do was look at her eyes to see they pointed in different directions, pupils were unresponsive and eyes were filling with blood turning red where supposed to be white and they went into full speed action.

I had a diagnosis from a Paramedic on scene and State Patrol told local EMTs to have air lifted to wherever helicopter crew felt best they ignored him and took her to hospital which is known to be one of the worst in the state. All the bills came from corporation in Florida. She had card with insurance stuff stating had life flight insurance and even hospital doctor didn't pull the chain to start the process but waited for me to drive ninety minutes to pick her up from waiting room and though had discharged her made me sign three forms saying she was released in my care. Had I not gone the court routine once before and realized hospitals have the money to pay lawyers till break your lawyers even if takes a half dozen appeals the little guy gets screwed with pile of legal bills on top of medical bills so we are sucking it up hoping by spring she is back to base line or at least 85% of base line before accident.

U.S. service members are strong but they’re still people, and people get sick sometimes. But when one gets sick at the last minute, that can have serious repercussions on their unit’s ability to execute critical missions.

The Defense Threat Reduction Agency, or DTRA, is trying to get ahead of this problem by developing a predictive algorithm that knows whether a service member is falling ill—due to anything from a cold to exposure to biological weapons—up to 48 hours before they start to show any symptoms.

Send you to collect a "sample" from each G.I. near you. Had a great uncle that went to retire from Lockheed Martin (spent most of his life in the Skunkworks building) at age 65 and was told he had to finish project was working on. At age 67 he was still there and his wife got cancer so he said project complete or not he was retiring and gave his two weeks notice. Next day an Air Force General walked in his office and advised him to rescind his notice of retirement or before he could finish out his two weeks the Air Force would invoke some war powers or national security act and draft him putting him back doing exactly what he was working on for 1/4 the pay he received as a 40+ year experienced engineer at Lockheed.

He always had to let his superiors know where he would be or may be at any time. My mom was hosting the family Thanksgiving one year when our phone rang asking for my Uncle Fred. He listened for about three minutes, said yes sir and asked if someone could carry his wife home after the celebration was over as he had to leave and as was customary could not even tell his wife where he was going or when he would be back. Two months later he returned and later told me he had spent that time in Iran working on some antiaircraft missiles we had sold the Shah of Iran that were not working as supposed to in their environment.

Uncle Fred worked on Friendship Seven, most of the Lockheed fighters from the early 1950's till late 1980's, the C5A, was loaned out to NASA for the Apollo program and all sorts of cool stuff. He told me whatever was our admitted front line capabilities in any system we were actually 20 to 30 years ahead in reality if they had to fly or launch the secret squirrel stuff.

Thus they are going to draft all the old codgers like Yellowhand and have them swapping the members of the military with a Q-Tip.

I retired in 1990,,,that "retirement" lasted a couple months,,,came home from the office,,,damned Spec 4 had left a message on the answering machine,,,you've been recalled to active duty for the duration of the conflict!!!

I did not even know who we were mad at.

11 months later,,returned home with a decent tan.

I get another of those calls,,,going to hobble my old ass south a few miles and sit the next one out.

I don;t believe they can do anything with looking at the DNA???? from a swab,,,could be wrong,,,just don;t keep up with this stuff anymore.

Nearly twice as many people are dying from drug-resistant infections in the United States than previously thought, according to a report published Wednesday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

"Superbugs" are responsible for more than 35,000 deaths and nearly 3 million illnesses each year, the report found.

The best thing about that movie,,,John Cash's opening.

China just announced/admitted to,,,,two cases of pneumonic plague

The incubation period is typically one to six days, but can be for as long as nine days.

Humans can become infected by the bite of infected flea, unprotected contact with infectious bodily fluids or contaminated materials, or through contact with another infected patient.

Of the three versions of the disease, pneumonic plague is the only one that can be transmitted from one person to another by coughing, for example. The other variants are typically spread by infected fleas or animals.

Pneumonic plague has symptoms of respiratory failure similar to pneumonia. Left untreated, it is fatal.

Genetic sequencing research shows the Black Death actually originated in or near China before variations of the plague spread to Europe and Africa and killed tens of millions during the 14th century .

This flu season is shaping up to be one of the worst in decades, according to the United States' top infectious disease doctor.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases, said while it's impossible to predict how the flu will play out, the season so far is on track to be as severe as the 2017-2018 flu season, which was the deadliest in more than four decades, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Have over three dozen boxes of Tammiflu on hand at present and will get a total of.four more minimum in 2020. Try to get four to six boxes per year bit have to get two.doctors to write that many for wife and I and if try more insurance bucks so have to pay cash if get more than four boxes. Past two doses each we pay cash if can get the scripts. Have over forty gas masks with wife and I each having top line units with powered fans, amplified voice boxes and radio jacks if have to wear long term. House can go positive pressure for months if not a year before power and filters start becoming an issue if replace as often as would like. The panic room can be totally sealed and only fed by NBC rated filtered air that can run of grid, generator, batteries or hand pumped to bring in fresh air and even the old air that is listed as CO2 level meter says to swap some air is filtered at exit valve in case there is some backflow of air as the seal opens and closes.

Have at least two dozen israeli masks with a dozen or more filters each. Have three generations of US issue masks including latest with ability to mount filterz on left or right side, drinking tube and voice box along with ballistic face mask. Our fan powered units are Scott and have three different models. We even each have one apiece that has a port to plug a supplimental oxygen bottle in. Have small O2 bottles that can mount on belt larger that mount on back and a few large bottles in corner storage unit of panic room can refill smaller bottles or plug into a medical grade O2 bottles that are almost six feet tall.

With Halon fire suppression having O2 available is mandatory to have at least one per room and two per bedroom of the inexpensive five minute emergency O2 hood s to allow us to have air long enough to edit house as once Halon Fire Boys start dumping all O2 is gone from room.

Middle East, Africa and Asia all need a good gene pool cleansing plague. Especially while we have a President that before he is told it's a high threat to American population might do something like sign an executive order not allowing people to come in from near any afflicted areas or traveled through nearby airports into U.S. long enough for the courts to overrule him but the lag time he creates closing the border will stop bulk of cases getting in but possibly enough combined with what is seen on news that even liberals might agree to some sort of immigration control temporarily.

Health officials in Wuhan reported 136 cases at the weekend, including a third fatality. Cases were also reported in Beijing and the southern Chinese province of Guangdong, adding to those found in Thailand and Japan last week.

The surge in cases “is the result of increased searching and testing” for the novel coronavirus among people sick with respiratory illness, the World Health Organization said Monday. The U.S. scaled up screening at airports Friday for cases among travelers ahead of the Lunar New Year festival in January, when more than 6,000 people arrive in the U.S. from Wuhan.

It's here!

"1st U.S. case of deadly new virus found in Wash. state, CDC says.

A dangerous new virus that has sickened hundreds and killed six victims in China has now spread to Washington state, say officials with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

It is the first case of the "novel coronavirus" detected in the United States."

Time to get out of the cities if this stuff starts spreading.

It was inevitable that it would reach our shores. But I don;t know how scary it is, a handful dead, hundreds sick....is it any worse than influenza A or B? Certainly not something I would like to contract but on the surface it doesn't sound like a morbidity rate anything like Ebola

The death rate is very low,,,,and,,,,,patients are not requiring respirators to recover??????,,,as in,,suspect they don;t have a couple hundred respirators in all of that area inside China.

My county,,,about 150,000 people only has 12 of the things.

Fluids,,o2,Tylenol,maybe some antivirals,,,some folks die with compromised systems from other pre existing ailments.

About as good as anything else.

Something along the rate of 70% infection, with a 6 to 8% death rate,,,would take that level to cause us real problems,,,say 15 million deaths,,,,another 130 million sick roughly at same time,,,say with in a month,,panic alone,,would shut down everything,,,,then the old cascading system failures kicks in/take hold.

Would be a long time to recover.

Flu 1917,,had about the above,,,but without air travel,,and mega cities,,,so spread was highly limited and it burned out.

Would sure hate to be around when the next real threat hits.......

No kidding. And it doesn't take a whole lot to overwhelm our healthcare system. Even right now in the Northwest we are at about max capacity. Our local hospital has been shipping patients from the ER up to a couple hundred miles as there is often no beds available closer being flu season and all.

Even if it isn't a huge threat to society epidemics like this Coronovirus bear watching. They push the healthcare system to its limits and it shows patterns of how these things spread in real time.

Wonder if the Dems would collude with the Chinese to send a pile of people after exposing them to most contagious strain to the U.S. on a "free trip" just to cause any chance at derailing the Trump train. A serious pandemic flu outbreak would slow it all from manufacturing to stocks and more. Thus proving the Dems belief in open borders and no tariffs so able to get goods in while our workforce is sick.

Yellowhand, yes your flu shots help to some degree. Even though I am not quite old enough to qualify for the Senior Flu Shot on my insurance I pay the difference to get the stronger dose.

A good friend,RN,,works on the FEMA teams that go into areas when they need extra manpower after large problems.

He has a picture,,,of a Civil War horse drawn ambulance hanging on his office wall,,,captioned,,,,FEMA response team,,,for any national emergency.

You're right,,,in that most Americans have zero idea,,,how little it takes to simply blow up our health care system. Just no "fat" built into the system for handling huge ass events.

The "trick" to surviving something mother nature,,,or even man throws at us along the lines of bad bugs,,,,,,,early awareness its coming,,and ability to shut down the homestead and avoid all people contact for however long it takes to "burn out" naturally,,,or,,,wait out the lab coats coming up with a vaccine.

I've been scanning several overseas news papers daily,,,,for decades,,,looking for reports of,,,bad bugs killing folks at certain levels,,,,so far so good.

One day,,,going to scan one,,,,person to person transmission,,,death rates 15 to whatever death rate %,,,then will just lock up/lock down the joint and watch it all unfold on TV.

Food, water,,medical supplies,,,watch and wait........

I hate to say the sky is falling but this one might warrant watching, if the chinks admit 400 people are sick in a country of a billion plus population what are the odds that its worse than they admit? Saw someplace that they had quarantined the ground zero city, pop 11 million. Good luck with that.

What ya say is more than possible.

Just watch say Japan, Russia,,and South Korea,,,,they conduct a ton of daily trade with China,,hourly flights,,,boats,, in and out all the time.

Anything gets stupid inside China,,,,,watching how their neighbors to the north react is the tale of the tape.

Russia locks down their border,,,,duck and cover time.

Number of deaths,,,low,,,,and the high number of infected,,,,not needing ventilators to recover,,,,folks dying,,,old,,already sick,,,or younger,,,but already sick with something else,,,about normal.

A common cold,,,going through a huge nursing home,,kills a lot of residents with compromised systems.

If it mutates,,,to something that kills all ages,,,young and old,,sick or well,,,then might become something,,,so far,,,bad bug,,get sick,,get well,,for most people,,old folks die,,sick folks can;t handle most anything new to hit them.

Read a "report" that this city it came from,,,is also home to China's BL4 lab,,,reporter trying to make claim,,,something got loose from the lab there.

Another,,,if it bleeds it leads story,,,and lets get clicks.

Another "breathless" story,,,North Korea shut down their border with China.
Of course,,,no mention, that the norks are constantly facing starvation,,,all with compromised immune systems and malnutrition,,piss poor medical services and its people,,,like those living in a nursing home full of already sick people.

China is up to 7 cities quarantined now, more people quarantined than the population of Florida. Just read there is a Bsl-4 biohazard lab at ground zero in Wuhan.

OK,,all things are subject to change.

Seems folks,,,younger ones,,wearing suits and ties,, by the looks of these videos,,are now just dropping over in the streets.

I'm a bit concerned with this one. Chinese are trying to keep it under control, propaganda wise, but actually contained...no. It would take insanely disciplined military and police to maintain security around those cities, knowing they breathe the same air as the sick. Reports coming out that stores within the cities are empty of foodstocks. Who is going to bring it in? Air drops? So now nutrition starts to decline.

My Chinese co-worker just went home for the Chinese New Year two days ago. His home is 20 minutes from Wuhan. His mother told him to bring masks as the entire region was out of them. Hopfully he doesn't catch it, and more importantly, I hope he doesn't bring it back! He's supposed to return Feb2 to Ohio but at the rate this is going, all travel from that area might be locked down.
