Glock police trade-in goodness

One of my end-of-year-bonus purchases was a Glock 21SF from AIM. Arrived at my FFL this morning and was transferred to me this afternoon. $396 and change shipped from AIM, plus $25 call-in and transfer fee. Pretty good shape, frame is fine, slide has some rub spots but is not hurt other than the finish. The barrel and slide internals look great and the lower internals are good but need cleaning. Overall it is in MUCH better shape than the Gen 2 G17 I bought a few weeks back from AIM. The G21 looks to have been carried a lot and shot a little. The G17 looks to have been carried to hell and back and shot quite a bit (and not cleaned).

I wanted the G21SF to compare to my Gen 2 G20 and my Gen 4 G41MOS. The SF does feel smaller than the G20, but the finger grooves knock it down some as to actually feeling ďbetterĒ. The G41 feels the best, mostly due to the better texture. I had read that the Gen 3 21SF has the same trigger reach and grip size as the Gen 4 G21(20). My measurements show this is incorrect. The base of the grips measure the same front to back but up at the trigger the SF actually has a slightly shorter reach than the Gen 4. Not enough to actually feel or worry about though.

I like the SF and am glad I bought it. I already had a bunch of mags and a couple of holsters and mag carriers (and .45 ammo) so donít need to spend any more money. I do think I might drop a connector in it. The SFís trigger is really not that bad, for a duty pistol, but could be better. Wonít get to shoot it this weekend though, have to paint the garage.

Lots of great deals to be had on PD trade-ins these days and the 21 is one of my favorite Glocks.

Yes, and not too dim. The front does appear to me to be slightly less bright than the rear dots though.

I bought a 21 from AIM last year and was very happy with the purchase. It's good shootin' iron, uh, plastic and iron...

Just bought a Glock 17 Gen 3 police trade-in from Aim Surplus today for $389. Even if its pretty beat, I'm sure it'll function just fine. Curious that the Glock 17 Gen 2 pistols are sold out, but the Gen 3 are still in stock. Is there something more desirable in a Gen 2 than in a Gen 3?

Apparently, the trigger is 8.5 lbs. Some folks on the reviews at Aim said they put a 5.5 lbs spring in. Is this easy to do, and who sells parts? Same with the night sights.

A couple of years ago I picked up a Gen 2 G22 from a local pawn shop. What attracted me to it was it was marked South Carolina Highway Patrol on the right side of the slide in two rows and SCHP was incorporated into the serial number as well. It was significant to me as a personal memento to two of my uncles. One (deceased) was once the head of the SCHP and the other, still living is retired from the SCHP.

It shoots well but I have replaced the original night sights with fresh ones. Great gun.

A lot of folks, me included, prefer the Gen 2 grips to the finger grooved Gen 3's. My fingers don't line up comfortably on the latter.

I hate finger grooves on anything and everything.
Knives, gun grips, tools.

...except Gen 3 glocks.

They don't even fit my fingers, but they feel better than Gen 2.
I don't understand it, but...

A 10mm would be better.....but you have to hold it with a death grip. Hard to do that with one hand around your pecker.

I picked up my police trade in Glock 17 on Sunday. It looked brand new! A little holster wear near the front end. I think I need to replace the sights, which will probably make it on par with buying a new one. It was even pretty clean on the inside. Shot it yesterday. Even the cheapo see through $11 mags worked just fine, although a bit harder to load than the factory magazine it came with.

Paint it with baby poop for shitz n' grins due to it's role or, you know, roll if you will.

Dribbling on it for real just seems a bit over the top.

Any of you Glock Guys ever built a P80?

We all got different ones for Christmas. Both Brownells and Midway had the sets on sale. The custom G17 long slide with the G19 grip height is on sale at Midway right now to celebrate Shot Show 2020. Mine is the G26. I had a lot of fun building it and it shoots straight as an arrow. Its only the third week of January and Ive got 500rds on it. I followed their instructions, used Glock OEM parts and have had zero problems.

Those are my Shaggy Shoes - or as my wife call them, my "Scooby Scuffs."

They are waterproof Merrell brand "Jungle Mocs."
Different flavors of this concept on the Merrell site depending on what your needs are.

Back in the day when I was doing the "Cabela's points" thing on the credit card, I got them with Cabela's points.

https://www.merrell.com/

I see them on Amazon and all over the internet nowadays.

Order a half-size larger than your usual tennis shoe if you are just using them to bum around the house. Easier to step into them without having to bend over, and force your foot into them. If you order your regular tennis shoe size they will fit very snug. I just don't see the point in a "really snug" slip-on shoe. If I'm gonna be kung-fu fighting, I wear my tight ninja boots.

Yeah, that was the ugliest one of the batch.
Figured if I fugked it up, no bother.
Turned out great.
So, its my go-to house gun.

I have a proper Glock sight-pusher tool, which makes swapping Glock sights really easy.

Remember the RED loctite on the front sight.

I refuse to hold the Glock in whatever way the factory regulated it for the rear sight to be center on the slide. All my Glocks have the rear sight pushed ALL THE WAY to the right in order to hit pretty much to point of aim. I'm probably holding my pecker wrong.

My hold is firing hand THUMB POINTING DOWN.
Support hand thumb wrapped over the firing hand thumb, and also pointing DOWN.

I've tried the both-thumbs-pointing-up grip that seems to make these guns shoot better to to point of aim if the sight isn't jacked all the way to one side. The both-thumbs-up hold impresses me as a good way to increase the chances that the bad guy will snatch the gun right out of your hand at bad-breath distance. Maybe if I ever take up Parlor Pistol, I'll make an exception. I figure by then I'll be holding my pecker a lot less anyway.

Just hold it sideways "ghetto style" and forget sight position. You need two of them to pull it off Hollywood style.

The sights on my 17 trade-in gun were barely visible in the dark and not much better in daylight. I took it to Vienna Arsenal where I did the transfer (for $25 -- not bad for northern VA). They sold me a set of Truglo sights for $89 and installed them for no charge. I might do the same to my Glock 21 that's been sitting in my safe for almost 3 decades. I'm more of a 1911 guy ... but these Glocks sure are easy to field strip compared to a 1911, reliable and have a lot higher capacity magazines. Of course the ammo goes quicker ...

I've used this Vienna Arsenal place twice for transfers. Nice to have a decent gun shop in politically correct Vienna. Apparently all the residents filled out a petition when he first opened. How can we have a gun shop in downtown Vienna, drawing all the bad elements into our wonderful community. To their shock, the mayor told them that as long as a business was operating within the law, she had no right to dictate what businesses do within the town limits. The owner is a former marine, pretty laid back guy and the guys working there seem to lack a lot of that typical gun store employee dick thing. Prices are shy high, but its northern VA where everything costs twice as much as it should. Anyone who pays $16 for a box of 9mm, deserves it.

Times change I guess. This was also the year that I succumbed and bought an AR-15. I store it on the other side of the safe from the FALs because they tend to like to rough the little guy up in the dark. WW2 bolt guns in the middle keep the peace.
