Its 1435 and I'm 120 miles out of Desoto. Taking a driving break. 1900 sounds good for me.

Last minute

After a long hiatus, I will be in attendance! I will bring all sorts of cool toys and am planning on being up all night loading magazines.

Heading out now, but going to miss the Outback.

Anyone doing the traditional breakfast at Cracker Barrel in the AM before heading out? Me and my BIL will be there

Hey Johnny and MP. Looking forward to seeing you both again.

You guys missed a good, fun dinner this evening at Outback. I need to do some "day job" stuff early tomorrow and will skip out on Cracker Barrel myself, but will see you at the shoot in the morning.

I was in Bismarck ND earlier this week. It was actually pretty decent for ND in November. Only down in the 30s in the evening on Tuesday, so not too bad to go outside for a smoke, except for the fuggen wind.

Fortunately tonight I am in South Dallas where the weather is obviously so much warmer than in ND. Here, it is only down in the 30s, with a whole metric shit-ton of fuggen wind.

WTF

Does anyone have Al Gore's phone number to let him know he can turn up the global warming just a bit?

I want to extend a huge thank you to James for hosting this wonderful event!!! I haven't had this much fun at a gun range in a long time!

It was great to meet or re-meet everyone! I hope you all have a safe trip home.

Seconds on the huge thanks to James

This was my second trip down to this shoot, and I will definitely try to make it down here another day. It was great to see you all again, as well as meeting several new faces that did not attend on my previous trip.

Great group of folks, one and all

And a big THIRD to James and Robin for putting this together again.

Seeing y’all again was absolutely awesome, folks. It seems I need to meet y’all every now and then just go PROVE I’m not really an asshole in person..

Bug Tussel’s stew/chili was again, as usual, amazing, and James and Robin’s spread for lunch hit the spot!
Some of you got to try my “Bow and Arrow Kool Aid” (as my wife calls it).
Plenty of shooting, but more tailgate BS sessions and just catching up with everyone. And to think a foreign service rifle that this Nation didn’t even use has brought us all together.
What a great time.

Whittigton, NM or bust for next spring, y’all! Bug Tussel’s place for a party!

I don't think this actually "proves" that you are not an asshole my friend......

.......it might however "prove" that old cliche that "Birds of a feather flock together" might be true though.

Haha! Yup.

There’s something very comforting and natural about standing around chatting and shooting with the constant noise machine guns hammering away all around us. It takes me back to another time and place.

Whoever brought that tripod mounted pig should be Knighted. Nothing like a long rip from a belt fed to calm a guy down.

Good to see again a lot of friends. Good to get to know a lot of folks better. But, the chili was from Mr meltdown, I just supplied some condiments. It was delicious. Great burgers and dogs from James and wife. Thank you James for putting this together. And with tha5, I'm getting on the road heading g back to NM.

That was a great time!
Great to put names to faces, have a good hotdog, chili, and rattle off a few rounds.
Super cool folks and a nice collection of “the good stuff”

Thank you James and co for doing this!

Awesome, and we'll see you in the spring, I hope!

Nobody ever has enough time to visit, especially on Sunday.

Trying to play catch up with you folks! I've been out of the loop a few years. Are there any "non incriminating" pictures you all can share? lol

I'm off now until Monday and there is some rain in the forecast. I'll try to get some posted when I have a bit more downtime over the next few days.

Have you gotten the ok from some of the crew who are in the witness protection program yet?

Your face was blocked out by the M60 tri-pod and the subsequent tannerite explosion. You're safe bro

The guy and girl down at the end of the bank were rocking and rolling with hundreds and hundreds of rounds all afternoon. Those two never quit.

The only thing they needed more was to do some field phone fishing. Although I think every fish for miles around either left the State completely or got cut into pieces.
I bet the fishing's good in Alabama right about now.

Yeah, we sure didn't see any fish float to the surface...

BTW your A1 was fun to shoot. That rifle just feels right to me. I've got an M4 but the A1 is more comfortable to handle.

Yep,
It was awesome to see that A1 get shot. That's the very first time that thing's been out of the safe in probably three years.
I'm just not an AR guy at all, but I can sure appreciate an A1

James,

Thanks so much for organizing this, and for your hospitality! This was the most fun I've had pulling triggers in awhile.

Thanks also to all those that were so generous with lending out their bullet-hoses. So much cool stuff on display.

I really feel like a fool for waiting so long to attend one of these.

Way late I know but I'm sitting around Alliance/Ft.Worth a lot again at the moment. I'm usually free in the evenings if anybody has any good BBQ joint suggestions.

One of my favorites is Angelo's BBQ on White Settlement Rd. in Fort Worth....its been 6 years since I was there.

Wish I could join you, but I am like 5 hours away. Be careful if you go, the beers are really cold.

Also be aware in the neighborhood....over the years it seems to be slipping.

They have really good ribs, sauce and cold..cold beer!

Of course, the other one I really liked up that way (bubba"s BBQ) changed hands between my visits and while the ribs were cooked alike the sauce changed from great to okay.....hate when they do that!

If you like smoked chicken, look no further then "the hut" about 12 miles east of you....in the seat of orange county.......

Maybe you can sponsor one in Vidor. Bet the Rose City cop that trolls the frontage road would like to attend. Drove through yesterday.

Also be aware in the neighborhood....over the years it seems to be slipping.
I lived in Fort Worth for three years.

Angelo's sucks IMHO. Their meat was dry every time I went. Railhead has whoop-ass ribs on Thursdays. Riscky's in the Stockyards wasn't bad. We used to frequent Cousin's down on Bryant Irvin once in a while. I still find it odd that I struggled to find decent BBQ in Cowtown but very few places measured up to what I found back home in East Texas.

I’ve enjoyed Angelo’s when I was there, but Hutchins in McKinney is 7 miles from me and is the best BBQ in North Texas, by far.

But, unfortunately, California discovered it, and now the line to get in is an hour or so.

So I moved from Minnesota down to The Colony and I'm looking for a decent place to shoot. All of the outdoor ranges here suck ass. They're either short range, wig out over FMJ, or both.

Where do y'all shoot on the north side of DFW? Also, is the Frisco Gun Club worth a shit? Got a CCL class Groupon for $30. Texas doesn't recognize my Minnesota CCL.

Also, I ordered Hutchins from Uber Eats and that was fantastic. I still think Pecan Lodge was a bit better though and, so far, the best BBQ I've had is Hickory House Barbecue which is a collection of haphazardly assembled shacks under a bridge on the southside of downtown Dallas.

My daughter and son-in-law live in that area. I believe he's shot at the Frisco Gun Club; I'll have to ask what he thought.

I ran into the same thing when I lived there back in 2012-14. I was amazed to find in the supposed most free state in the union that shooting ranges are hard to find and run like the DNC when you do. Jump though this loop, FMJ only, open sights limited to 50 yards, must be vetted to shoot at 100, the longest range they had. And must be an NRA member before they'll consider letting you join.

Want some freedom on a larger range? Look for a shooting lease, pony up hundreds of dollars a year, get put on a wait list for three years.
If you don't own your own land in a rural area it's a royal PITA to shoot in TX. Every inch of land is owned by private individuals or the State and I found zero DNR type ranges.
A buddy of mine had a lease somewhere out in BFE and it took us a little over an hour to get there from Grand Prairie. 200 yards max. Seriously? The biggest state in the union and we got 200 yards? Over an hour away?

Two years after I moved out of TX I finally got an email that a spot had opened up on a lease I signed up for.

In indiana I step out back to shoot. If I want longer range there are two DNR ranges within an hour away, go just a few minutes farther I can shoot long range. No hoops or loops, pay my fee and walk in.

To the OP, I know two Files members who've recently moved out of purple TX and are glad for it. One, you just switched places with, moved to MN.
Good luck down there.

You are somewhat accurate. Here every piece of land is pretty much privately owned. Gun ranges are hit and miss. Some charge per gun. I'm fortunate enough that there is a range a few miles up the road that isn't bad. $11 to shoot. Or $60 membership a year and $5 a trip. Texas is not at all that gun friendly. If it were constitutional carry I'd be singing a different tune.

This reminds me I owe him some information

We were chatting on the phone a few months ago when he first told me he was moving to MN. I mentioned it to Blondzilla when I got off the phone and her immediate response was "WTF is wrong with him?".

As you probably know, she is NOT inclined to cold weather

Truth.
It'd take a team of D6 dozers to pull'er away from that pool. And if they did I wouldn't want to go to sleep in the same house with her that night.

Couldn't pay me to live in that commie arctic hellscape. Minnesota has virtually no redeeming features.

Every day I wake up wondering what the hell was wrong with me for going back home after I ETSed, lol.
