Max tried another question. "What sort of people live about here?"
"In THAT direction," the Jin said, waving its right paw round, "lives a Han: And in THAT direction," waving the other paw, "lives a Ming Hare. Visit either you like: they're both mad."
"But I don't want to go among mad people," Max remarked.
"Oh, you can't help that," said the Jin: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Max.
"You must be," said the Jin, "or you wouldn't have come here."

They're handy rifles. A friend of mine has one. My only complaint is the brake/noise enhancer they put on them. You don't want to be anywhere near that thing without hearing protection when fired. I'm sure it would piss people off at the range. I bought the Scout with a 18 inch barrel. It has the same brake but can be changed out with a standard M1A flash suppressor. Which I did. You do have to remove the bayo lug or pull the suppressor to remove the gas plug to clean. I removed the bayo lug. It's about as loud as a standard M1A now. I like mine.

I bought a scout squad a few years ago and turned it into a bush rifle. Sold the black FG stock, ler scope mount, hand guard and muzzle brake. It now has regular hand guard, flash hider and GI Vietnam era fiberglass stock.

i agree they are kinda fanboy as presented, but might be able to get one cheap and was thinking wood stock and traditional handguard and FH.

Probably not, but unbolt half of the crap SA sticks on it and an E2 stock looks (and feels) pretty handy.

Or a decent folder...

Or just plain old walnut?

One meter of whoop-ass!

Soluion in search of a problem. Bush rifle with SEI muzzle brake. Heavy in the length-to-weight department but I know it would be a confidence-builder in dire situations. YMMV. Choose wisely.

I prefer the Scout, the front end on the SOCOM, although looking cool, limits your options....

Not a fan of the Scout. In my opinion, if you want quality, I'd go the pre-ban golden era SA Inc M1A with genuine GI throughout shy of the receiver. Might cost ya a bit extra $, but well worth it

I like the scout. Especially in wood.

I shot the scout and my congo bongo para fal side by side and like them very much. Banged steel with easy and no failures

Ot-tay, discuss. Stay away from them. Get a 22" barrel on that M-14 clone like Da' Lawd intneded; especially if it is you first one.

Although, becasue of the rise in the number of M-14 Cult Members who have shorter barrelled M-14s. I've even been tempted to try one meself, but I would not get one if it was going to be my first or ONLY m-14 clone.

I have a full length and para fal. Both very different. Both work flawlessly and bang the steel with ease.

1st choice goes to 18" give or take size.

Wish they had a pu sniper m44 size

Personally, I think that the 16" barrel is a bit short to get better accuracy/velocity.

I love my scout, re-stocked in wood of course. It's the rifle I carry when I'm hiking around my property. Definitely heavier than 'modern' rifles, but to each their own.

Of course you should also acquire a full length, I also have a NM and Nelson-built SM from July 1976.

I will say that my FAL's are lighter, most noticeable in my para.

My first M1A was a piece of shit. shot 18" high at 25. Sent it back to springfield. They soldered an extension on the front sight. I sent it back again - I don't want a one-of workaround, I want the problem fixed! So they sent me a new receiver with the same barrel and extended front sight mounted to it.

Traded it to a guy for an Entreprise L1A1. And that's where the saga began. . . .

Since then, I've owned many including the socom. My favorite is the 18" with barrel mounted rail for red dot. I've not tried it with an EER Scout scope.

Full length w/scope - meh, it can be accurized, but everything that makes it more accurate makes it more fragile. And the scope on traditional model is so high above the bore as to be annoying at best. When I was in the Army, my unit still had a few M21s with the ART. It was "cool" but from a practical standpoint today, an AR-10 will out-shoot it for half the price.
