Factory Seal Under M1 Garand Buttplate?

First, I have not examined this rifle in person and I am only relating what the owner, an acquaintance of mine, has told me. He has only a limit knowledge in the field of the M1 rifle and I suspect the "story" he told me was told to him by the person selling him the rifle. So here goes! He claim that his rifle is a as new, unissued, never shot (except proof firing), exactly as it left the factory rifle and he says the proof of that is a "paper seal" covering the holes in the stock under the butt plate. He also said you can tell if a person is a "real" M1 Garand expert if they know what color is that seal. Call me skeptical. I have a fair knowledge of the M1 rifle and have never heard this "story". I was wondering if anyone can shed light on it.

While I am far from being an M1 Garand 'ex-spurt,' I too, have never heard of such a thing. I am more than willing to learn new information about this, and eagerly await enlightenment.

That could mean he never put a cleaning kit

In the stock, doesn’t mean it wasn’t shot.
I would look at the receiver number and see what date it was made and condition
Of the barrel and if parts are matching. Mike

Why would the company put this piece of paper under the butt plate?? It does nothing. I means only that no cleaning kit was placed. It adds extra work and cost to the rifle. Even if the extra is negligible for one rifle, by the time 50K 100K have been made it would be a real cost.

Also awaiting the real experts comments.

A stock is a stock.
