Receivers for Winter project arrived this afternoon.

Just received a couple of receivers from Bula Defense Systems for use in Winter builds this year. There are a couple more of a different type on the way also.

Whatta Hobby!

You, sir, are going to have a hard time wearing out a rifle if you keep building new ones!

Will you use USGI, Bula, or some other barrels and do you have *parts kits* at the ready?
Just curious...

So, are M-14 clone receivers now available for purchase from Bula Defense? Last time I checked, John Q. Oublik could not buy "just' a stripped receiver but had to get a barreled action, secondary to inchurence rules, procedures, lawyers, etc, which I understand, but are stripped receivers available once again to the unwashed, mere mortals? (I mean obviously through an FFL)

TIA,
Jarhead

Funny, but I shoot certain rifles often and just clean and oil most of them.
USGI and yes, I have plenty of parts at the ready.

Don't know about the availability of receivers on the open market.
There has been some question as to the release of receivers without agreements of liabilities and waivers of some sort.
Surely we will all be informed as soon as possible.

Great!
They are an enjoyable rifle to assemble and nice you have USGI parts available at this late date.

Anywhere from 1200 to 9000 depending on what the eventual intended purpose might be.

Had a little spare time this afternoon sooooo. I was just going to hand tighten a nice condition SA barrel from 1960. It timed to 10 degs. Oh Oh, here we go. I got carried away again using an all early SA kit and danged if I don't have another darn M14 rifle. Headspaced right at 1.633 with no additional effort.

Would like advice on parts list for a 6.5 build. I would most likely bet better off having barrel installed on receiver so it's timed and head spaced then just do the basic assembly and proper bedding myself. I need to get my 6.5 fleet up to full strength before any silly laws are changed.

If you are looking for a scoped rifle, which I would imagine you are, go with a Bula Defense Systems XM21. If you are interested in the best accuracy, have them barrel one with their Ultra heavyweight barrels. These barrels do use proprietary gas cylinders and muzzle devices because of their larger OD. They come with a keyed op rod guide which is press fit at Bula.

There, rifle is finished and I can safely take a photo of the right side, now that one of Hawk's kits has been installed. The proper stock, handguard and other small parts will be added as time progresses.

11050 our for function test. Other than having to tighten up the splines for the flash suppressor and the gas cylinder we are good to go. 2 clicks up on elevation put her at poa at 100 yds.

Brother Art: Does Bula leave the groove and threaded hole for a scope mount off of their "standard" M-14 receivers? I realize they are not needed on their XM styles, just curious about them leaving it off of their "standard". I can't see any left side pics of the receivers or rifles on their website.

TIA,
Jarhead

No Sir. Their standard receiver is M14 compatible with the side mount capabilities. The also make a M21 DMR which has rear sights in addition to a rail that is fitted on the top of the receiver and then my favorite , the XM21 which is optics only as the rail sections are machined directly into the receiver and there is no rear sight.

The T44E4s in my thread are from a limited run completed just recently. They do not have facilities for optics mounts.

Hunting variation for one of the T44E4 receivers. Playing in the shop this morning I had one of those notorious brain farts. Why not a hunting version for one of my T44s. Initially I was going to use a Rogue bullpup chassis that's been sitting on a shelf for a couple of years.
Came up with this. Nice thing about doing this stuff myself is , if I don't like it, I can make something else. No traditionalist in my shop.

Bula Defense Systems T44 receiver.
Bual Med weight barrel nipped and crowned to 17 3/4".
Bula gas cylinder assembly.
TRW rear sight base with M1 parts.
Chinese trigger group.
Bula Op rod
Chinese bolt.
SEI gas lock front sight.
USGI fiberglass stock.

Couple more receivers came in this afternoon.

First two went so fast, I had to add more.

Just unpacked another couple of receivers from Bula Defense Systems. I consider these M14 type receivers although the heel does not say that.

Have you had any issues with the Chinese bolts. For a while, it was thought that they were too soft and ended up causing headspace problems. I do like their op rods and trigger groups though

I have only 4 Chinese bolts in service in my herd and have not had a single problem with any. When all the bs about them being soft started up 20 years or more ago, I already had a couple that were being used in complete Chinese rifles. Headspace and condition has been constantly monitored and with over 5000 rds fired through each, they are still going strong.
I am aware of at least 2 outfits and probably more that made a business out of bad mouthing these imported rifles just so they could install usgi bolts.
I still consider the Chinese receivers to be some of the best available and like many M14 enthusiasts enjoy building match quality rifles using them as a base.

That's something I could never understand. The receivers are really good as are the rest of the parts, so why would they go south on the bolts. The rifles that stayed in Canada didn't seem to have a problem either. I've had a few of the Chinese( still have a heel marked PolyTech and a side marked) for years. Of course, I bought into the bolt rumor, but at least bolts were relatively cheap back then I fit the USGI bolts to them. Only pain is the metric threads in the gas cylinder... Luckily I have a couple of extra plugs

Just happened to be a few unscrupulous guys that wanted to make a buck off the lack of knowledge and gullibility of others. Rumor control has a way of permeating almost everything. Thank goodness most didn't fall for it.
