Need info for .43 Spanish loads

Looking for PERSONAL expierence/information about reloading .43 Spanish.

A good friend has a nice Remmy RB he wants me to load for. I'm leaning toward smokeless powder loads to save my friend the hassle of black powder because he's not really a "gun guy", and want simple cleanup.

Planning to only load cast bullets, so a source for the proper size projo's would be helpful as well.

TIA

I have loaded for .43 Spanish. I moved all my stuff, so I have to dig out my data. If I am correct, you can make brass from .348 Win, but it is a chore. I just bought mine from Buffalo Arms, who was also my bullet source, I think. I'll try to find it this eve.

Gotcha, I was just thinking that if he only plans to shoot a few rounds, buying the loaded stuff from Reeds might be worth it. They have been my go to for small quantity obsolete stuff for a while. Pricey, but if a guy only wants 20 rounds or so, not a bad route. They’re brass usually seems to be pretty decent as well. Bullets of proper size should also be decently riced through them, usually I get my .455 webley projos from them.

Rich,
I used to have a .43 Spanish RB. It is now a 45-90. I still have a bullet mold for .43 Spanish and you may have it if you wish. Pm me your address and I'll send it to you. I loaded with Black Powder only but there is loading data for SR 4759 and AA 5744. I really like 5744 in several of my cast bullet loads like my 38-55 and others. If I was doing it I would start with about 24 to 25 GRs. of 5744.

I used to have a pair of .43 Spanish RBs

Do a chamber cast and slug your barrel before you do anything. There are apparently two .43 Spanish cartridges, and there is a very similar .44-77. The .43 Spanish is supposed to use .439" bullets. The .44-77 uses bullets that are about .446". The two rifles I had were out of Argentina, and had perfect barrels, with .446" groove diameter. They appeared to have been chambered with the later of the two .43 Spanish cartridges. When I used bullets sized to fit the groove diameter, the chamber neck was too small to admit them. Black powder is supposed to cause really soft bullets to slug up to a larger diameter, but not in my experience. I never found hollow base bullets to try.

I eventually had one rebarreled in .45-70 and shot it some, then sold both about 2000.
