Recommend me a pistol bag

Howdy folks,

I need a bag that will hold six or more handguns so I don't have to lug each and every pistol in its own box when I decide to take them all to the range. Magazines are in ammo cans, and I have a backpack to hold my hearing protection, tools, bags, et al. So, the range bag just needs to be able to hold handguns. I'm not looking to spend a bunch, as this isn't really a top priority project, but more along the lines of "would be nice to have." Cheaper is better, but is not the sole determining factor. Tan or green would be best.

Go to your local Lowes or Harbor Freight and look at tool bags.

Every size, shape, and pocket arrangement can be had, and may make you re-evaluate carrying your mag stash in the ammo cans.

Good thinking.

Everywhere I shoot save one spot I can pull my truck up to within' spittin' distance of the bench/ shootin' area, so this is more about keeping the pistols contained in one package instead of having boxes spilling every which way.

I re-purpose old cordless drill boxes to carry pistols. Most of my pistol carry cases say Dewalt on them. More knarly they look, the less likely to get swiped.

Not worried about security, as I'm usually only with my brother or a buddy. In any case I'm never far from the line.

Range bag? How about a hard case

I used to use range bags but lately I went to a pelican hard case with the handgun foam inserts , they can hold a lot of handguns plus mags, many options out there. Just google pics and you can find surplus ones with extended handles and wheels just had the foam you want.

Why in the shit didn't I think of that? I should have, since I have a Pelican case for my 6.5 AR and accessories. That would be much better than a soft case, as I wouldn't have to worry about stacking stuff on top of it.

Im thinking handguns in soft cases or socks and put in any kind of sack or bag. Really fancy would be the divided ammo can type containers. I have several of the Borestore (I think) socks that close with Velcro. A fellow could put a lot of handguns in a bag and still have them reasonably protected.

One of those Cabela's-type plastic ammo cans with foam would be more than functional. Good thing I have three and can relocate the contents to one of the empty .50 cans on-hand. Thanks for getting this old mush pile of a brain of mine working, Wolf.

Bet I have over 50 plastic boxes for tools from drills to sawzalls and even circular saws. Give me internal dimensions you want and will send you one or two.

I like using computer carry bags/briefcases. Go to Goodwill & second hand stores and find them for them for $5-$10.

Plenty of storage depending on bag and you can walk with it without letting everyone know "Hey, I got handguns in my bag!"

This is just going from the truck to the shooting line. No need for concealment. I'm going with the large Cabela's ammo can, as I have a spare on hand and will just need to cut some foam to fit it.

Still, laptop cases and backpacks are nice since they are design to protect a rather expensive device that is more delicate than your average gun, ultra high end 1911s notwithstanding.

If you want go insane, band-quality musical instrument boxes.

FUn FACT: I originally read the title of this thread as Recommend me a pistol bra. It took a while for me to gather courage to open it, and then realize my lack of spelling skills got the better out of me once more.

I got one of those "FREE - whatever, in this case - PISTOL RANGE BAG!" emails that are just sucker bait. They were $9-$10 for one "shipping and handling" or two for $16 "shipping and handling". Because I like to post this type of stuff so others don't fall in to the trap of sucker bait, need to take photos and put on blog, and I need a range bag, I ordered two. As expected they were just cheap gym/duffel/etc. bags. Went to my favorite used good store and found a bunch of used ones exactly like the ones I bought (OK, different colors and had logos) for $5-$6 each used, so it was a wash, I could use a gym bag and the price new was right. As far as gym bag go, they are "OK-good", light weight material, but in no way were they "range bags". I have found "BullDog" brand range bags to be about as good as you will find at the price for "real" range bags. If you find a camera store with camera bags on sale/close out they make excellent range bags!

I just found a padded EMT case at a surplus store for $10. Navy blue, padded dividers, EMT logo on the side, lots of pockets. Will make a fantastic range bag for pistols and mags. While it does not scream gun bag if left in my locked car, I guess it would still get a tweakers attention.

I tried the tool bag trick, but the bottom line is I was trying to make a square peg into a round hole. Its hard to beat a well designed range bag that was designed for the specific purpose. I did a lot of research and then decided on the Explorer Tactical Range Bag. Been using it for two years and love everything about it.

I like the look of that, and the price. Also means I won't need to sacrifice an ammo can.
