AJ Fernandez La Grand Llave

A box pressed offering in a Maduro wrapper that really confused my palate. Some of the reviews hinted at what to expect, but detecting these nuances escaped me. My cigar for this review was a 3 month in the humidor Corona Extra.

The first thing I noticed was the Maduro wrapper had a complex fruity taste. It could have passed for any number of fruits. I felt it leaned towards a combination of blueberry and blackberry. The spicy, coffee notes weren't there for me, but the rich smoothness of a cigar in this price range was there until the end. The cigar has a 90 rating and is as good or better than 95+ cigars. Highly recommend a rest in the humidor, then enjoy with a fruity wine or brandy. Might pair nice with one of the "sweet" beers that folks enjoy now. My personal preference is Slivovica out of the freezer, neat. Find the AJ Fernandez La Grand Llave at your favorite tobacco store or at Cigars International. ~ss

Really can't go wrong with anything from AJ Fernandez, and the box press Maduros have been among my favorites. Although I am now finding more delicacy in the lighter colorado maduro.

Have you tries the san lotano? Apparently shifting from box press to ovals, as I'm not seeing them listed anymore as box press .

oh found it, it was the Gratis Toro. Hard to forget the box.

here's a review - I'm not that sophisticated. I just have smoked hundreds of brands and styles and this one stood out as exceptional.
